How to correctly load filament in SV06
    1. Raise the temperature to the corresponding printing temperature of the filament you need to use.
    2. Use pliers to cut off a section of the front end of the filament and cut at 45°.
    3. Insert it into the feed port, hold it down with your hand, and turn the wheel clockwise until the filament is observed to extrude from the nozzle and color is right, the filament is loaded well.

You only load filament into an empty extruder once, when it's new! It would've been useful to show how to change filaments, too

"Change filament" function in the menu. Easy as pie.

@@Carglouche. nah mate, I later found the handiest way: from a control interface on your computer, retract the filament 15 to 20mm (to save that bit of filament, but without it coming completely loose), then use side-cutters to cut the filament at the input hole. Extrude forward 10mm, then put your new filament into the hole. Extrude about 75-100mm while keeping a slight pressure on the filament, pushing it forward against the end of the old filament. Once it's past the gears and gripped by the extruder, you can stop pushing.
This way you don't need to make the right kind of kink in the filament to get it through the empty machine. It'll just follow the old filament. And you don't need to "sharpen" the end of the filament, just cutting it flat is best. The filament coming out of the nozzle will sharply change to the new one, instead of the gradual mixing you typically get.

Is it possible to add filament runout sensor on this sv06???

  • @NorthAmericanModeler

Same ... Brand new machine (SV06). Trying to run my first print. I insert the filament, turn the knob on the extruder per instructions, and I got about a milimeter of melted PLA out the nozzle and then the knob started "resisting". I tried to "Disable Steppers", although after clicking on it, I am not sure anything actually happened. I heard a beep but nothing else changed. Still no filament coming out and when I turn the knob the "resistance" is still there. It will finally give way, but because a doohicky on the extruder seems to snap; not snap like breaking. It looks like it's designed to do release the pressure. I just don't know what it is or why it does it. I have a feeling it's related. Not feeling the love on this machine though. Certainly not a great first impression. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did some more research and figured out how to remove the "doohickey" (turns out it was the extrusion clamp). Inside the gears I could see that my filament had not actually made it into the nozzle but was a bit of a mess in the gears. Fortunately it had not melted in the gears. I was able to snip it into pieces and pull it out and start over. So far, so good, the second time around. I need to be sure that the filament is straight when I insert it, otherwise it may not find the nozzle and just scrunch up in the gears again.
Hope this is helpful to someone!

@@NorthAmericanModeler Yep,,, Sovol could of done a lot better with there written instructions and there videos could of been a lot better with a "Tips&Tricks" for beginners so they don't make simple mistakes,,, like making sure you straighten the filament with your fingers before inserting it into the extruder otherwise it will get wrapped up in the gearbox and now you pull the Gearbox apart to fix it-.

Just got my sv06 and I’m not able to load the filament. It looks like it gets stuck somewhere. I’m really upset right now 😢

the spools might come with the filament end stuck into the spool and that part might have some fragile pieces, so you probably have to cut the end down to the first part that is not damaged by the spool ?

My advice: Do not follow these instructions. Instead use the "Change filament" function in the menu. Much easier.

You need to push the filament further. Try depressing the filament lever while pushing, if you feel resistance. It should go in. Also, try twisting the filament so the 45 degree bevel is the other way around. Once it goes deep enough, teeth will grab and it will extrude.
