My first time growing watermelon and didn't realize i had to pollinate them, I just pollinated this morning hopefully i see some results soon. Thank you for sharing your progress a d knowledge. Have a blessed day!
I didn't know about hand pollination either, but I have a couple watermelons in my one plant anyway. I wonder if it's because I have so many bees that visit my backyard.. so I didn't need to
Just a hint. If you want plenty of melons and have more space, don't take off the side shoots. Then you will have more melons than what you'll need for the season
My mum always tells me it is impossible to grow melons like Honeydew, watermelon, etc. in hot weather country like Malaysia saying it will not be sweet. Now I can show her that it can be done.
This is the best news! I'm in Hawaii, and mine seems to be growing pretty well. I just saw the very first tendrils yesterday. Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come!@@TonysExploration

Could you write a complete guide on fertilising sugar baby watermelon? Like when to start fertilising, how often, and the amount/volume of fertiliser solution used each time? Thanks in advance
Well, important is the soil pH or the fertiliser solution pH must be around 6-6.5. The fertilizer I use is (A) YARA Kristalon Red NPK 12:12:36 + (B)Yara Calcinit 15.5% N + 26.3% CaO. Make the fertilizer into a stock solution A and B . Mix with equal ratio and dilute to EC 1.5 when first transplanting. Increase the EC 0.2 every week until. Capped at EC3.1 for the remaining season. You need to invest in the EC meter if using liquid fertilizer. Else and compound fertilizer with lower N, higher P and K will do. For the volume, that is really need observation, because the weather, sunny ,cloudy or raining all make the differences.
Hello, sorry, I have a question that I can ask you if my watermelon does produce flowers, but you don't believe the watermelon and as the days go by the flowers turn black, my question is what can I do, and What fertilizer do you recommend for my plant of Watermelon

Full sun, that is a must. The fertilizers follow the label , each brand has different strengths...but more importantly is using low nitrogen , high in P n K . Watering is very morning, then again , the volume is much depend on yr site weather. You need to adjust accordingly.
I never give any instructions on watering all my videos , simply because this watering is very much dependent on the weather and where you stay. The golden rule is always the same , keep the medium moist. The amount and interval is based on your judgement.
very interesting video. One thing that I'm curious about, is the need for the watermelon plants to have support for the melons. These were small enough that they seemed to be okay hanging with vine support, but many watermelons are so large it seems they need some sort of netting to hold them up or else they will break off the stem, is this true? The Sugar babies are nice enough sized that they seem to hold up without netting or support. I'm curious also if with enough fertilizer/neutrients, if we need to cut off the side branches, thus reduces total yield of our fruits? I've always heard of people saying to cut off extras in order to produce more energy for the fruits, but if the plant has enough energy to do everything then I don't see why not. Usually it's a trade of how much energy the plant can get, vs how much output, but if we are getting rid of leaves that would absorb energy, then wouldn't it be beneficial to keep them, if' there's enough nutrients being given to the plant?
Well, baby melons is not that heavy, simple trellis will be able to support the weight. For big melon, just let it run on the ground. Baby melon is okay to have 2-3 per plant , you won't have any degradation in quality or size...Theoretically, yes, if pinch-off method does help to maximize the size. My observation is that more leaves don't mean more energy given to the fruits, even given enough fertilizer.... because more energy is driven to make more leaves and more stems...If you start to reduce the leaves...then the excess nutrient has no way to go...thus all energy channels to the fruits.....Some plants, if you reduce all the leaves at once, it tricks the plant that he going to die...thus quickly producing flower and fruits...after all...all plants pass down the gene and offspring via seed(fruits) before dying.
@@TonysExploration good to know that the melons are small enough to not need much support. Also, I love the idea of growing them in a pot vertically as well. Do you prune the main stem once you have two little melons on each plant?
Im posting this comment in hopes of getting help. Ive planted seeds in seconf half of May. Seeds have germinated and every plant has formed few leaves but they seem wringled and underdeveloped, only 1 or 2 leaves are good per plant. They are planted in 30L pot per 2 plants. Since ive planted them we had really heavy weather, lots of rain but pots are drilled at the bottom so water escapes really quickly. Im wondering did too much rain caused them to somewhat die. Leaves did not fall off nor grow any larger for 1 month and im wondering can i do anything to save them. Seems like they just stuck in vegetative state. Each pot haves “compost container” in wich i throw spoiled strawberries and strawberry leaves wich im also growing rather sucsessfully in hopes of generating food for watermelon but nothing seems to help.
Base on your description, I can roughly guess is due to the mosaic virus. Try to Google image if this fit your description. The mosaic virus will cause stunted growth, yellow spotted leaves and wringles. This virus transmitted by pest especially white fly
Nice technique. I subscribed immediately. But how many fruits produced per plant? Again why pruning the side shoots instead of the main stem as other videos I have watched which will allow 3 branches? Thank you!
Is not a golden rule...mainly because I use pot, keep better ventilation, and I always want the melon to achieve to its biggest potential size. Actually i do keep a plant that have multiple melons per plant....it still works.

@@anonymousf454 For this variety , well 2-3 per plant, since potted and I want to have bigger size, so i kept to minimum quantity to make sure all the nutrient goes to the melon to maximize the size.

some people say pruning the side vines can lower the sweetness of the fruit because of less leaves and force the plant to focus its energy to recreating more vines instead of energy/nutrient focus going to the fruit. what are your thoughts on this?

probably won’t get a response but worth a try. I’ve been growing a watermelon but the leaves don’t look like the ones in this video. Almost all of them are quite spikey don’t seem as smooth and slightly round as the leaves in this video. This is the case with every other watermelon time lapse video. The flowers and so on are growing and look exactly like the one in the video but the massive difference in how the leaves came out makes me wonder whether I’ve done something wrong.
Well, there are some many types of melon variety and cultivar, if the leaves don't look the same, is perfectly normal. Focus on flower pollination, and check what kind of melon you get! If you have come to flower stage, you are on the right path....all the melons family have similar flower lookalike.
@@TonysExploration Hopefully i’ve managed to explain myself well. The leaves just look crazy spiky and every time I look at them, they just don’t look like what I’ve seen in every watermelon time lapse video. You’d think a good portion of the leaves had been munched away with only the spikes and a bit of leaf left behind. Whereas with yours, they just….look like leaves. My plant has also not gone through the “leaves overflow the pot” stage yet which so many timelapse seem to get through with ease. That said, the flowers are the only things that look anything like the time lapses which is the only hope I’ve managed to hold onto so far. I keep saying that it must obviously be a watermelon plant. I mean, I took the seed from the watermelon and put it in the soil and it grow from where I buried it haha. I keep getting told that the plant just looks like a weed. Hearing that can be discouraging when you’ve never done this before especially when it comes to close relatives and especially when I’m very new to growing fruit in general. Thank you for your comment. I much appreciate it.
I use a tablespool 15ml size and added to a 100ml to become stock solutions for both A n B. Then dilute equal part of A n B untill you get EC1.5 ..you need an EC meter to get accurate reading.
the general rules is to have soil that is make up from top soil (to hold the roots and micronutrient) + compost ( nutrient) + sand for drainage ...this is called potting mix. Some substitute sand with pearlite.
I didnt have to hand pollinate my melons that I have seen so far, is that normal? Ive seen some bee friends going from flower to flower, and its actually helped tons cause a. I dont have to be terrified of a random bug coming at me, b. I dont have to do the work c. its cool to see nature doing its thing. I have so many cantaloups, and one big sugar baby growing, the others are a little bit smaller but im still really happy they are all growing! Not to mention my tomatoes are coming out of their little shells, and my red peppers are starting to grow flowers😲this is like my first time ever gardening, and there's so many melons and plants, so I am trying to learn as much as I can
@@TonysExploration Yeah they are growing really big, I just dont know if I should put them vertically, it feels messy when I go to look and water them, and i cant weed easily, I havent been able to since a while ago since theres so many leaves and stems. im afraid that something will happen if I put it verticle since there is already melons about a tennis ball or bigger growing, but it just feels so messy with how many are growing, and the space inside the raised garden feels like its getting to small😞
@@Ariel-lol , the stems very fragile and probably entangle each other. Let it be. Next season, you have can start again with better proper planning and build the trellis first.
Hey i planted seeds on 7 April and on 11 may only male flower bloom yet. And leaves are getting sick ( yellow spots) . I m afraid that once all turn yellow, my all work in planting it = 0 🥺😕. What to do? And what kind of fertilizer do I have to use and how often?
Need to diagnose why yellow spot in a month. Is it a raining season, any Whitefly pest that carry the mosaic virus. Check the soil pH. Is very hard to diagnose here base on description...the best way is always observe and learn and replant again
Very hard to tell by. Count by days only make sense if you have done it before. ... different region and weather all will impact . Guess you need to make a wild guess by looking at the melon colour...and smell it.

Pollination is necessary???
Pollination is mandatory or else it won’t fruit unless you have tons of flowers and bees you have to
Do it manually
Do the plants need to be spaced
Ya , if can should be better
Super helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What size Pot did you use?
5 gallon pot size
Can we eat this?
Of course 😌
How many grams do you use Yara AB fertilizer you need to get EC 1.5 for 1 litre of water?
I use a tablespool 15ml size and added to a 100ml to become stock solutions for both A n B. Then dilute equal part of A n B untill you get EC1.5 ..you need an EC meter to get accurate reading.
I cried a little bit at the end
Oh dear...is all right
THEY NEED SUNLIGHT OR KEEP IN COOL PLACE??
The more sun ,the better
Awesome, awesome. I planted different types day 7 now
great job!
Does it take about 75 days
هل البذور المستخدمة f1؟
Yes, I am using F1 seed. That is an important step to ensure you have a quality breed.
Do you water them every day and what times are best
Morning the best time. Everyday since I using the pots. The amount I adjust accordingly to the weather
How did you attach the branches to the sticks?
Actually I tie a string from the top and the main stem just climbed and wrapped around the string
@@TonysExploration Thank you
Hey what type of sand u r using ??? I have red colour sand … can u tell me how to make these type of soil at home
the general rules is to have soil that is make up from top soil (to hold the roots and micronutrient) + compost ( nutrient) + sand for drainage ...this is called potting mix. Some substitute sand with pearlite.
It is amazing video 🥰
btw how big your pot size to grow this watermelon?
15 inch diameter and 12 inch deep
@@TonysExploration in your mom
What type of soil do you use
Just normal gardening soil, but rich in compost
I didnt have to hand pollinate my melons that I have seen so far, is that normal? Ive seen some bee friends going from flower to flower, and its actually helped tons cause a. I dont have to be terrified of a random bug coming at me, b. I dont have to do the work c. its cool to see nature doing its thing.
I have so many cantaloups, and one big sugar baby growing, the others are a little bit smaller but im still really happy they are all growing! Not to mention my tomatoes are coming out of their little shells, and my red peppers are starting to grow flowers😲this is like my first time ever gardening, and there's so many melons and plants, so I am trying to learn as much as I can
Wow, I can imagine all your crops are growing wells
Leave it to the nature , if you have bees helping you.
Hi sir so I can replace petite instead of sand to mix in soil?
as long as the pH is correct.
🥰nice video
Thank you, happy Gardening
You have to make another one it's SOO good :) (the vid)
Thank you for watching!
Nice 😍😍😍
Won’t you get more melons if you leave all the shoots? You only get one melon per?
yes it is possible to get more melon if have more shoots. I just want to have the biggest melon, so I kept one.
I didn’t track the days to know when sugar baby is ripe. How else can I tell. There is not a trendil left nearby it either.
Very hard to tell by. Count by days only make sense if you have done it before. ... different region and weather all will impact . Guess you need to make a wild guess by looking at the melon colour...and smell it.
Mantap sekali ,simpel tapi hasil
Terima kasih krn sudi menonton
