Wow... I walked in knowing that IPV6 was 128 bits in length, and I walked out knowing how to address and subnet hosts, as well as route between networks. Best spent 15 minutes of my day today.

Thank you Dan. I am a student studing network subject. One comment is that after follow the clip, no IPv6 Address appeared in Command Prompt of each PC. The cause of this is Config of each PC is set Gateway/DNS IPv6 to Static, after set it to Automatic. It gets IPv6 Address and Default Gateway. Cheer! :)

I don't understand why the getway is link local despite you assigned global unicast address in the router ?

Thank you so much Dan. I am preparing my CCNA 200-301 and this video is just what I needed to further understand IPv6 and how to configure them. Thanks again.

So I've managed to get the pc to connect to webpage on a generic server by using the server's ipv6 address. However, I'm trying to get DNS to allow me to type "cisco.com" and return the website on the ipv6 address.

I'm sorry about my ignorance, but what's difference between:
    ipv6 address FR80::1 link-local
    and
    ipv6 addres ... EUI-64?

Thank you for the awesome lesson. But, I was not able to ping from host A to host B. When ping, it says "unreachable host". Is this because each PC host doesn't have a gateway setup?

hy, the ipv6 gateway of a host is the link-local adress of the router interface connected to the host "sh ipv6 int br" and you will see the link-local adress to set it up on the host gateway

thanks! helped out alot, just a hint i picked up along the way:
if you arent able to ping the first time, check the pc config. even if it is selected on auto-config, unless the gateway is there, its meaningless haha:)

Just to complete my intervention : I asked the author why "ipv6 enable" is not mentionned in the official cert guide. He told me that this command is not necessary once "ipv6 address ..." has been configured for a given interface on real Cisco hardware. "ipv6 enable" is just a way to enable ipv6 on an interface without assigning yet an ipv6 address. Conclusion : PT doesn't exactly work like real IOS router in this case.

Great Tutorial, But I had to enable ipv6 on both interfaces of the router. If you don`t do this, the PC`s cannot configure ipv6 automatic. The extra command that must be executed on both interfaces is: ipv6 enable

Very nicely show there Dan , as always you explain these types of things very easy . Like it better than it is show in NetAcad . Lets me get playing with it in packet tracer myself.

Hello, Great tutorial/teacher. I am having trouble with the autoconfig. I have tried Anthony Winters suggestion but still no success.
I am trying to configure it manually now, but im not sure how to determine the gateway address, how would you go about this (if possible)

    Great Video Dan!!!
Any hopes in creating a video on nat64? to translate IPv6 to IPv4?

Thanks for the tips, I was starting to break my nerves on my PT. The interface subcommand "ipv6 enable" is not mentionned either in the new Official Cisco Cert Guide for ICND1.
