White amarok spotted at 0:10 middle lane, my goal is to find amaroks in ya vids I'm a car enthusiast/expert (BTW Congrats on 3k subs bro keep this fine content going)
I was the engineer who designed and built the station announcement system in around 1994. At the same time a technician got his mate at sonshine fm to record the train announcements with a male voice. Over time my female voice model (Hi Cindy!) became prevalent. The latest train male voice is completely new and likely an AI voice.
Is that female voice you talk about the old one heard in this video (th-cam.com/video/bIAwecM08lc/w-d-xo.html)? I know the name of the modern announcer is Miranda Miller. Yeah it's cool the new male announcements too and really good if it is really AI.
@@TransportofPerth The train voice sounds a bit more Australian than Cindy. The current female station voice is closer to the original with a slight hint of an English background. I heard somewhere that the current station voice is also AI but I can't pick it. What I am happy about is my script and announcement timings and script variations are still being used with minor alterations some 30 years later.
@@TransportofPerthit’s door closing announcement didn’t update on the B and C series, only can hear on the A series, that means the door closing announcement of the B and C series were the original one since they are get into the service.
@@minxythemerciless Ah you were talking about the station ones ok! That certainly is cool that they are still using what you wrote. Cool that you're commenting here. Any idea why at the new stations is only says which platform a train will depart from and now how many minutes until it will?
I had heard from my mates at Transperth (a long time ago) that you couldn't couple more than two trains sets together for safety reasons. Yet I've seen more two sets coupled together in other countries, and now I know it's possible to do it with the A-sets. Great catch.
I saw the six car a series in the nowergup depot this morning, it looks super cool. Yesterday one of the b series said it was terminating at butler and the driver had to announce it was wrong lol. Quite cool to hear it after the extension and might’ve got a rare video of it too.
That is crazy that they are now running a series to yanchep and the Butler, Alkimos, Eglinton, Yanchep. Announcements for male had to be mashed in lol 😂
There's a good chance the original male announcer (with some age since) was recalled to re-record the lines. Both announcers were paid per project rather than by royalties, so that means Transperth could keep them for as long as they liked. The story went that Yanchep was actually predictable and possible with the original old male announcer because the announcers were asked to read out all the possible suburb names and whatever on the map that may be on a future extension. The difficult one was actually "Elizabeth Quay" because that name change really more or less came out of nowhere, but was still possible if this was recorded after 2012! Maybe someone could write to Transperth and ask them to put male voices on B-Series and C-Series trains as well so that we have some diversity on the network.
There’s a lot of theories with the announcement systems, however I feel it’s AI for some of it such as the Bayswater announcement for the male voice. That announcement sounds so computerised. It’ll be interesting to see what will happen for the Thornlie Cockburn Link and even Ellenbrook Line as it is definitely possible they may run A series on it
I remember when Butler opened they had to get an extra 15 b series and when Aubin Grove opened they got an extra 2 b series. So whos to say with the new stations opening they probably need extra trains still hence using the a series again.
Awesome vid mate!! And even more awesome getting male announcements - may not happen again! I guess that’s one benefit of the Armadale line shutdown! On a completely unrelated topic has an a series ever been in passenger service all the way to Mandurah. The gap after warnbro would be epic if it did!!
They only run in the non-peak direction. All trains in the peak direction will run full line so even trains that come out of the depot in the afternoon as a K pattern (like this A-series), will then run a full service towards the end of peak.
Just wondering has the scrolling been replaced with the proper exit sign now? Also another question as they are still using a series on the yanchep and a few on ellenbrook will there be sufficient trains for the armadale line reopening this year? Or will they need to be in two car still?
@@iainhughes4630 Yes it has been replaced. Yes they still run As up especially now to.allow more Bs to be on Ellenbrook Line. There should be enough to reopen with A-series I believe, at least up to Gosnells which is what will be happening this year.
That’s great they have been updated! If you take video requests a video documenting this change is my request. :) Interesting they prefer putting A on the Yanchep line as opposed to the Ellenbrook line as it would be easier to roster on and smaller gaps between stations etc. Is Armadale/Byford not opening this year? I assume (the new) Australind won’t operate either… Thats a shame after all this time closed…
Seems they’ve likely pre-recorded all of those announcements for Thornlie Cockburn Link and Ellenbrook Line already besides of Yanchep Line Extension 😛
I doubt they had that much foresight; text-to-speech seems like a more reasonable theory, but we'll never know unless Transperth somehow comments. One thing's for sure; I hope the C series brings him back as much as the A series did as well.
@@peterdavies1679 This train was spotted by people on my Discord server. The C-series can be easily found by going on live train times on the Transperth website (www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Timetables/Live-Train-Times?) and looking which train is marked as being "0 cars".

@@HCritchett Yes on weekdays only between Cockburn and Whitfords. Weekends they do full like but usually just one. I'm saying that with the extension almost all B-series are being used or cleaned in weekday peak so they rely on the other trains a lot.
6-Car A-series ran a few times before for events where they required capacity for bikes even down in Mandurah and also on Friday it did a Mandurah Line W pattern but it is definitely extremely rare especially all the way to Yanchep.
