I feel like it’s important to know that by the time the vow renewal episode aired, Jon and Kate had already separated but weren’t allowed to discuss it
Genuine question: if they were already separated, why would she tell the kid in that beginning scene that ‘mommy and daddy will stay together forever… forever.. whatever happens’?
@Dee912 they were together when they filmed it, but due to the time lag between when episodes were filmed and actually aired, by the time the public saw the vow renewal the couple was already privately separated
@@amandajenkins2267 my dead brain read your original comment as if they were separated behind the scenes already when filming that😂 and I read something similar from another comment so I was sooo confused hahahaha. But thanks!

I never noticed this so much until you said it. Maddy really just needed extra attention and wasn’t getting all her needs met. You can see her demeanor completely change when it’s one-on-one with her and Kate and she acts like a different child omg. She just needed time with her mom without 7 other kids taking the attention away.
I can relate as a mother. I have 3 kids close in age and have to make a point of one on one time with my oldest. She just needs that reminder that mommy loves her so much as an individual. If I slip up for several days I absolutely notice it in her personality shifts. 😢
Collin was the same way. Like I remember the episode when Kate had to take Collin and Hannah to the eye doctor well Collin was much more vocal and active and Kate said she was surprised. But it’s because he didn’t have to compete for attention.
I love when people say that you can't have opinions on child-rearing because you're not a parent. Sure you haven't been a parent, but you have been a child. Not saying that makes someone an expert or anything, but it is experience. Dani you, like everyone else whose ever been a child, have every right to comment on poor parenting and make suggestions for improvement.
I feel the same way when people tell me online that "tell me you don't have kids". Just because I don't have kids, it doesn't mean that I'll be a perfect parent but I will be the parent I needed as well as the parent my kids need. I will make them eat their food but not clean their plate, I will NEVER spank or hit my kid, no matter what they do. People who hit their kids to teach them how to behave are losers and really shouldn't have had children in the first place. I also will never force my children to eat their dinner and if they don't eat their dinner, they're allowed dessert, it doesn't matter what day it is but especially if it's their birthday. They're allowed dessert if they want. Also, they're allowed to not like what I put in front of them but I'm not just going to make several separate meals just because they don't like baked fish. Too bad, baked fish is what's for dinner, no exceptions. I'm not making frozen fish sticks just because my kids won't even try a bite of a baked fish. I'm not raising spoiled brats who always get their way just because they want something different for dinner or whatever else. I will never be rich so, what's for dinner is what's for dinner. If they don't want to eat it, sorry. I'm not a short-order cook and I will never make a separate meal. The only exception is if they had allergies or special-needs but I doubt I'll ever have a special-needs kid unless I adopt them but I'd never just accept that. It's why I hate the show Table for 12 because Eric, the dad literally makes his kids fish sticks because he's afraid his kids won't like the baked fish he's making for his wife for her birthday. If you're afraid your kids won't eat the fish, have them try it first and see. Kids can surprise you but instead, he makes the baked fish for his wife and the fish sticks for the kids, which is gross. Fish sticks aren't healthy and it's not good to constantly feed your kids fried foods. It's no wonder as the kids got older, even as young adults now that all of them are fat.
Just want to say the way you have done this series has been amazing. This show has been one of my interests for years! I started collecting the dvd’s when I was little and would watch it so much growing up. @ Oh yeah true, not just their TV show, but their TH-cam channel too. It all just seems to exploitative, no matter the content. I stopped following them years ago.
Imagine being one of the kids and having your parents fly the entire family across the country to renew their vows, saying again and again that they're going to be together forever, only for them to tell you a year later that they're getting divorced. That had to be really hurtful and confusing.
apparently, they already knew at the time that they were getting separated, but couldn’t publicly discuss it. When you consider the fact that they always talk about how they would only do the show as long as the kids best interest was a priority, it’s so ridiculous that they put them through that knowing they were about to split up just for a show.
I think I find these videos so entertaining because I remember watching these with fascination as a little kid, and now I can see them with a healthy adult perspective
I'm not a parent, but I'm an adult/former teacher and I know that constantly isolating a kid when they have emotions is not a good approach. ALSO, Mady was one of 8 kids all constantly needing their parents' attention, I'm not surprised she had outbursts. I also have a working theory that celebrity couples should never do vow renewals because they always end up divorced later.
Mady grew up to ostracize Collin... the impact of this type of treatment definitely is profound. I'm not a parent, but surely they could have helped her express herself in better ways.
4:35 ik couples that play fight like that so nice to see how they probably really loved each other at some point but lack of communication and growth just tore them apart
Love your Jon and Kate vids and your analyses! I think about Mady and unruly kids (and also kids who were on Supernanny) who had the worst behavior, such as the tantrums and whining, and being disrespectful. Those behaviors are going to haunt them for the rest of their lives as adults. There are times I regret how much I used to act as a kid myself. It sucks. They're going to regret it. I know Mady is still not the best person, but I truly hope she change their ways, humbles herself, apologize to her siblings (esp. Collin). Her younger siblings are not her enemies. It won't be much, apologies don't fix everything, but it will speak volumes.
She told their kids they're renewing their vows because they were going to be "together forever and ever," KNOWING THAT THEY WERE SEPARATING? Those poor children must have been so confused
Kate always had a bit of resentment for Mady in my opinion. Kate wanted all her kids calm and collected at all times, and Mady seemed to be a bit more hyperactive than even the little kids at the time and Kate was always making little snippy comments to Mady. I’m honestly surprised Mady didn’t get treated worse than she did

you've mentioned it before but the weird way they separate their kids based on gender drive me insane. Men have been dancing hula for generations that would have been a good experience for the boys too.
I gotta say, I think making Mady stay back was probably a good move. She had a habit of ruining things for her siblings. However, effective communication should've been the goal. As in, "if you won't communicate your needs to me without hurting me and the others around you, then you'll have to stay behind." Allowing her to throw tantrums isn't okay, and neither is punishment without discussing options.
As someone with mental health issues and especially as a child I see similar things in her as I do in myself I'm not judging her my heart reaches out to her Locking her away teaching her that she's wrong doesn't help. They need to give her extra love and a different way to navigate parenting. I don't know how that would look but I just know that I needed patience and support. I hope she sees a therapist and learns how to deal with those emotions that are so strong you don't know what to do. And again, my heart reaches out to her NOT judging
