~Synopsis~
The word itself Xinyao新谣 is shorthand for ‘新加坡年轻人创造的歌谣’. It is a genre of songs that is unique to Singapore, where the songs are composed and sung by young Singaporeans and are usually about life in this small island country. Xinyao (新谣) was a musical movement that
happened in Singapore in the 1980s. Popular with the young adults then, this strain of music featured themes of youth, childhood, friendship, and love, as well as references to Singapore’s history and lifestyle often in a lighthearted manner. This 新谣 Medley features prominent songs from this period, such as 麻雀衔竹枝, 月满抱佳人, and 细水长流, coincidentally all by the same composer, Liang Wern Fook, who is a prominent singer and composer during that era.
新谣，全称为“新加坡年轻人创造的歌谣”，是带有浓厚新加坡本土特色的歌曲创作。新谣运动是在上世纪八十年代兴起的，其作品内容大多反应了年轻人在我们这个小小岛国生活的方方面面，主题包括了歌颂青春、回忆童年、歌赞友谊、爱情，有的作品也以欢愉的曲调诉说新加坡的历史和人民的生活习惯等等。这首新谣串烧囊括了新谣代表作曲家梁文福先生的著名作品，包括了麻雀衔竹枝,月满抱佳人和细水长流。
