I can't say enough about how helpful the Yarnsub website is for substituting yarns. It can really help with the yarn budget or for knitting down your stash. Thank you for doing something similar with your own patterns. That's really an extra, thoughtful touch on already really great patterns.
I have been knitting for years but for some reason, your explanation was the first one that clicked, regarding positive ease and fit. Thank you so much!
Your videos are always a great start to my Fridays! I think your advent spin is beautiful and the gradient ply would be lovely. The button band pickup ratio was so helpful.
I personally would DEFINITELY want to do that second layout for ur HHF spin !!! Then the whole skein would kind of be one long gradient , and I LOVE IT when skeins look like that ! Cheers + I love ur moon mint !!!
For yarn substitutions: I tried to post a link for a yarn substitution website but it doesn’t post so I’m guessing that’s prohibited? 🤷♀️ If you google yarn substitution there is a major website that will come up, usually first, that will give you alternatives and rate how closely they match your original with a number of data points (fiber content, yardage, weight, etc) and give you a percentage as to how closely it is.
I did the same thing. I tried to post the yarn sub website. I have used it a few times and It is pretty good. The only downside is that not all yarns are on their list.
For choosing a size when upper bust is significantly smaller than bust (>5cm/2" difference), it can be worth choosing a size based more off the upper bust because it will fit your shoulders and frame better and you won't feel like you're 'swimming' in your sweaters so much. One Wild Designs have a blog post or two talking about this which you might find helpful.
Ii have yet to do a button band except for something I made for my granddaughter 15 years ago. I will tuck the ratio info and the yarn substitution ideas in my knitting log! Maybe the ratio is included in your patterns? Thank you for all your teaching and welcome to Michigan from another Michigander!
I finished a sweater. It’s love it! I’m ripping out up to the collar b cause of shoulder fit. I will be happy later. . . Working hard on being happy now
Another great episode, thank you!! I am really interested in the books you talked about in regards to yarn construction but don't see them linked in the notes. Would it be possible to get the name of those titles? Thanks!!
For the person who asked about yarn substitutions……I hear you. I’ve never knit one of Andrea’s patterns and am hesitant to do so because I feel the yarn I can afford won’t look as good and wouldn’t do the pattern justice. Farmers Daughter yarns are expensive and my guess is her collab includes either free or highly discounted yarn. She does include suggested yarn substitutes but none of them have been tested which is unfortunate because there’s still that “will I like it, did I pick the wrong yarn, did I waste my money feeling”.
Loved the second way you set up the bobbins (in threes). Crazy what a difference it made, so beautiful!

I have to tell you, I love your videos. I learn so much from you and the audience. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ply by threes! Love these videos every week!
How about chain plying each bobbin in the order you had them? That would make a great 3ply “gradient “
I have used some of your yarn substitutions with very good success.
Thank you for talking about yarn. Great learning session today!

So helpful for a newish knitter! I too struggle with picking the correct yarn.

WOW! That is a beautiful sweater!!!!!
Thanks Andrea..your advise is always helpful and inspiring..it's always a hard one deciding which size to do! 🎉❤

I love the lighter background wall color as a filming area.❤ I love your 2nd choice for you HHF Advent 3ply.🥰
I vote one big gradient for your spin. I think that would be lovely!
I vote spinning 3 bobbins together, I think you would get more colours that way.😊

17:11 I was yelling ‘experience’ at my iPad 😂
Hi, I am new to your channel! Do you have any videos on hand spinning yarn?
I like you advent ply’s by threes! Just my opinion….
