There can be only One. Outofthisworld timing, phrazing, musicality and groove all come together when DW plays. He's older. And way better than he ever was. It's only possible when you devote your full potential and craftmanship as a musician by turning talent into pure wisdom. Not so many can. And certainly not like him... Been a fan since I first heard him play with Camillo and Jackson. Two Yedi's and a Padawan. Dave's one of the last true Drum Yedi's. Like Obi Wan Gadd and Darth Colaiuta. Remember Zildjian Day? He's just laying down the notes differently 30 years later, but the groove's still the same. Epic.
Something that I admire in Maestro Weckl is that even though he has seeming limitless technique and ability, he never over plays. NEVER. The music comes first. Everything he plays fits seamlessly into the composition. His playing is very nuanced and structured. I enjoy listening to more him than any other drummer. He's more than a drummer. He is a musician. Thank you for your dedication and hard work Maestro Weckl.
There's so many supremely talented drummers out there but every time I hear Dave play his phrasing, incredible clear sound and fat free fast fluid flawless mechanics that underlies his great musicality it always blows my mind.
Dave Weckel for me is simply unique. It has. an incredible precision and technique combined with a wonderful taste and sensitivity to the surface. . You are my favorite DRUMMER. God bless you greatly. Gratitude

Beautiful, what he does with that latin beat - a Songo beat, I think - but really jazzed up, Weckl-style ? - I just know it's a very familiar latin rhythm that's never sounded so good.
A lot of the modern drummers play the same sort of chops, sound similar. Dave Weckl is one of those drummers who's truly in a level above most drummers.
