Oh my, what a delight to find this! I just heard it on satellite radio and wished for another opportunity to find it again. I stayed in the car to the end to listen for the credits of the performance and lo and behold, it was this very recording. How lucky we are to enjoy Raff's work with its effervescent sparkle from the piano and those strings in super support. Thank you very much indeed for posting this lovely performance.
I heard it on the Italian radio almost 30 years ago. Daily at 06:00-07:00 (perhaps it lasted longer, I am sure it started at 06:00) there was a musical program called «Ouverture». There I also heard for the first time my favorite piano concert to date, the one composed by Anton Arensky, the «Allegro con fuoco» from Ferdinand Hiller's second piano concerto and many, many other musical gems...
Singing the spring by joining the voices of the orchestra rather lighly treated (often in the spirit of a chamber orchestra - listen at the cello solo just after the beginning - the orchestra who plays is the Kammerorchester Lausanne) and the piano, that is the charming idea of Joachim Raff, and perhps is he more moving in this little concerting piece than in his more ambitious symphonies and concertos. Here is a very fresh and light music that can only make our delight. How could we not love it?
Ah yes, the great Ponti, who, despite a most alarming wrong note, gives a far more interesting (that is to say, far less 'careful', and much more exuberant) performance of this charming piece.
@@bartjebartmans Yes, I'm well aware of that, and more power to him. But he did have all these 'obscure' Concertos in his active repertoire and could offer to play any of them in concert with any orchestra. Probably with minimal time to prepare in advance, but he had a phenomenal memory and great facility in the fingers. I worked with him several times, and he was seriously scary. Not, perhaps, the most sensitive interpreter, all the time, of what he was playing - but it is impossible to call any of his recordings or live performances dull.
Liking this salon music could also be seen as a form of snobbery....... You get the paradox? BTW It is quite beautiful and pleasant, don't get me wrong.
Are you sure the performers are correct? When I look it up on Spotify it's 14 minutes; quite fast. What sounds like the same recording is the one performed by Jost Meier, Peter Aronsky and Radio-Sinfonieorchester Basel.
I find this a very tame affair, so carefully and tentatively played as to be boring. Michael Ponti's recording puts this into another world - a real exuberant Ode to Spring, not a cautious and prosaic tiptoe. The same with this pianist's recording of Raff's Piano Concerto - it's quite dull.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I know.
❤
Così bello e così trascurato dai grandi pianisti ....e dalle grandi orchestre.

A gorgeous melodic jewel.
This is lovely music - so melodic and sweeping!
Subtle & truly sublime.
In short enchanting.
Sublime concerto
Another great one! Ich danke!
The sections are:
I. Larghetto
II. Presto
Beautiful!
Il faut absolument réhabiliter RAFF !!!

I possess this romantic concert piece on VOX-cd with Michael Ponti.

@@robingordon-powell6736 Ponti practically sight read these pieces as there was not much money and time to spend on meticulous recording.

The only thing standing between this music and international fame is the snobbery in the world of classical music.
