Thanks for the detailed explanation regarding the differences compared to the previous model. After a bit of reading and watching your helpful video, my existing DR900S-2CH with Power Magic Pro and separate MiFi setup, and the fact that I'm in the UK (with cloudy weather), is actually better than upgrading to this new X model. Heating issue is not really a problem for me since I live in the UK. I have the flexibility to switch off parking mode with just a flick of a switch on my PMP. My MiFi provides data for my DR900S-2CH as well as my Android Head Unit, plus data for the rest of my family members in the car if needed. Also, depending on which area I park, I do remove my dashcam quite regularly to avoid theft, so removing two cable connections is better than removing three. I am a bit disappointed that Blackvue doesn't allow multiple devices to connect to the CM100 LTE module for data. A decent MiFi costs a lot less than CM100LTE and can serve many devices. So absolutely agree that the DR900X-2CH doesn't really provide much benefits for those who are already using DR900S-2CH with a similar setup to mine.
My dr900s failed so many times that I gave up on it. Really disappointed in its extreme heat performance. Had to pay for 2 or 3 replacements. I live in s Texas.
Steve Y I know exactly what you mean. I live close to you. I bought mine from Walmart and have not had any issues. It has every feature this advertised model except for the remote bits. It’s a YADA and it’s not near as expensive and no heat issues.
I also noticed on the 900s some video footage missing. Not sure if card needs to be formatted once a month or so to avoid this. I waited 2 months or so before I formatted the card again.
Thanks for the thorough explanation of the benefits and detriments of this "upgrade." I have a DR900S 2CH I bought a while ago and haven't gotten around to installing, but I'm glad I didn't do so and attempt to upgrade to the DR900X 2CH and have to change cabling due to the lack of backwards compatibility. Looks is the DR900s will be going in my lightest-colored car and I'll have to choose something for my two black cars. FWIW, I'm in Alpharetta, just north of where you were recently in Roswell, so you know the heat issues are a concern for me.
I recently just got two Viofo A119 V3 for front and back. It has been amazing so far for the price and quality. Two Viofo A119 V3 with two CPL lenses and two micro SD cards together costs less than one Dr900X. Thank you Vortex!
haha yeah the Viofo's are kind of amazing for the bang for the buck. They may not have all the fancy features of a Blackvue or Thinkware, but if you don't need the cloud functionality, they're solid dashcams.
@@VortexRadar I agree. Two days ago, I had to send my V3's footage to the King County sheriff's department because I was a witness of a crash and the officer that called me back after I sent the footage said "Dam, that's a high resolution camera!" BTW, I think we both live in Washington.
Great video!! Would love to see a video discussing the best overall portable/convenient dashcams for use in multiple personal vehicles, rental cars, etc.
Wow that was a very detail description of the DR900X and this is definitely something I'll look into and will consider purchasing. Too many bumps and snips when my car is parked and no proof as to who did it. Thanks!
Great point, ONLY reason why I'm also unable to upgrade is due to re-running the power cable that I had professionally installed with my DR900S. It Will be a huge hassle for me to rerun it; otherwise, I would've jumped on this even though upgrades are not as significant.
While on the market, opted for the 900x for the LTE expandability, def built in power management, and hoping for the better heat tolerance for here in Texas. I can only hope....
You are the best man. Such great review and analysis. You earned a sub my friend. Ty for making my decision much easier. Going with the 900x for my new suv!
I wish i saw this before i tried to upgrade my 900S 2CH with a 900X 1CH.. bummer.. but fantastic video.. probably the best, most informative video i've seen.. Thanks!
Fantastic video, Excellent review. i wonder who at blackvue thought it would make sense to not have the same wire to allow a quick swab, that's how they loose profit.
I'd like to know with all these vent holes, isn't that giving access for dust to collect inside the camera unit. If the camera was having heat problems and this appears to have solved that then has it in turn caused another problem and the collection of dust from an existing heat source isn't a good idea. It will require cleaning periodically clearly so how?
The fact that companies in 2020 are releasing new devices that are not type c power when we have thunderbolt is kind of ridiculous and unexcusable. To my knowledge it's been shown that it cost a whopping $0.59 to put in a type c port. This could have easily solved the problem of a new power cable.
Hi thank you for your video, very interesting and technical congratulations, I can tell you something based on the overheating of the DashCam, my 900s burned out after the update, first it disconnected when it reached the threshold, then not anymore, living in Italy this year they reached very high temperatures and unfortunately mine is dead, I will have to buy it new because the warranty is over, I switch to 900x, be careful to stay with the old update 1.012 do not switch to 1.013 for 900s Greetings
I have my DR750S and whenever I park, I have to try to find a tree to cover my car because of the overheating issues that occurs in Florida. I wish they would have upgraded the sensors but I think I'm still going to wait.
I wish I would have known the following before I purchased this unit. "For DR750X, DR900X: The SD card can only be formatted if the firmware in the SD card is different from the camera model. Press the Wi- Fi button for five seconds until the camera gives out a voice prompt. Press the same button again for five seconds and the camera will format the SD card." You have to remove the sd card every time you want to format it. A real deal breaker.
Have you tried a 512 GB memory sd card on some of those dashcams? I remember an older dashcam it was saying "supporting up to 32 gb" but it worked with 62 gb as well. I am just wondering, because - you know - 4K consumes like 4 times more data storage than FHD do and I personally appreciate more than 10 hours of dual-channel recording instead of changing the SD card every single drive.
I'm torn between this and the new DR750-2CH LTE. I heard the night vision is better with the 750 and since I do a lot of night driving this would be a big factor.
Hey - great video. Bought a 900x this past week and really appreciate the details. (now I'm wrestling to connect it to the car's built in wifi hotspot tho... :)
This is an excellent review, I have consistent connection issues with my Cloud connectivity on my 900S-2CH. I have dedicated wifi in my vehicle (Verizon Orbic) that the dashcam just keeps disconnecting from so I was looking to upgrade for the 900X for the built in LTE but seeing that I can't even use the same wiring is extremely disheartening, like why the hell would they change the adapter??? I assume to prevent to interchanging parts and forcing you to purchase all new equipment but was just a bad idea. Now I'm looking at changing dashcams all together seeing that I can get much better video quality elsewhere
Absolutely great video, I have a question do you think blackvue will have a connection to am external hard drive like a 2 TB instead of dealing with the card
The video quality unfortunately is not as good as other 4K dashcams (like you mentioned). It was a missed opportunity to bring it at least at the same level or better against their competitors. I’ve gone from BV900S to iroad x10. Nevertheless appreciate your review and thoughts on this camera!
Does anyone know if hard wiring really does damage your car battery? I don't like the idea of buying an external battery but at the same time I'm worried if the parking mode really does damage car battery overtime
Very nice video. If you could explain then that would be great. I have 900x2ch with Neon battery. Now if I turn off the Barrett voltage cutoff, dashcam does it get connected incase car ignition is off so regardless of external Neon battery, I have to keep turn of the the voltage cutoff
I have the blackvue q800 pro in my cart ready to buy. Still a good camera? Should I get something else that isn't this one? This one is a little to pricey
I love your videos. I ordered a 2022 Porsche Boxster for ETA 11/5/21. I think the Blackview DR900X is the way to go. Are you going to make any power connection videos so that I can get an idea of the correct fuse taps to use for my car. I live in Atlanta, GA and would like to have a professional install. Do you have any recommendation for an installer here or in the southern region? Thanks again, and I am subscribed to your channel.
they have to work 1st on there very bad video quality compare to other brand. what we want from a dashcam is the quality of the video to identify the other cars and there plates ! what is the sense to have an crazy expensive camera when we cant identify the plate of the car with who we get trouble ? :/
I get that the front facing dash cam might be more important than the rear facing one, but in a 2 channel setup, how can you sell a 4k camera for the front and a 1080p camera for the rear? I would want both cameras to be 4k. And a question about the taxi / ride sharing ir cameras..... Why don't they just sell a 4k, 4 channel system?
Yeah that’s be cool, but I wonder if they have bandwidth limits. You can buy two separate 4K dashcams to run front and rear. That’s how I’m setting it up. :)
Just finished installing my BlackVue DR900X-2CH & BlackVue B-124X (HARDWIRE). After a few hours of messing around with the settings and fine tuning it. I went to reach for the dashcam and it was pretty warm almost to hot to the touch. The battery temp was around 31°C. When you finished all your tests and reviews on the camera, did you get the same experience with the body temp of the DR900x?
Wish they had included built-in LTE with this. Don’t like that I have to make a choice between their dash cam with the separate LTE module and ignition based power or built-in LTE and no ignition based power.
@3:55 Overheating? Stated temperature range high end of 80 Celsius but on BlackVue's site it states 70 Celsius for the 900X only the 750X Plus has 80 Celsius
Vortex Radar Doesnt hurt to have a view open up the cable and verify that theres only 2 cables then electrical tape it back up. Unless theres more insulation then just open that up too. It should be an easy discovery soon
My DR900S died yesterday, what dash cam should I get? $400+ on a dash cam is a little steep for me right now, but I really want a 4k front camera with a 1080p rear camera.
So once I buy all the parts, it’s about $2000?! But really, why doesn’t someone just make a total package, especially at this price point, that’s just that…a TOTAL package? I have a cheap Wheel Witness and I like it but I wanted front and rear, installed, with constant monitoring, phone notifications (Verizon), but no separate service. Does that exist or what do you recommend? Thanks
I'm actually getting an Audi Q5 and wanted to get front and rear dashcams but after seeing your 4ch set up, I'm thinking of doing the same. It's good to know it's a bit harder to wire everything in the Audi and its better for a professional to do it. Do you remember how much it cost to have a professional route all of your cables?
I just installed a 900X in my truck. This is my second BlackVue. Like the first, I have spent hours and hours on the phone with BlackVue trying to get the thing up and running. I'm not a techie, so the skimpy BlackVue instructions that are included with the cameras were essentially useless. I had a bad 32G SD card as well as a bad SIM card for the Ext. Connectivity Module. I'm 10 days into the install and still can't get the remote capability working. Back with tech support today.
Is the LTE module only an aerial LTE or also a hotspot? In this latter case, does it transmit a Wi-Fi signal on a frequency of 2,4 GHz or 5 GHz? Does it connect the dashcam to the Cloud automatically each time that empty battery B-124X is charged again? Would it be more efficient this module rather than a car hotspot? For a four-channel system, I should use two modules CM100 LTE. Does it make sense? Could a router USB 150 MBps 4G LTE Wingle a good alternative?
I was very surprised to see the quality being the worst in comparison. While I realize that picture is utmost important, I still can't get over the (to me) poor looks of the competition. BlackVue really has such a nice design. Given it is for a nice car, that can be important too.
It can be tucked away somewhere. It's got a cell antenna, not a GPS antenna, so I don't think it needs line of sight to the sky or anything. You can realistically just tuck it wherever is convenient.
After 5 yearsDR750 DX dual stopped recording without any warning. Every time you switch it on it always say that is recording without actually any kind of record.
I seriously can't decide between the Thinkware U1000 or the Blackvue Dr900x . What makes me lean towards the Thinkware includes the energy saving parking mode, the 2k rear cam, night time recording. What makes me lean towards the Blackvue includes the motion detection notification, the ability to rotate the front cam towards the canin, and the organization/display of videos recorded on the Blackvue app. I really don't know what to pick.
Yeah realistically I think for most people I'd recommend the U1000 for the improved video quality and reliability. geni.us/ThinkwareU1000-2CH If you're super into the cloud, go for the Blackvue. geni.us/DR900X-2CH
@@VortexRadar Oh my gosh, thank you so much for the reply. I'll have to review why the Blackvue app and cloud support is so great. Both seem to provide impact notifications, video that automatically uploaded to the cloud for strong impact, and live remote viewing. But I don't exactly see how the two brands differ when it comes to the cloud features, but for subscription plan that Blackvue offers. I realllllly wish X series did more on the specifications side of things to improve the quality their camera then I think the choice would have been super easy for me at least.
I have the New DR900X...It plays back as a fisheye lens curved up at the sides.. Is it the camera or my phone settings (Samsung note 20s ulta) ? Thanks
Hello, I purchased the cellink power cable you mentioned in the video for my DR900X that I have hardwired to the B124X. Can you explain how I’m supposed to hook them up together, please.
I have a question hope someone can assist: I have: A) The DR-900S 2 channels B) The B124-X battery C) The car: Is new Ford Explorer ST 2021 The problem: The Hardwire installation between the fuse box and the B124 X (done by professional) is not working so good charging bases 9 Amp is not stable. So I am using the cigarette cable 5 Amp. But and I want to fix the 9 Amp option The Q: if I will buy the Cellink Replacement Power Cable, to connect between the fuse box and the B124X will it work properly with DR-900S 2 channels ? Thank you all
Would it be possible to make up a car hotspot with a Mi-Fi (with its internal battery) always powered by the dashcam battery? Or, could it get damaged?
Thanks for a detailed review video. DR900S does overheat even in Seattle area if the car is parked outside on a sunny day in the summer. So I did consider upgrading but decided not to because of the power cable. What company do/did you go to for installing the wiring? I may go to a professional when I do upgrade next time.
Yeah the power cable thing sucks. I get why they had to do it, but it's a shame for Blackvue because it means that if you're going to run all new wiring anyway, it's much easier now to just switch dashcams altogether and not stay with Blackvue. As for installing, I used Musicar Northwest down in Portland since I was doing a ton of custom work, but there's a bunch of great installers in the area, though I haven't used them myself.
So I’m currently using the 900s 2chaneel and switching to the 900x. Only switching because the rear cam is having connection issue and warranty is switching it out. My 900 is connected using the BlackVue power magic easy. Can I still use this? And if not, are my only options the hardwire kit and cigarette adapter that it comes with it? Thank you
Im starting to think that low or no cel signal is a deal breaker for this. Many places I travel have no signal. Does someone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
I've only got the 900s but I found the capture of number plates on a moving car is pretty useless. 30fps is too slow. I'm going to experiment using 1080p @ 60fps and see if it is actually better than 4k @ 30fps.
I have this camera and I’ve just realised they have took away the formatting button on the side . Why would they remove a simple function like formatting!! This is more like a downgrade then a upgrade which I find totally ridiculous!!!! This makes me mad 😡!
The wires are different. The old cable only had two wires inside (power and ground). The new one has three (full time power, ignition triggered power, and ground). That's why you can't just plug in an adapter unfortunately.

No bump in video quality? well then I'll have to wait I guess...
Yeah... maybe for the next gen one? Looks like this was more of a refinement of the original, not a big upgrade from it.
They're focusing more on features than quality.
Sorry to hear that. You can also post here to get tech support: dashcamtalk.com/forum/categories/blackvue.363/
Blackboxmycar did do a heat test on it and it shut off before the claimed max temperature.
Oh yikes! I’ll take a look at that vid. Thanks for letting me know! I haven’t watched that yet.
@@VortexRadar It still did well but just not that top temp.
amill1563 they did that for the 900s. Not the x.
The only thing I see window mount cameras in cars in my opinion they can't see as well at night like in the daytime 🧐
Where does the CM100 LTE module need to be sited/installed? Can it be hidden away or does it need to be near the front screen? Tks
It can be tucked away somewhere. It's got a cell antenna, not a GPS antenna, so I don't think it needs line of sight to the sky or anything. You can realistically just tuck it wherever is convenient.
Great reviews I have the 900s which I bought base on your review
MIND GOES BOOM ! INFO OVERLOAD!!! BRO..you going through your dash cam-munition in machine gun speed..kek Thanks!
After 5 yearsDR750 DX dual stopped recording without any warning. Every time you switch it on it always say that is recording without actually any kind of record.
Can i use powerbank,(12V socket)for this dash cam.i only need for park mode.thanks
Awesome to see this, I was about to make the pre-order tonight. Does it fit in your aluminum mount you recommend in other videos?
haha good timing! It does and I also show it towards the end of this video. :)
How do you think about the mirror dash cam, such like VanTop H612T 4K dash cam?
Hello.can i use 12v socket (powerbank i will use)for this dash cam, only for parking mode.
How would you view your footage if you don't choose the lte connectivity option?
Great Vid thanks for an honest review
I have the New DR900X...It plays back as a fisheye lens curved up at the sides.. Is it the camera or my phone settings (Samsung note 20s ulta) ? Thanks
Hello, I purchased the cellink power cable you mentioned in the video for my DR900X that I have hardwired to the B124X. Can you explain how I’m supposed to hook them up together, please.
I have a question hope someone can assist:
I have:
A) The DR-900S 2 channels
B) The B124-X battery
C) The car: Is new Ford Explorer ST 2021
The problem: The Hardwire installation between the fuse box and the B124 X (done by professional) is not working so good charging bases 9 Amp is not stable. So I am using the cigarette cable 5 Amp. But and I want to fix the 9 Amp option
The Q: if I will buy the Cellink Replacement Power Cable, to connect between the fuse box and the B124X will it work properly with DR-900S 2 channels ?
Thank you all
Would it be possible to make up a car hotspot with a Mi-Fi (with its internal battery) always powered by the dashcam battery? Or, could it get damaged?
excellent video, covers everything.
Does any of your dash cameras have ADAS? I'm in a market for such thing
Some do like the Thinkwares, but I haven't been a fan of those features. Lots of false alerts, but good to see them working on it.
All dash cams that use built-in power cut off usually need a 3 pole wire plug, hence why it’s not backwards compatible
Yeah and you can see that with the two sections on the outer part of the newer connector instead of just one.
When are you getting that USB-C cable installed? :)
Another excellent review.
I would have expected USB C to be the standard in the main unit of these devices since many users prefer to hardwire them
You know it’s funny, I don’t know if any dashcams that have switched to USB C yet. Hopefully soon in upcoming generations.
Thank you
You can use the PMP, yeah. You’ll just need to run a new power cable from the PMP to the DR900X.
@@VortexRadar so what’s the easiest way to hookup with parking.. seems like i should just hardwire it?
How come on Blackvue website it is still listed as -20 to 70 degree c?
Im starting to think that low or no cel signal is a deal breaker for this. Many places I travel have no signal. Does someone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
You mentioned that the max temp on this dash cam is 176, but on the website, it states 167 F.
It may have been a typo in my notes and so a mistake on my part.
I've only got the 900s but I found the capture of number plates on a moving car is pretty useless. 30fps is too slow. I'm going to experiment using 1080p @ 60fps and see if it is actually better than 4k @ 30fps.
Hi, why haven't you received the new blackvue battery due out in December to do a comparison with the Celllink 9?
They haven’t reached out to me about it. I’m testing the new BlackboxMyCar battery right now and that’s pretty great so far.
Please keep the good work up.
what are these cameras like at night time while parked?
For someone that has a Dodge Charger V8 Scat Pack/Hell Cat that get's frequently stolen. Do you recommended this? or Thinkware U1000?
Yikes! It sounds like the cloud features and remote tracking would be most vital for you. In that case, I’d pick up a Blackvue over a Thinkware.
I have this camera and I’ve just realised they have took away the formatting button on the side . Why would they remove a simple function like formatting!! This is more like a downgrade then a upgrade which I find totally ridiculous!!!! This makes me mad 😡!
Yeah I didn't hear him say anything about having to remove the sd card to format it once a month. That is a real deal breaker.
If the wires are different just get an adaptor convertor and you don’t need to do rewiring of the whole car
The wires are different. The old cable only had two wires inside (power and ground). The new one has three (full time power, ignition triggered power, and ground). That's why you can't just plug in an adapter unfortunately.
Good advise…… great video
