Hey, what a suprise. I came accross your channel by accident few weeks ago and I like it but I didn't expect to see a reaction video about my coutry! Belgium is a small country so I've been in most of those places: I was born and raised in Liège, lived few years in Brussels, worked for EU institution right near Le Cinquantenaire where I was often going for a walk... or a nap lol. I was married in the townhall in The Grand Place of Brussels. I'm living now in tbe flemish part near Brussels and still working in Brussels. Monday, I've planned to spend the day in Bruges with my spouse as she really love that city. Thanks for the video. It was cool to watch.
Nobody talked about: Leo_Baekeland ( the inventor of the firts polymeer ever), Gerard Mercator (the man who gave us maps as we know it today), the art history (Peter Paul Rubens, James Ensor etc...),and the godfather of Art Nouveau Victor Horta (and/or Henry Van De Velde for that matter)and many other. But that being said, I loved watching this video. Thx... Belgium, my country too.

French fries are actually ‘frenched’ fries, meaning cut into long thin strips. There is no connection with France, but maybe the misunderstanding is also caused by English soldiers who came in contact with fries in Walloon, the french speaking part of belgium.
Welcome to My country Belgium 🙂 You can tank us for the Saxophone 😛 In Brussel, near the grand'place, you can go to the Délirium bar. You have menu of 1500+ beer of all belgium and around the world.
Hello, it's my country and I can say there are many, many many more to see, let's begin with my town: Liège. I'm sure you have already seen the famous train station in films. About architecture, you're right but missed some historic facts: before being an independant country Belgium lived under hollander and french dominations, mainly. And there were many battles against Prussian Empire (actual Germany is only a part of it). Because of its central situation in Europe, oour land was a infinite battlefield. So the different architectures type you have seen are from Middle Age to 18th century and have many influences, from France to Germany, but from Italy too. And a large part has just been built by the belgian people at the time. They had learned from Roman Empire and before. We are one of the areas were civilisation starts to build cities. Last thing: in Wallonia, where we speak french, we are known as good living people and tourists appreciate how it's good to have a walk in our small or large cities OR little villages, my favorites. You're all welcome here (no I don't work for the tourist office, lol).
I’ll never get why they avoid talking about the city where I’m from: the City of Liège. I’m not saying that because it’s where I’m from, but because it’s a cultural gem! From the 900’s until 1791, it was a country of its own, home to one of the biggest and oldest (built in the 1100’s) cathedrals: the Cathedral-Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Lambert (destroyed during the Liège and French revolution in the 1790’s). It has several great and very special monuments like the "Montagne de Bueren", the Saint-Jacques Church, the Guillemins train station, the Royal Opera, the Forum, the Princes-Évêques palace, the Saint-Paul Cathedral, some beautiful cafes, and on top of that, it’s a culinary paradise! Home to the worldwide known Liège Waffle, the Lacquemants, the Boulets Liégeois, and so many more incredible food. I get upset every time these videos don’t talk about it 😂! They’re missing out!!
I agree. I am a little disappointed that it's nowhere in the video. The city has a huge history and some incredible places to visit. The people are way more friendly than some other cities and you can easily see a lot within a single day because of the public transportation. Unfortunately, the city was mistreated for years by the authorities and the city center was a mess. It was fixed for several years but It is now again in a limbo state with the Tramway being in an extended final construction state. I hope it will be better next year.
@ thank you for your comment! It summarizes the city very well. Poverty, unemployment and dr*gs, combined with catastrophic management by the authorities, have unfortunately made the city less beautiful than it really was in the past. Yet, there are still very charming places, we, the Liège citizens, love to welcome people and treat them as old friends, and the History Book of Liège is, as you mentioned, very thick! So many odd things happened there and people love to learn some anecdotes about the past! Concerning the tramway extension, well it’s now close to completion 🤩 I walk in Liège almost everyday, and I’m very surprised about the new look she has! The Opera Square viewed from the Saint-Lambert’s Square vantage point, is absolutely stunning! Especially by night. It’s becoming beautiful again, Liège just needs time, better authorities and motivation. ✨
Love this reaction! You gotta visit Belgium, it's an underrated destination for sure! Easily overlooked. But it is stunning overall and packed with history. I live in Antwerp, and watching this video I realised I often forget how beautiful it actually is here. Your reaction to central station was awesome to me, as I am so used to it, I don't even notice it's beauty anymore.
Fun fact: the big arcades of the Cinquenaire that you can see at 17:00 is the place where Marylin Manson came to shoot the videoclip for the song "This is the new sh*t"...
It took only 30 years to build the Leuven town hall, they put the first brick in 1439 and were done in 1469. You should have a look at some interior videos, you'll be amazed.
The architectural type is Dutch. The first Merovingian king, Clovis in 511, who will create France, comes from Tournai. The land of present-day Belgium is steeped in millenary history. The collegiate church in front of my house is 1024 and has celebrated its 1000 years this year.
No, the style is flemish. The dutch style is the flemish style that has evolved when protestant belgians fled there. Flanders thrived a centuries before the dutch did.
when i see your reaction, i can only be proud to be a belgian guy, i was already proud about my country and i'm born in brusels, we have a small country but with a big hart and everybody is welcome here, i lived into the trhree regio's and i can assure that i have so many places to discover here, thank you again for showing us this video and your reactions were wow
Pretty sure 1.000 beers is an understatement. I believe there are far more. Also: Most of them were/are not brewed by trappist monks. There are only 10 trappist beers in the world and 5 of those are brewed here (Westvleteren, Westmally, Chimay, Orval & Rochefort). There are a lot of abbeybeers though, but All trappistbeers are abbeybeers, not all abbeybeers are trappistbeers :D
I am Belgian and happy to see that you love my country. My country has the largest concentration of castles per square kilometre in the world! And don't worry, many Belgians speak English!
The Belgian flag dates from 1830, the year of its independence, even if since antiquity we find Bélgica prima and Bélgica secunda. The German flag dates from 1871, before that it was the Prussian Empire, so we can say that they copied us (I am a Walloon Belgian, therefore from the south of Belgium).
In Brussels ,you have the palace of justice (a court tribunal) For years, it was the biggest human construction (260000 square meters) But it's been under renovation for decades, now Btw, wallonia (southern Belgium) used to be the world second industrial power for more than 50 years This video only shows you the tip of the Iceberg
did you know they that theyre repairing the palace for so long now that they first have to hire people to repair the construction site itself that repairs the building? ahahahahhah
Regarding Belgian architecture, you gotta keep in mind that Belgium only exists since 1830, and that some of those buildings are older than Belgium itself. A lot of our architecture is just a patchwork of french, dutch and german.
Beer is part of Belgium’s DNA. The country boasts some 200 breweries and 2,500 different beers. In 2016, UNESCO added Belgian beer culture to its list of intangible cultural heritage.
22:49 ayo ! i live behind these trees just beside the Citadelle ! 😂 And dont forget, if you come in Belgium, do it during the summer, you'll have more sun and beautiful pics. And dont forget to try our "Carbonnade flamande" or "boulets sauce liégeois" :)
0:52 that first building is the Castle of Gaasbeek, about 10 km southwest of Brussels. Half of the walls were taken down. This region is called "Pajottenland" and its speciality is sour beers (Gueuze, Kriek, Lambic,...).
You'd think that with all the tools and technology we have today, we could build better than bland, boring concrete and glass skyscrapers, when, with none of that, our ancestors built pure marvels with just their bare hands and cleverly designed tools. As for Belgian beer, you might like to know more about it in this excellent documentary: "Discover Belgian Beer" - LCBO
Well, it’s clear that many cities in Wallonia have been overlooked. From this, we can guess who was behind this tourist attraction project. But anyway, it’s not a big deal. Flanders is beautiful, especially some of its historic cities, but much of the rest is quite flat. Still, it’s lovely as long as you don’t mind the Flemish people (speaking generally, they’re happy as long as you make a small effort). That said, I believe many cities in Wallonia have been unfairly left out, which is a shame. They boast so much history and stunning architecture-true cultural treasures. All in all, Belgium is a beautiful little country.
Durbuy is a nice place, but by no means is it the smallest ciry in the world. Just in next door Netherlands, the city of Staverden got it's city rights in 1298, while the "city" in current day only has about 30 inhabitants.
Belgium and Germany both used to belong to the holy roman empire, that's why their medieval architecture is similar, same for czech republic, netherlands, parts of france and italy and ofcourse austria and switzerland. only 1% of Belgians speak german btw, most others never learn it, tho german and dutch are mutually intelligeable to an extend. 60% of Belgium speaks dutch, the rest French and German.

proud of my countree! Also I work at a hotel and the Americans who vistit us, are a bitt claustrophobic because most cities are right next to eatchother with no space in between. Thats in the noth part, otherwise called Flanders. In Wallonia it's all for from eatchother :)
Okay so. Fries are in fact from France. But like the French made the austrian croissants actually something interesting and all, us Belgians made the fries actually popular. Before that it was one or two random dudes in Paris selling them, but we perfected them
It's kinda true though, we do a lot of sitting drinking and eating whilst looking around watching the people pass on those squares... and yeah it was definitely booming in architecture under Austrian rule in the 1800's.

I love my country !
It was cool to watch.
belgium nice love my country✌
Hello from Belgium (Liège). Love to see discovering wonders of Belgium.
The shrub discovering de tree... It's cute like a 10 years old child seeing his mother for the first time !
Bonjour de Belgique...Pays de Tintin.... de Lara Fabian, Jacques Brel et de
stromae
Awesome greetings from Belgium. O yes greetings from Ghent . Groetjes uit Gent.🤗🍺🍻
Belgian here. Belgium is very underrated.
Born in Leuven, Belgium! I spent a lot of my younger years at the 'Oude Markt' 😆Walked numerous times past the town hall.
French fries are actually ‘frenched’ fries, meaning cut into long thin strips.
There is no connection with France, but maybe the misunderstanding is also caused by English soldiers who came in contact with fries in Walloon, the french speaking part of belgium.
Welcome to My country Belgium 🙂
You can tank us for the Saxophone 😛
In Brussel, near the grand'place, you can go to the Délirium bar. You have menu of 1500+ beer of all belgium and around the world.
The footages didn't do much justice to my beautiful home of Namur. It's at least as charming as Dinant on a sunny day.
Merci 👍🇧🇪
22:26 it’s my house 🙃 the White one right in the middle
Beautifuuuuuuuuuul
1:09 hey I actually go there every day the Louise tram stop (Avenue de la Toison d’or) 😂👍
Fun fact: the big arcades of the Cinquenaire that you can see at 17:00 is the place where Marylin Manson came to shoot the videoclip for the song "This is the new sh*t"...
It took only 30 years to build the Leuven town hall, they put the first brick in 1439 and were done in 1469. You should have a look at some interior videos, you'll be amazed.
Fun fact New York was founded by a Belgian Pierre Minuit and was built by Belgians and Dutch
Belgium castles = Old castles in movies
France castles = disneyland castles
The architectural type is Dutch.
The first Merovingian king, Clovis in 511, who will create France, comes from Tournai.
The land of present-day Belgium is steeped in millenary history.
The collegiate church in front of my house is 1024 and has celebrated its 1000 years this year.
No, the style is flemish. The dutch style is the flemish style that has evolved when protestant belgians fled there. Flanders thrived a centuries before the dutch did.
It's three miles from my home to Belgium. Been there, seen that !
when i see your reaction, i can only be proud to be a belgian guy, i was already proud about my country and i'm born in brusels, we have a small country but with a big hart and everybody is welcome here, i lived into the trhree regio's and i can assure that i have so many places to discover here, thank you again for showing us this video and your reactions were wow
I'm born in Dinant... Beautiful city
Damn copy cats, btw, thank you for that info. I didn't know that, greetings from Antwerp.
@GamingDad Greetings from Binche
25:39 is probably the ancestor of a serious minecraft player 🤣 the fun fact is they did it in survival 😲😲
In Brussels ,you have the palace of justice (a court tribunal)
For years, it was the biggest human construction (260000 square meters)
But it's been under renovation for decades, now
Btw, wallonia (southern Belgium) used to be the world second industrial power for more than 50 years
This video only shows you the tip of the Iceberg
did you know they that theyre repairing the palace for so long now that they first have to hire people to repair the construction site itself that repairs the building? ahahahahhah
Regarding Belgian architecture, you gotta keep in mind that Belgium only exists since 1830, and that some of those buildings are older than Belgium itself. A lot of our architecture is just a patchwork of french, dutch and german.
05:23 yes, that looks like Amsterdam too me too. Bulldog brand doesn't have "stores" in Belgium.
Beer is part of Belgium’s DNA. The country boasts some 200 breweries and 2,500 different beers. In 2016, UNESCO added Belgian beer culture to its list of intangible cultural heritage.
5:23 this is Netherland not belgium. This bulldolg is a coffeshop in Amsterdam...
22:49 ayo ! i live behind these trees just beside the Citadelle ! 😂 And dont forget, if you come in Belgium, do it during the summer, you'll have more sun and beautiful pics. And dont forget to try our "Carbonnade flamande" or "boulets sauce liégeois" :)
25:13 That's my TownHall!! Love my city 🎉🎉
it's the best country in the world
0:52 that first building is the Castle of Gaasbeek, about 10 km southwest of Brussels. Half of the walls were taken down. This region is called "Pajottenland" and its speciality is sour beers (Gueuze, Kriek, Lambic,...).
Greetings from Charleroi...I'm so proud of my tiny little country...
I live on the border with Belgium. It's a criminally underrated country.
They didn't even mentiond Spa, the cradle for... Spa...
Cool video,i come from belgium
Well, it’s clear that many cities in Wallonia have been overlooked. From this, we can guess who was behind this tourist attraction project. But anyway, it’s not a big deal. Flanders is beautiful, especially some of its historic cities, but much of the rest is quite flat. Still, it’s lovely as long as you don’t mind the Flemish people (speaking generally, they’re happy as long as you make a small effort).
That said, I believe many cities in Wallonia have been unfairly left out, which is a shame. They boast so much history and stunning architecture-true cultural treasures. All in all, Belgium is a beautiful little country.
belgium mi contry and proud from brugge too arlon from antwerpen too tournais
Joyeux Noël de Belgique 😊
40:53 perfect, except politicians..love from belgium
Hi, I'm a belgian myself, born in Namur, living currently between Namur and Dinant alongside the river "Meuse" I have a few anecdotes about the country and it's history (I'm a medieval re-enactor so i'm quite aquainted with history) So if you have any questions we could have a call someday so I could share with you my culture 😁
i'm was born in the 70s in belgium, i always ask myself in what belgium do i LIVE realy, and belgium is one off the most taxed country in the world welcome.
Bruges is my favourite.
I was born in Ostend but I live in the Ardennes, I studied in Namur, my grandparents come from Dinant, my father lived in Liège.
Fortunately we have beer and fries to survive the long foggy winter ^^
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ;)
Belgium and the Netherlands are called the lower countries. This comes from Lower Germany.
I don't unserstand why they don't say anything about Liège... what a pitty
In the medival and later we were much richer then germany. Flanders was one of the most rich regions of the world .
At 2:46 my childhood neighbourhood ;)
At 2:00, Belgium is a mix-culture country, also in architecture. Actually, the "stairway" stryle of buildings is spanish
proud of my countree!
Hello from Charleroi! (Don't visit this city 😅) If you want a laugh, watch “Allo Police”, it's a documentary about the city in the 80s with the police. But I think you'll have trouble with the Walloon accent 😅.
