Love the design! Can I ask why you stain it mahogany first before painting?
Thanks, good question! The stain is applied and once paint is applied over the stain, the idea is to sand off some of this white to reveal the stained wood and raw wood beneath to give it that aged distressed look. To be honest I only did minor amounts of distressing so you see very little of the darker stain revealed. I just wing it when it comes to distressing and the final appearance.
In the end the stain, gives you more options in the end I guess.
@@DIYFotoWorks I guess you could just stain the areas - border trim - that you plan to distress ?
Absolutely, if you plan ahead where you want to sand off the painted areas. Saves stain as well. You’re really just trying to give it the look of years of layers of old paint and stain. I did very little distressing in the end, it’s really personal choice.
