Rescued Octopus came back to thank us!

  • We spent our Holidays at the red sea. While walking along a lonely beach we saw a stranded Octopus in the sand. We were not sure if he is already dead. So we pushed him back into the water. He needed some minutes to recover, then he swam away.
    Next day we went to the same beach for a walk. While walking along the beach we saw a shadow in the water coming very quickly to us. It was the Octopus we rescued the day before, he recognized us! He followed us for a long time while we walked along the beach, all the time trying to touch our feet.
    We are sure that this Octopus came back to thank us for saving his life. It's amazing how intelligent animals are.

    I definetly believe you. Being from a small island myself, I have had some encounters with octopuses in the sea. I remember once, when I was about 12, that a very friendly octopus just came to me and "hugged" me. We were playing for hours, she would follow me, and when I came out of the sea she also came ashore, and stayed there for a while, as if saying goodbye. One of the most awesome experiences in my life.

      I had a so-called "friend" cut all ties because I casually pointed out that humans evolved the big brain because of eating meat. Veganism should be named a religion because vegans believe in a big pile of bullshit too.
      The biggest crack-up of all time was on an episode of survivor when someone suggested they kill and eat one of the chickens provided, to which the loud-mouthed vegan ordered everyone to leave the chicken alone because it had a right to live too. Three days later - of course - she devoured that chicken hungrily just like everyone else.
      Hunger destroys fads and hypocrites, brings truth.

    • @donbongonyah2747
      @donbongonyah2747 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jess those who run to the chicken because of hunger if vegan are scared of dying. Some of us are not afraid dying, no point we all have to go sometime. I see people who eat meat with all types of conditions, constantly in and out of hospital whereas I live among vegans who are 90+ and still kicking it with high levels of energy. I as a vegan has not been in any hospital with any conditions for 20+ years. In that amount of time I'm sure you have no idea of the number of times you've been in and out of it. You probably got mad cow disease already and don't even know it

    Octopuses have strong visual memories. They distinctly recognize individual people even when they are dressed the same ass others. They also are highly intelligent. This octopus may have "trolled" the beach wondering if the people who saved it "lived on it" in the same way we look for where they live in the ocean. If it thought that (and why not) it might return to see if the people were there. And they were.
    Being as intelligent as they are, why would they not express feelings and gratitude. We see other animals remember and respond to people for whom they have had affection. It is speculated octopuses are at least as inteligent as dogs.
    This was a wonderful video,.

    • @saltclaws
      @saltclaws 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      We would go with "octopuses," a perfectly legitimate English plural, and the oldest attested to. "Octopi" is also an acceptable choice, and one in wide use, but you run the risk of being informed that it's incorrect. Well-meaning people may tell you that -i is Latin plural, but "octopus" comes from the Greek. While this is true, the word in fact went from Greek to Latin, and only then to English. While the plural is irregular, it's hardly out of bounds. Those who don't like "octopi" sometimes suggest that the correct term is "octopodes." Nobody ever uses "octopodes" outside of arguments about the plural of "octopus." Nor should you. In short, stick with "octopuses" unless you really prefer the sound of "octopi."www.infoplease.com/askeds/plural-octopus
      Though octopodes isn't wrong if you're referring to the greek plural form of octopus.

    Helena, Back in the mid 19th century my Dad took the family to a place in California called Under Sea World. There was an open tank holding some sea creatures and one of them was an Octopus. My Dad was holding me in his arms and had his arms and my feet resting on the edge of the tank. As we are looking at the Octopus it decides to come up and imitate my Dad, by also giving me a hug. My Dad gently removed his arms from around me, as I smiled and my Dad told me that it was giving me a hug. I have loved those wonderful creatures every since then. : ) Thank you for posting this, Helena, and thanks to the conscious and caring people that saved it's life. As I understand it, this particular kind of Octopus live a long time in comparison to others of their species.

      They are smart and beautiful but they are definitely not very loving, their brains don't have a social cortex but their brains are incredibly capable at cognitive tasks in fact they often score higher on modified cognitive tests than humans but they use it to coexist with the environment as opposed to changing it like we do. This octopus was hunting these people after they ruined it's hunt the previous day which is hilarious and awesome but definitely not loving if you ask me. lol They're just lucky they didn't let it touch them too much because it would have bitten the shit out of them with a rather nasty beak, or worse, that's how this species hunts and they can tend to be quite conniving and aggressive.

      Octopus don't live long; depending on the species, the lifespan can range from 6 months to 2. The Giant Pacific octopus may live up to 5 yrs but there's no conclusive evidence. Males die a few weeks after mating for the first time and females will lay eggs, protect them for around 5 months until they hatch and then dies very soon after.

      Of course they have notion of time. through operant conditioning you can reinforce the behaviors in almost all animals. The future behavior of an animal can be observed whenever this behavior is preceded by an antecedent stimulus. To deepen the subject, you can check the operant conditioning introduced by B. F. Skinner.

      Google octopuses escaping jars, lanterns etc.; those experiments were devised after the biologists in a lab installed a camera to see why the fish in their tanks dissapeared overnight, and filmed the octopus in another tank unlock the separating hatches, getting into the other tanks to feast, then going back to its tank and locking all the hatches behind it. And the camouflage of octopuses is consciously made, they can change colors to blend in the environment or disguise themselves as, for instance, coconuts fallen on the ocean floor.

    i saved an octopus from 2 seagulls and helped it to deeper water and waving my hat at the gulls - as i walked back to the beach it followed me i was over come by a feeling to touch it - put my hand in the water it gently unfolded a arm and touched my little finger - i think they are telepathic cause i was speaking to it in my mind ? go have a octopus experiance and see !

    Octopus people do that, this is a very common situation. I have an octopus friend, we still see each other on national holidays. He got kids, a pet human and everything, but still lives with his parents which is a real frustrating situation. Next year I will buy him a shell and record their happiness on the camera! I can imagine how they would be so happy for such a small thing :") stay tuned folks :")

      Mas Medi Homo sapeiens are and always have been omnivores, our ancestors were hunter gatherers for hundreds of thousands of years. Evidence for this is that we have eyes facing forwards, indicating that we are a predator species. Our digestive system and body is not optimized for getting nutrients from plant based foods, fruit and some fungi are the exception. In fact the vast majority of plant based foods we enjoy today are only recently available as they were genetically engineered over thousands of years. Don't believe me, look up brassica oleracea. Furthermore, there are 6 eccental nutrients that only exist/ are bioavailable for humans that you can't get from plants. Not to mention that getting all of your energy from carbohydrates as opposed to fats and proteins cause health problems. I think that the only way to stop anmial suffering from human consumption is lab grown meats. They are theoretically much more efficient to produce and can be tailor made to maximize taste, texture, and Healthynes. I think future humans will look at how we produce meat and think of how barbaric it was, much like how we view the concept of slavery today.

    • @HupfDole87
      @HupfDole87 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I understood that. But it is rather stupid and rude to write that THEY gave it the death sentence cause they fuckin saved its live. They did sth good. Saying that they are responsible for its future death is really unpleasant. what should they have done? rescue it and then beat it with a stick?
      With his logic you condemn every single creature on this planet to which you are nice to. Its like saying that you gave a stranger a death sentence when you are nice to him or her, cause he or she could get abducted and killed by another stranger. Genuine kindness shouldn be thanked with "you gave him, her, it a death sentence".
      Another point he missed is that a possible hunter could consider not hunting that particular octopus, cause of its genuine and rare behaviour.
