  • It seems like more and more that CDs aren’t being given the proper attention during packing & shipping. Therefore I have compiled this “How To” video about the best ways to pack, ship, and move CDs. With the latter focusing on large moves for big music collections of hundreds and even thousands of CDs.

    I'm moving from NJ to California in the next month or so. Definitely going to box up my CDs in the 33250 boxes. These are great additional tips regarding waterproofing! As architects, I feel like all we are very mindful to good waterproofing practices!

      Yes we are probably more so than the average person. But I know as collectors it weighs on all of us. We don’t want anything to happen to the collection.

    Dude… You’re the absolute Mensch of CD shipping! Love how you have thought this process through and made a very clear video about it as well. Many thanks.
    I’m about to move to the other side of the planet… 10,000 miles away. And so I’m Culling my CD collection down from 2K to about 500. I plan to ditch the jewel cases and use those sleeve/notebook style binders. Each binder holding about 200 disks. Of course I’ll have to ditch most of the CD booklets but all that info is now typically available online.
    Anyway… Thank You so much for the shipping info!

    I’m a vinyl collector but I have a friend who is a cd collector. I’ve promised them I will send them a few items that I know they happen to be after that I found in a charity shop. The CDs were incredibly cheap and in really good condition and appear to me to be genuine. So my friend is thrilled.
    I just don’t want to ruin them in shipping.

    I have all my CDs in those plastic tubs where you can stack them 2 or 3 high and lay a few flat across the top. Part of the reason is I will be painting my rec room. Once that is done, I will be putting them back in my media cabinet. I have around 430 CDs and about 150 LPs.

    Does seem like the cds that get from overseas seem to be packaged better, imo. My go-to Import CDs have nice single cardboard envelope mailers that protect very well. Amazon seems to not give a rat's ass about protection on cds, horrible. Thanks Brendon. 💯

      Agreed, some of the best I've seen were from Japan. Funny how CDs can be shipped across the world without any damage, but not domestically.

      Amazon ship with the priority on speed, and not handling with care.

  • @the80slivehere

    Hi Brendon: 😊👍. The banker's box cut-down was a game-changer for me. Thank you again! Amazon has just gotten too big to care about packing CDs. They are small potatoes. Other companies (Rhino, Bomp, Oldies, Hamilton Book) pack with incredible care. Moving collections is so stressful. Between my European porcelain, artwork, and CDs and LPs, I end up "hand-carrying" a ton. What I mean by that is packing it up carefully and carrying it in my car or using my own rented van. This is best for local moves where several trips can be made if needed. I just don't trust movers with very fragile items. A long distance move would require me to give more to the movers, but I would try to move as much as I can myself. What exciting hell moving is with collections! Rock Always! Heather

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Heather, I know what you mean. And regarding a local move, absolutely I’d love by hand myself too and have in the past. But for bigger distance moves between states where movers are hired, I have found this to be a good solution.

      Hamilton Books has unique packaging- especially cool they way they ship DVDs. Never received a damaged item from them- highly recommended (their prices aren’t too shabby neither).

    I moved about six months ago in October I used plastic crates and moved CDs a little at a time keeping each letter together I had a special section which had to be kept in order I moved them myself and took about a day for the special cd's I moved myself with the help of my sister and wife. Now I'm still trying to alphabetize my cds that just finished letter N.

    Nice video with good ideas..I have moved a few times and carefully move my collection. I made sure not to make them too heavy.
    I just ordered a used CD from Amazon and it was packed so well. It actually came from Half Price Books and Amazon was the middle man.I am grateful this out of print album wasn't damaged.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it was through Amazon Marketplace then Amazon only facilities the sale but has nothing to do with packing and shipping which is why it came so well protected because the seller actually did it and not Amazon. But Amazon is just playing the numbers game. It’s cheaper for them to skimp on shipping, save money, and pay it out in replacements only when someone complains. It drives me nuts.

    • @jimmycampbell78
      @jimmycampbell78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Amazon was the platform you ordered on but the purchase actually came from a third party.

    Amazon used to ship way better but they got cheap. I hate the way they ship now. Everything from Europe is always done better. I have that Loudness on original vinyl. You can make nice triangle container for posters too.
    The Banker Boxes are an excellent idea and I think I'm going to order some for storage. Currently I'm using totes but I'm not happy with them.

    Great advice Brendan but what about vinyl storage and moving. I have found this plastic boxes hold 75 albums but extremely heavy to move only downside but well protected 62 litre plastic boxes 12 pounds each pricey but they stack well . Thanks for making video I too have a lot of cds not as many as you lol more vinyl records in my case . Take care joe

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I Joe, same philosophy for vinyl as CDs. Find a rigid box that perfectly fits vinyl and use it. But that’s easier said than done I know. It seems the dimensions of CDs fit so much more and much easier. But in the end it’s that you don’t want any movement. Things need to be tight so the vinyl is held in place preventing damage from movement.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s is not unfortunately but that’s due to how much it would cost to insure it for the right amount. I’d be paying several hundred each month which is an added expense that seems counterintuitive. But if it wasn’t that much I’d do it for sure.
