Gradius 4 on higher loops is said to be tougher than 3 on higher loops is. 3 and 4 together represent Konami when they really were psychos when they wanted their games to be diffiult to challenge the player.

Continues are always have been a thing of the Overseas/International versions. The Japanese version of the first three Gradius games (four including Salamander) never had continues. Since Gradius III was released only in Japan and in Asia, it keeps the tradition of not allowing the player to continue once his last life is lost.
There are some very interesting bosses in this. I see alot of those sand beetle type things in old games but that first boss is by far the biggest one.

Hi, I kinda low-key hate you rn. I haven't even made it to the third boss yet. I'm getting better but much more difficult than the SNES' Gradius game. Although, I must admit that I'm improving quickly b/c I played the heck out of the SNES version.
I loooooved this game when I got it for my super Nintendo back in the day... I am still convinced that the level with the super fast part and closing walls is impossible without the speed down upgrade

You probably went on full hardcore to learn their pattern (only the Y axis of their spawn is random, their X axis on when they fly towards you is fixed, as well as which one flies towards you. I only remember it's block 1, 4, 5, 8, 9... but that's it)
You know what? When I saw how insane bosses in this version, I think I will stick to the SNES version. I am probably will not gonna beat this game. Holy bacterinans, that was outsanding.l!
Magnificently done once again! 🤗 This one's perhaps the hardest of the Gradius saga. The most challenging parts is no doubt the infamous tunnel flight; one small mistake will send you back straight to the last checkpoint. And here I thought that the Ace Combat saga was the only one!!
