i know it's possibly a bit nit-picky, but it's not really a cover if the guy who wrote the music is playing guitar on it! But I get what you meant. Just being one of those smug arseholes on the interweb. : )
This is a great version of this song. It was always my favourite song of the Smiths. Now Neil Finn has brought it back again and it is fantastic! I love the way the both acknowledge each other at the end of the song. I play this all the time. Johnny Marr is fantastic too!
Thank goodness for the internet and thank you for posting this hidden gem that we might have never seen from down under or I mean New Zealand incredible
I have always loved the Finn Brothers. Thank you for the music and this cover is better than the original 🤭🤭 I loved your humour in Brighton, U.K. 4 June 1994. (I believe it helped me finally pass my maths exam for uni. Lol) It was lashing it down and the waves were huge! But not like NZ you would want to surf in. Lol. I love your music too. A young teen, thinking I'll make it there some day, but life has its twist and turns. I adore your music too. Don't dream it's over. 😉😂😘🙏🏻🫶🏻
What a voice and fantastic Line up! Truly great musicians who gave the musiclovers such great songs ! Thanks a lot! I saw them during this tour and was so overwhelmed with emotions !
I was thinking that. There's not much charisma coming off the stage though, is there? The band looked bored too. And it's not really a cover, more like a photocopy, nothing much original added (nice bit of violin). I like it, but it is a bit meh...there's a spark missing. Back to the original for me (and back to Neil's own stuff which is brilliant). :-)
Hi Cara🌹🌹 Sorry I have to reply this late😊. I am so fortunate to have you as one of my Fan..I am currently carrying out a social media experiment, and would love to know how I have impacted my fans with what I do.. Neil Finn loves you. 😘 You can always reach me through my personal email. therealneilfinnhimself@gmail.com
For some reason, Neil Finn sounds like what I imagine Daniel Radcliffe sounds like when he sings. In a good way, of course. I love this song and this cover version, by the way!
Interesting bit about this song for me. I first discovered the Smiths from my younger (actually half) sister after I just moved where I now live. There was a girl I went to school with who I just talked to casually. I don't know if I was interested in her or not but, when I would listen to this song I could literally see her and I driving around with her at the wheel especially with the line about a "darkened underpass I thought oh God my chance has come at last, but then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask". This was also my last year of High School (1990). About 3 months after we had graduated, I got a letter form her in the mail saying that she knew I had a girlfriend but asking me if there would ever be a chance at us becoming an item. I thought about her a few times after it but when I had the thought of inquiring I had lost the letter and had no way to do so. It's been a while and our lives are obviously in different places and I am not sure if I was interested in her our not as we didn't know each other super well and I guess she was a bit different than the type of girls that I tended to be attracted to at that time. I still think of this sometimes when I hear this song, though not with some longing to be with the girl or anything on that level. But the song has always struck a chord in me for a different reason than that. I can relate to the feeling of not feeling welcomed at home. Of feeling like one has been trapped "I want to see people and I want to see light". The feeling of being lost and alone because heaven knows there is nothing at home but darkness and misery, so there is nothing to go home to, which very much relates to the life I was trying to leave behind when I moved to where I live now at 17. The melodies and the feel of the song really get to me, and this is one of my all time favorite's despite the sentimental morbidness of the chorus. It's also kind of funny that considering I have been a guitar player for a long time now, I have only learned to play this song in the last few days. Partially from this video. Just thought I would share. Hopefully that doesn't sound too silly :-)
It doesn't sound silly in the slightest. I liked reading your memories of what this song means to you .I think those of us who loved The Smiths at the very beginning and who love them to this day would have various tales to tell about what their songs invoke in us from all those years ago.
I’m trying to find the following versions: * a truly good metal version * fully orchestral version * Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson version * ABBA style cover ( in any germanic language other than English ) Anyone? 🙋🏻♂️🙏🤍
Neil where did you and your wife meet? Did u grow up together or went to college and love at first sight? Both of you are very musical. I can appreciate that I also come from a musical family. Even way back in Vaudeville days my grandmas sister and husband played all over the world especially Europe a lot in France🇺🇸

It’s 2024 and I just discovered this today 🤯❤❤❤
Welcome
The whole set is awesome. Another good one is A concert for George.
Neil Finn and Johnny Marr on one stage.....it doesn't get much better
It does - Morrissey & Marr!!
It does. Elvis and Tom Jones.
And ed O' Brian!
Plus 2/5 of Radiohead
I can't not cry! 😭😀💚
Neil is a light and he never goes out🌠
Yes he is the closest voice to an angel in heaven
@@dorissmith2576 amen! 💚
The violin does so much great work here.
Lisa Germano… she’s wonderful in every way ;)
She’s a talent in her own right, lie all of them. I think she worked with Prince.
Neil's voice sounds so sweet and pure on this. Not heard him cover Smiths before.
The Smiths and Crowded House...awesome!
And Radiohead
Johnny fookin' Marr!
Absolutely the best cover I've ever heard of this song!
EDWARD WRIGHT Definitely! You could tell from the very first few words.
i know it's possibly a bit nit-picky, but it's not really a cover if the guy who wrote the music is playing guitar on it! But I get what you meant. Just being one of those smug arseholes on the interweb. : )
Nop, the best cover ever is with Ocean Blue!
EDWARD WRIGHT Mine is by Morrissey every time 😃
He's got the lyrics wrong. It's a shit cover.
That Neil Finn is just such a fine muscian my Mozart
Neil FInn and Johnny should work on an album together. It would be awesome I'd think.
they did. search for 7 worlds collide "the sun came out"
JM co wrote and played on a bunch of stuff on 'Time On Earth', Crowded House's reunion LP from 2007. 'Don't Stop Now' is a highlight. ; )
danoz doesn't he play guitar on even a child and he helped to write it I think?
sounds about right- i dont have the physical album credits handy, but I'd hazard a guess!
@@dm7626 Four years too late, but hey: Johnny's daughter is singing on "Even a Child" :-)
This is a great version of this song. It was always my favourite song of the Smiths. Now Neil Finn has brought it back again and it is fantastic! I love the way the both acknowledge each other at the end of the song. I play this all the time. Johnny Marr is fantastic too!
When Neil covers you, you should listen. Such an honor! Especially how much he respects everyone he plays with and covers.
So it WAS Ed O'Brien on guitar!!! Awesome!!!
One of the all-time great covers, take a bow Mr Finn.
A musical masterpiece. That line up 😮❤
Superb! Best non-Smiths version ever. Love Morrisey to cover "Fall at your Feet"
AMAZING COVER! LOVE the way Neil Finn adds his signature wail at the end. PERFECT!!
Violin sounds perfect with this song.
That's Lisa Germano from Indiana, USA!
Thank goodness for the internet and thank you for posting this hidden gem that we might have never seen from down under or I mean New Zealand incredible
There's a CD.. Just follow all that is Neil Finn, you'll enjoy good music :)
finn marr and germano. beyond great
Nothing short of brilliant!
The. Best. Ever.
Neil's voice! Amazing
Everything Neil does is perfectly brilliant. Can't stop wondering this for years

That's what you call a brilliant cover song.
One of the best cover..
Neil Finn always does great covers
Great musicians
Two musicians I adore.

Until hell freezes over this is an awesome substitute
Excellent version good on you Neil & Co.
There is a light that never goes out.
Hot damn, what a cover!!
Love it!! Why does everyone look bored???? Omg I would have been singing along all crazy

Qué magistral versión hace Neil del clásico de Morrisey.

Greatest cover so far
Great song. Ive been there no home. Sux
Great cover.
I wish I could have been at this concert!
First time i've seen Ed O'Brien playing an acoustic guitar.
Wow. Nailed it.
Just Johnny Marr slinging his axe. Should say Neil Finn and friend.
Johnny is in the presence of greatness. First time in awhile.
Pure bliss. And I know bliss. 😉
OMG, this is so good.
Great fucking performance
This is how i discovered neil finn
Such a great cover. The crowd looks so confused.
At what point in the video does the confused look occur?
I must be dreaming 😊😃

Buenísima versión de está excelente canción. Me gusta !!!
Quien dijo que un cover es un borde plagio? Sublime version.
Neil covers a song and the original becomes ...a cover of a Neil finn song
Just found this after watching Rick Astley's performance at Glastonbury.. this is far better, retaining the mood of the wonderful original.
Best song ever
They did really damn good, easily Second best cover I've heard.
But nothing can beat the Atmosphere of the original, apart from Like The Wind.
Nice cover
Yessssss👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
No laser beams, no flying dolls, no fireworks or fancy costumes ...
Just wonderful
Maravilloso 😍
yo lo escucho hace uuff es buenasa :v
Nails it ❤
Nice jangly rhythm guitar.
Is that like half of Radiohead too?
Brazil 2022 yes the smiths
Beautifull
awesome!!
Love it! ❤️❤️❤️
Neil is no joke
Heaven

Damn, Neil could of been in the Smiths no problem!! Great cover.
I think some 5000 views are from me.

You go on a bit
😍👍😍👍😘😘
Low-key prefer this to the original.
That audience didn't deserve that song.
Brill xx
Strange to see Johnny playing an SG instead of his usual Fender.

🙋🏻♂️🙏🤍
Got a verse a bit wrong but a great job
Johnny Marr looks like Gem Archer (Oasis)
Other way around!
Lorenzo Dicembre Official Brother, there is only ONE Johnny Fuckin' Marr
Agree
I think the reason Neil is covering this ( Besides it being a great song) is the fact that this song hardly rhymes, just like most of his own songs.
Neil where did you and your wife meet? Did u grow up together or went to college and love at first sight? Both of you are very musical. I can appreciate that I also come from a musical family. who else could do this and not look silly?
That glance Marr gives to his right at 3:14 is "yeah, he's got this."
Meatloaf?
Lyndsey Buckingham?
