  • WOW, what a difference! Unfortunately I had places to be and things to do and did not have time to show the complete process. It is however, not rocket science. Don't forget the 2 new crush washers required per pump like I did! They do not come with the pumps.

    Since making this video, both new genuine Bosch pumps failed by way of gushing fuel out of the crimped end of the housing (o ring seal failure) both failed within 1 week of each other. They have been replaced again with genuine Bosch at the 6 years 5000KM mark. Not impressed.

      I think I read that before I paid 180€ each for Pierburg pumps. 2+ times the price of the Bosch pumps. The 2 Bosch pumps I have in stock are made in the Czech Republic. Where were yours made? Do you think you (and me??) were victim of bogus parts?

    My 1993 W124 220E Suffered from a pump failure without any warning when i turned the key to start it, i thought at first that the modules had failed so changed them but still nothing, no priming noise at all, luckily i was in my drive so blessings counted there, this video helped a lot thank you, although my 220E has only a single pump i replaced it with a 6 bar pump and have not had any issues with it, once under the car it is a very simple job to do, thank you again for the video.

      I have the same vehicle as yours W124.022 and mine also failed, there were no symptoms as you said but mine fried at me while i was driving, thankfully i managed to steer it and park it somewhere safe but it’s far away from my home, do i need jack stands for the job? because I’m not carrying any, can I perform the job with the car jack only?

      This is true only of the filter is past it's service life. There's no need to change it if it's not close to the end of it's service life. Or if you find low fuel pressure then it should be checked and serviced if needed.

    How hot does it get where you live? New pumps still give noise after some time at ambient around 40C. But when it gets to +45C the noise doesn't get much higher. They never failed on me and I only get fed up (or worried) when the noise increases at like 80k km and they sound similar to the aux fans on high (but from the back) inside the cabin. They are South African Bosch units.

    I've noticed my idle speed is a bit lower since doing this and there is occasional hesitation off idle like there is a huge vacuum leak - i suspect before I was running with a failed secondary pump and calibrated everything, including the new airflow meter at the time to the wrong low fuel pressure. I will check this out at a later date.

    I have a 260e (300e in the US) My car will stall when it revs up too high (around 4-5k) then will completely die when i stop. When I go to start it again sometimes it just cranks over and wont start. If I leave the car for a few hours it will start up and run fine until it stalls and died again. Could it be my fuel pump? I have noticed it is very loud and and when the car stops and wont start again, the fuel pump will whine really loud when I prime the car.

      Finn sam sounds like you are on the right track. Make sure to change the filter at the same time and if feeling adventurous I would change the tank screen filter too. There is also another screen on one of the fuel distributor fuel connections which wouldn’t hurt to change too. Its in another of my videos “always forgotten filter” or something like that. Currently away so cant see it myself.

    was it only because it was noisy that you replaced the pump? was any other signs which led you to replace the other items?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      correct. I cant remember what you said your symptoms were but a guy I know in perth with a 300TE wagon was battling with an issue where by his car would randomly stall and immediately restart when slowing down to go around a round about or turn a corner etc. He bypassed the fuel pump relay as a trial and made sure that the pumps were not the issue - the fault continued to occur at random as before. Turns out for him, of all things it was the idle air valve being slow to react. He swapped one off another 300E parts car and the issue is totally resolved. I never would of thought of this, but I guess its quite logical.

      firstly you need to check the condition of the fuel tank before fitting any new parts and have it cleaned or replaced. These things are rusting very badly now. The accumulator can be tested, but i just replace them on principle if original as probably wont last long anyway.
