  • Ladder blinds are a fun drill with no pressure to teach your dog to drive further out and build confidence. By keeping the bumpers visible, every time the dog picks one up it see's beyond to the next. This teaches the dog to carry a line and encourages momentum. In this video we use our private drive as an alley but any pathway or short cover will work.

Excellent! Ladder blinds can be planted with the dog in the kennel. That way pup learns to line to new destinations with confidence, learning the concept instead of running back to an old location.

Should en route force be used during this drill?

No. It's a young dog drill with no pressure to encourage them to go farther and in a straight line. Pressure comes later when you start force to pile. Thanks for the good question.

I spend the first winter running ladder blinds on snowmobile trails...soon they are lining with confidence for hundreds of yards. Each time is a new location (new snowmobile trail) so learning the concept of running with confidence to an unknown destination: th-cam.com/video/8KS6U5NR6wM/w-d-xo.html I wait until pup is focused on the correct destination and then use "Good" to inform him that is the correct line to run,

Great addition to this topic Missy! I would probably give that a try if I had a snowmobile, sometimes our driveway can get icy so we avoid doing certain drills on it. It is a good idea to change locations too, it all depends on what you have access to. Great feedback!!!
