Loved what you did with some small pieces of wood. You have given me inspiration to make some of my own with all the scrap wood I have in my woodshop.

If you use the HOT IRON technique, you will see no bubbles, no wrinkles and it will be smooth as silk. I have also used a water-based top coat such as Minwax or Varithane. There are several UTube videos/tutorials out there that show you exactly how to do it. This does work best on flat surfaces since you are using an iron.
I personally use Mod Podge between wood and decoupage paper and then I top coat it with a water based top coat vs Mod Podge. When I use the water based top coat, I let it dry really well on its own and I don't have to iron out the bubbles or wrinkles.

First! Sounds wonderful. Did you measure the edges so the exposed wood is an even amt or balanced? I'm a little ocd.

Thanks for your comment! When we traced the outlines of the wooden houses, we used a ruler to mark where to cut on the wood panel. You can use a miter saw or jigsaw to cut the shapes out. We have done both. The Miter saw is preferred for straighter quick cuts, but sometimes the wood panel you may use to cut from won’t really allow you to use a miter saw, being to large or maybe oddly shaped. In this case we used a jigsaw.
If you’re referring to the process of cutting out the paper with the decorative scissors, MJ just traced the house outline and then when cutting, made sure to cut on the inside of the line. She didn’t measure the distance from the edges of the paper to the outside of the wood, mainly because she was going for a rustic look. You can definitely measure and then cut if you really want it to be perfectly even from all edges. Hope this helps out! -Alex

House are cute, but I'm crazy about the bunnies sitting on the table beside you.

I don't know if you know about the HOT IRON way of decoupaging. I use it all the time.
Spread the Mod Podge on the wood.
Let it dry or use blow dryer to speed up the drying time.
Set the iron on highest temperature, (No steam; NO WATER IN IRON).
Place decoupage paper/napkin on wood with dry Mod Podge & then on top of that, place a piece of brown paper bag to cover project & iron away. Keep iron moving all over the project.
Pull back brown paper to check to make sure decoupage paper is adhered everywhere.
Apply Mod Podge on decoupage paper again, let it dry on its own & once it's dry, place brown paper bag on project again & iron. Keep iron moving all over the project.

Thank you so much! I will try this on my next project. Those little bubbles are a nuisance. I appreciate the time you took to give such easy directions.
