    No till growers has a good video on scapes from about 2 years ago. They recommend removing the scapes as soon as possible, based on peer reviewed research from Spain (if I’m remembering correctly). Higher bulb yields and allicin content compared to leaving the scapes to grow.

      Depends on your goal. If you want garlic and nothing else, then yeah, cut the scapes. But if you just want food in general, scapes aren't bad for variety. It's nice when you can get multiple types of food from a single plant

    • @gophersgirl
      @gophersgirl ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I removed my scapes this year when the bulb was visible, let's see if they're bigger than last yr, also last yr they all had worms in them. This time I was able to eat them...

      Variety is nice tho, you can have the scapes as alternative source of garlic flavor while waiting for the bulbs to mature

      Hello, sorry, I still have difficulties in English and I just recently planted a garlic and shallot. What does this mean? Should we cut the peak leaf as soon as it shows or just let it grow?

    I swear garlic is like one of the best superfood plants. You can eat almost all parts of it, and it boosts your immune system. Garlic scapes is so good stir fried with some thinly sliced meat and soy sauce.

    • @HenSt-gz7qj
      @HenSt-gz7qj ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just stir fry them with other veggies like asparagus, potato, or eggplant. Just a bit of salt, pepper, herbs, and tomato paste (home-made) to finish the dish.

    My SO and his family have a great garden patch & they grow garlic every year but didn’t know about garlic scapes. This year I showed them a couple videos about them so my SO & I harvested them & turned some into pickles, they are so good, we want to make more. And I’m excited to see how big the garlic comes out this year.

    Do you start your garlic in the late fall and overwinter it, or do you start it in the spring? Our garlic harvest was less than impressive this year (size wise), and I can't attribute that solely on when we planted, but I do believe that probably has a pretty significant impact on the size of the bulbs. Am I correct in this assumption?
