  • danscourses.com - Subscribe Today! In part 2, I demonstrate how to configure a Cisco 1941 router with routable IPv6 global unicast addressing in order to allow communication between two IPv6 networks. Topics that are covered are IPv6 addressing, abbreviation, global unicast addressing, and SLAAC auto configuration. The tutorial is designed for beginners who are new to IPv6.
    The tutorial is done using the new Packet Tracer 6.0 and corresponds to the Cisco CCNA 5.0 curriculum.

    As you said, I really have problem with IPv6 Gateway. It disappeared.
    I couldn't understand why. But I switched Auto Config and Static checkboxes once and again and it is working! Ping is running through the Router! Thank you!

    I could not see global unicast address that was auto-configured on terminal on PC by typing ipconfig /all.
    Anyone had this problem???
    my topology looks exactly same as this video's and pinging works just fine.
    is this a bug on Packet Tracer??

    Hi.
    My question is which one is my real gateway?
    FE80::1 ?
    or
    2001:DB8:AAAA:A::1?
    In ipv4 we configure the router interface by gateway address. Please clarify to me it will help me a lot.

    Hello, I've got a question. I configure the interface g0/0 with 2001:DB8:ACAD:A::1/48 address and now I would like to assign 2001:DB8:ACAD:B::1/48 address to the interface g0/1, but every time I want to do that I receive the following information "R1(config)#interface g0/1
    R1(config-if)#ipv6 address 2001:DB8:ACAD:B::1/48
    %GigabitEthernet0/1: Error: 2001:DB8:ACAD::/48 is overlapping with 2001:DB8:ACAD::/48 on GigabitEthernet0/0".
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Nice Tutorial
    Just a tip for everybody
    9:02 - instead of copying the the link-local address from the IP configuration window then converting it to global unicast you can just type ipconfig on the command prompt and copy the global unicast address from there.

    Why is the default gateway the routers Local Link address and not the routers interface ipv6 address?

      I think because you are only going across that Routers so it can use its link local. if you had more than 1 router. ud need to have a global uni-cast address on the router's interface and use that as a DF for your pc to Route traffic.

    Dan your a ip master and great teacher to many who just don't get it.. I have been waiting for IPv6 to be common for a long time but I guess the mainframe cannot employ and deploy it until nsa has fully made IPvX or IPv6.6.6 right kmt. ....

    thanks for this! quick question for you, in a real world scenario.. could the gateway for the PCs be EITHER the link local address on the router interfaces OR the global unicast address on the router interface? Was a bit confused when i saw that the gateway for the PCs was still the link local address even though the global unicast had been configured, was expecting the gateway to be the global unicast address on each router interface.
    cheers

    I have a question. I have a Cisco Nexus to configure. Do you need to use the same commands in order to configure ipv6 or you need other ones to use in it?

    i believe all network statements in ipv6 arent required like they were with rip/eigrp/ospf in ipv4, it will automatically add and share the networks without the "network" command in router mode. though static routes still play a big part.
