Here in Nova Scotia we often see Great Blue Heron along our coast and waterways. Last spring I was solo camping under an old Birch tree at a confluence of 2 small rivers. In the evening I was sitting on a gravel bed beside the confluence enjoying a small campfire when I heard the sound of air being moved by wings. Before I could react to the sound a Great Blue Heron flew over a bunch of alders that were obstructing my view upstream. It was flying around head height to me and only about 15 feet away. It was remarkable to see. We made eye contact and I spoke to it as it passed. The details of it I was able to see was astounding. It looked like it landed out of sight a bit downstream so I grabbed my camera and snuck through the woods and was able to capture just a few seconds of video of it in the setting sun before it flew away. Thank you for providing deeper meaning to this experience I had Christa. I appreciate it very much.
