MrEeeaddict if you stay anywhere near the borders of Detroit it's high as hell. Like higher than anywhere else in the nation. Other than that as long as you have a good driving record it's descent.
You want to know why it had 360,000 miles on it and it looked like new? The owner didn't do dirt burn outs or take it to a field the first day he got it and jerked it around.
How big are insurance costs in USA? Cuz in Poland is the main reason why we don't have more than 7-8 cars in collection.. especially now, insurence went up 20-30%, it's ridiculus, for example, you're buying a 5k $ car, and insurance is about 800$.. that almost 15% of the car!
For two 4-door cars that are 7 years old we pay $177.00 USD a month full coverage. No tickets or accidents, no driving drunk on our records.. Costs go way upwards if you do have a bad record.
Shelby_Protin we also have liability insurance which only covers other people's vehicles in an accident not yours. My liability insurance on my Acura TL was like 50 bucks a month but it was only worth 2k so if it was totaled no biggie. The more vehicles you have the cheaper it is
From what I've learned in my college course, it's because you need to give the engine time to circulate the oil. When an engine sits for a very long time, the film of oil that usually remains in the cylinders is lost. You need this film to prevent too much friction when starting up a engine.ALSO, modern vehicles (I think like 90s+) have computers that control many variables in the car such as ignition timing, air/fuel ratio, brakes, e.t.c. They "learn" overtime what values work the best in certain conditions, they even adjust to the way you drive. When a battery goes under a certain voltage (is dead) the memory of the computer dies with it, thus it has to learn everything again. It's probably not the best idea to give the engine only 1.2 seconds to "learn" how to idle correctly. Let alone revving the shit out of it.Could you imagine waking up out of bed for work with your dick on fire? That's probably how the jeep feels lol.
I have a 2wd version of this Jeep that I got for free with 180k. It's one of the best cars I have ever had and by far the easiest and cheapest to work on.
I got one of these as my first car and I absolutely love it! I've had it for almost a year now and I have no complaints... Other than the gas millage of course! They're super easy to work on, fun to drive, awesome off road, super reliable, and cheap. Mine is a '99 and it's basically a baby with only 172,000 miles.
You seem to have added a "the" in your sentence, take it out and your sentence is true. Just kidding! I had an '86 two-door that I beat to s**t, but it was still running when I sold it!
My wife bought me one years ago, that I picked out, for Valentine's day. I thought it was a wreck. A toy I'd keep for a year and have to get towed away when something catastrophic went wrong. That was over four years ago.
300 bucks is steal. the straight 6 is built like a tank & very easy to work on, and hell it does not even look like its even burning oil. Heck you can even find 4.0 engines with low mileage for a few hundred bucks then install it and bam now the re-salve value is way over 2k. Someone looking to build a cheap off-road trail rig would gladly pay 2k for that . Steam clean that engine and underneath detail it completely that jeep will look like new.
Aviator Guy No trail rig. These things are getting harder and harder to find bone stock that have been well taken care of. I know they're not extinct, but like the '80s - '90s Toyotas, Nissans, Grand Wagoneers, etc, people like me would pay top dollar for a well cared for stock example of one of these beasts, and keep it stock. Never run it hard or abuse it, just drive it. I don't have an issue with people who actually put dedication into their rigs without welding some hideous attachment to it, rattle-canning it matte black or camo, or chopping the top off then beating the snot out of it for no reason. A couple years back my friend bought a 1985 Toyota Pickup with 160k on it for $1,500. Standard equipment: 22re straight 4 with a 5 speed, long bed regular cab, blue, 1 owner, bone stock. Had regular rust in the regular places, not too bad. 2 months later he rips the bed off and replaces it with plywood, sprays the engine bright orange, rips out all the interior trim, spray paints it 5 shades of some ugly gray color, and later cracked the block for running it too hard. Now I'm trying to find one that's in mint condition and baby the shit out of it. Really bothers me when people treat vehicles that could take them several hundred-thousand miles like garbage. But like I said, if you wanna build some kind of trail rig or crawler, just do it right or don't do it at all.
Spooky there's a bit of luck tossed in there too. Yes he's a professional with contacts and the ability to go to auctions but there's always a bit of a gamble buying a car that doesn't run with that kind of mileage on it.
took 2 weeks, but someone finally got my comment... "Bottom Feeder Motorsports is the home of one of the most unique monster trucks in the history of monster trucks, Crushtation."
do you know that monster trucks are one of many reason the rest of the world thinks u guys are coco crazy in the same time we say at least they make fucking comfy bulletprove every day work trucks so never mind
its the 4.0 and as far as i know they came in auto only, the the xj anyway . although i think the wrangler got a 4.0 with manual so a manual for the 4.0 is out there
Nice. Im the second owner of a white 4x4 '98 Limited Cherokee with, leather power seats, overhead console and wood grain trim. It has 53k original miles. Looks exactly the same.
Solid choice! My 99 Jeep Cherokee has 275,000 miles on the original drivetrain, has never broken in a way that I couldn't fix on the side of the road! My dad originally bought it in 2001.
I can’t get enough of these old Jeeps. It’s a real Jeep at that. 2006 was when Jeep went to crap. You just can’t beat that 4.0 inline. You can put loads and loads and loads of miles on them and they never die.
0:45 ugh, when will people stop making this mistake? the voltage required to start the battery is much greater than the voltage required to make some dash lights turn on. you NEED a volt meter
Ryukachoo This Cherokee had a volt meter and its saying 12Volts. . . so yeah, you're not wrong but in this case it's still obvious that it's not a dead battery.
Ryukachoo the volts will be enough to light up a few electric bill but it will need a lot of AMPS to turn an engine. Power = Volts x Amps. Volts is the difference between the two terminals in levels of electron attraction. 12 Volts is the difference on a car battery. 110/220 is common for home voltage. Amps is the number of hard working electrons trying to get from one terminal to the other. The more of those electrons you have, the higher the amps, and it's the amps that do the real heavy work. The volts is just the difference between the terminals. Batteries run out of Amps, but the volts are often still 12v even when they are nearly flat (out of Amps).
Should be a set of 4 obviously, but you nearly wouldn't be able to get a pair for for that price :P It's a bit exaggerated, you can get cheap wheels but a decent car, a 4x4? lol for that price? yeah as a R/C toy car for that price ;) I'm pretty sure it's impossible to find a car here for less than 1000$ if you want it to be legal on the road of course. And not break down after 2 corners ;)
this was my first jeep. a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic Pearl.. I got it for 3500 as a gift from my dad. and drove it for 2 years and sold it for 5500. now I have a 40k Wrangler Unlimited! I love jeeps. Best car to start off with! I'm 21 so I have many years more of Jeep.
my parents bought one for my oldest brother when he was 16 years old my middle brother used the Jeep Cherokee as his first vehicle then like five six years later I also used it as a first vehicle what an awesome truck we were thinking of getting rid of it and wait until it fell apart and it never did we never change the oil for like two three years I'm not joking we just added new bottles when the old oil evaporated we ended up driving it to the junkyard and me doing a smoke show for the last time it's heart was still beating very strong even when we brought it to the cemetery the junkyard it wouldn't give up that's a Chrysler
those things have aged really well, thats a pretty good looking car, and its amazing that that thing has 360k, it looks REALLY clean, the owner must have taken really good care of it, shame its a slushbox
I paid $500 for a '94 Jeep Cherokee 4dr 4x4. Runs like an absolute dream. Brakes a little meh. Has rust underneath but up above is fine. And a crack in the windshield. Could not be happier.
The wires that run from the top of the hatch into the body also have a tendency to snap so if your rear defroster or rear wiper stop working, the cause could be the wires in that area.
FUN FACT Mr. Ed the talking horse in a TV series than ran from 1958 to 1966. Put peanut butter on the horses gums to make him appear he was talking. I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee I bought for $600. It has 225,000 miles and runs perfect and burns a quart of oil every 3,000 miles. Best car I've ever owned.
Tyler: On 4.0 litre XJ's the starter is located directly beneath the engine oil filter / oil filter adapter. When changing the oil filter place a plastic grocery bag around the starter to prevent oil from soaking it. Additionally, if equipped with one (I believe all years do, but not 100% sure) the engine oil filter adapter has rubber O rings (three) which can leak oil on the starter. There's a replacement O ring kit from Chrysler; it's a relatively simple DIY fix.
I picked up my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic with 150k miles for $500. Only issues was the crank sensor replaced in 20min and the driver door needed welding. So had the area of concern plated and fabricated on all for doors to eliminate future failures. This i got done through a friend for $50 bucks and a good old 12pk.
Oh man, I am sooo jealous !!!! I have always wanted one of these but around here those later models still go for more than I'd like to pay. Congratulations on your buy. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.
I'm currently looking at a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee we'll be going over tonight to test drive the lady that owns it says that it has a death wobble which means the front end is probably going to cost me at least a thousand bucks keep going on your videos sounds like I'm about to become a Jeep owner thanks again
That's one CLEAN Cherokee. It looks immaculate/ no rust. What part of the States did it live? Has it held up mechanically for the last 10 months? Great buy.
in Michigan this jeep would be rusted out and beat to shit and they would want like 5 grand
matt denny this jeep in Michigan the way it is, even with those miles, would be about 5 grand.
sounds like Canada!
MrEeeaddict Michigan, Canada...tomAto-tomato....same thing lol
Pretty close, how much is insurance down there?
MrEeeaddict if you stay anywhere near the borders of Detroit it's high as hell. Like higher than anywhere else in the nation. Other than that as long as you have a good driving record it's descent.
You want to know why it had 360,000 miles on it and it looked like new? The owner didn't do dirt burn outs or take it to a field the first day he got it and jerked it around.
Who cares what other people do with it send ittt I don’t think dirts gonna hurt the Jeep take mine trail riding all the time still looks minty
I have 411 thousand miles on my 98 Jeep Cherokee XJ
Devin Wise buddy of mine sends his and runs like it is brand new and I’m currently building mine
@@shanemunhofen4660 nice!
Somehow the terrible 90s game show music works.
Right? Its like some motor-trend synth intro, its great!
Mark Whitfield
It's almost as good as the intro to motorweek retro reviews!!
Hoovies garage is seriously must see TV here in Tulsa!
The best car on this channel that makes since.
Mark Whitfield mn
since ??
That interior is in remarkable condition for a $300 Cherokee with 300K+ miles on it.
What little we saw of it, anyway.
I think there's even a speaker on the ceiling in the very back
Gray S. it has that saggy roof old cars seem to get though
Oven Proof yeah my cherokee has dual speakers mounted in the roof of my cargo bay, as far as I know, all XJs do but dont quote me on it.
The interior has been replaced as you can see @ 1:35 it's a Lincoln seat
That car looks brand new!
The starter didn't though...
MY DODGE 97 HAS 163K MILES ALL RUST ALL OVER
DODGE CHRYSLER ARE SHIT
wash it occasionally, stay out of salt baths and get the damn
thing oiled every fall and spring.try this with your next rolling turd.
"get it oiled"? can you explain
777jones undercoating to prevent rust.
I'm so frigging jealous! Nevermind the purchase price, that thing would cost me like 3k in taxes and insurance before I even took it home!
Adriano's Classic 500 lol it's only a little inline 6
I am jealous as hell as well...

Why do people feel the need to rev an engine that hasn't started in forever and isn't warmed up? As an engineer, I cringe.
winterloggan to keep it running......?
winterloggan you’re not alone. It makes me cringe too.

It'll be fine.
It’s 4.0 Jeep engine, it will be fine
You're quickly becoming one of my favourite TH-camrs! Keep up the good work!

Yes! Keep up the good work!
don't trash this one ok
Heheeeee
Congratulations on finally getting a reliable vehicle.

no,its not burning oil because its all gathered up on the starter
XJ's are just getting warmed up at 360k, enjoy!
1nnu3ndo not true but whatever maybe if we were talking about a chevy 250 i6, ford 300 i6, or a 7.3
Really?
Meldins STI any sane person would take a 4.0 over any of those engines
Looks like I need to end up at dealer auctions, I've been looking for a good Cherokee for under 2k, people in my area are aware of their value sadly.
And a Segway still costs thousands of dollars... phshh!
Here in my country you can only get a Honda 70cm3 motorcycle for barely $300.....let alone a big and heavy Jeep.. You are very lucky with that car.
Salman Ahmed this never happens in America either, he's lucky for anyone
he is not lucky he is professional
Spooky there's a bit of luck tossed in there too. Yes he's a professional with contacts and the ability to go to auctions but there's always a bit of a gamble buying a car that doesn't run with that kind of mileage on it.
annoying commenter yes it does, a non running keep with 300000 miles is relatively common but for 300. Given he did have access to the dealer auction
Ask him how much he paid in buyer fees at the auction
I love the 90's music you add to all your videos.
is that a starter, or a sea crushtation...lol
*crustacean
i googled it i got a monster truck lol
took 2 weeks, but someone finally got my comment...
You might want to address the "slight" oil leak. That starter had more oil on it than an entire body builder's contest. Lol
Nice way better than Cleetus's $400 Honda
Jimmy Grant And this is an American unlike his Honda. it deserves a Bald Eagle mural on the Hood.
Connor Davila true I'd buy this for $1,000 even with the miles on it if it ran good and was a manual
its the 4.0 and as far as i know they came in auto only, the the xj anyway . although i think the wrangler got a 4.0 with manual so a manual for the 4.0 is out there
Not true. You could get the AX-15 five speed manual in the XJ with the 4.0.
oh my mistake then, i think the majority that made it the uk where auto
AMC's 4.0L inline 6 is a champ. It's got amazing reliability, great torque, and easy to fix.
Ill buy it for $401!
out of all the car oriented channels, yours has so far been the most satisfying and entertaining to watch. good job & keep making videos!
your videos are the best
I grew up in Wichita. Watching your videos makes me proud of my hometown. Keep up the great work!
Now you've got to see if you can get to 400k.
Million Mile Jeep?
That'd be a hell of a stretch. He's got so many other vehicles to put miles on.
Is that Tyler Hoover's million mile Jeep?
1980's isuzu trooper II, most iconic suv I remember
The wizard before he was the wizard lol
Nice. Im the second owner of a white 4x4 '98 Limited Cherokee with, leather power seats, overhead console and wood grain trim. It has 53k original miles. Looks exactly the same.
In my country with 300$ (euros here) you could get 2 doors of that jeep.
Solid choice! My 99 Jeep Cherokee has 275,000 miles on the original drivetrain, has never broken in a way that I couldn't fix on the side of the road! My dad originally bought it in 2001.
Wow, good find :) Looks like our boss has a new video, so I'll go watch that now :)

Have you considered 24 hours of lemons with that Jeep? Your videos are awesome, keep 'em coming!
My first car when I turned 16 was an 87 Cherokee. I kept her for 8 years and loved every minute of it.
A horse is a horse of course of course
A new car every week! This is a great channel!!
This is a good buy!
this was my first jeep. a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic Pearl.. I got it for 3500 as a gift from my dad. and drove it for 2 years and sold it for 5500. now I have a 40k Wrangler Unlimited! I love jeeps. Best car to start off with! I'm 21 so I have many years more of Jeep.

Lucky! What a clean Jeep. I wish I could find such a steal.
supercharge it
I think nitro is closer to the price bracket lol
Not with 360k on it.
Travis Whatsittoya I know right, you'd pretty much killed that engine at that mileage.😖
+Bernadin Dice Exactly ;)
good entertaimment for us though
I also have a 1998 jeep Cherokee sport. I got it for 1700 with about the same mileage on it. Best vehicle I've ever owned. I love my jeep

Edward Koepke that's what happens when you go to the dealer. My mustang gt may be a pig but parts are cheap

Those inline 6 4.0 liters are beasts! and mine only has 99k miles. Not even broken in yet. (2004 wj) That Cherokee still looks great!
I have this Jeep Cherokee sport 275k paid 1500$ 4 yrs ago. Still going strong 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼. Best Jeep/car I EVER HAD.
Great purchase. I love the Jeep XJ's. I've owned 3 of them in my time.
Love your videos man. Pretty entertaining
I love auctions i got a 1999 cherokee too and i love it old is gold
I picked up my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic with 150k miles for $500. Only issues was the crank sensor replaced in 20min and the driver door needed welding. So had the area of concern plated and fabricated on all for doors to eliminate future failures. This i got done through a friend for $50 bucks and a good old 12pk.
That thing is in amazing condition for the miles! Wow.
Awesome video!, sold my '98 2wd this year, miss it

That's one CLEAN Cherokee. It looks immaculate/ no rust. What part of the States did it live? Has it held up mechanically for the last 10 months? Great buy.
