Here in the U.K. 5 x 3ml vials or pens of Glargine 100 units/ml cost around £35. Toujeo equivalent is around £65. Considering Toujeo costs double the amount yet it’s 3 times stronger in concentration means it would work out cheaper to prescribe the 300 units/ml. I will be asking my diabetes nurse to prescribe Toujeo when I next see her as I find I’m losing units by leakage when I inject 100 units/ml. I have tried split injections, slow injections and I always keep the needle in-situ for 60 seconds after injecting and I still lose insulin by it leaking out of the injection site (currently on 33 units of Glargine).
@@heypharmacist I'm being told that store the toujeo pen intside fridge...even if we start using it ??? I've heard that insulin must be kept outside at room temperature less than 30 if it is opened.....but I don't know for toujeo...
do people need to increase their dose of toujeo because, according to the package insert, 44% develop anti-drug antibodies (immunity to the insulin)? Is that a concern?
I switched from Lantus to Tresiba after 19 years. Over 1 month using this new insulin I've gained nearly 10kg so I'm over weight even I'm eating plant based food, snacks and fasting.. Nothing helps not even exercise. With Lantus I didn't have this issue. Does Toujeo gains weight?
Maybe the weight gain has to do with your body adjusting to the new insulin and your weight will go back down after a while. I hope so because I am going to be starting on Tresiba soon. I was on Lantus too a few months ago for a few months. On Lantus I was losing my hair and getting bad stomach issues. Good luck.
Nope. After 2 months of using this ready to get back for Lantus. No weight loss at all. Only gaining all even I have reduced everything.. Cannot wait until next week until everything will be back to normal. I used Lantus for 19 years and happy to be back.
You are correct about the high cost compared to the rest of the countries. The reason behind this is the middleman. PBM’s. (Pharmacy benefit manager’s.) Too many hands in the cookie jar. Plus the FDA and regulations need to be a faster process. The slower the process approval the more the drug will cost.
You'd think the diabetes association in the USA would be on this case to make it more affordable for diabetic patients. I've heard that some of the manufacturers of insulin will give people discounts for their insulin. Good luck.
Interesting video. I am on Lantus at 50 units per day. I get pain at injection site. Its burning pain that last for 5 minutes sometime longer. What could be cases this problem?
I'm a diabetes doctor. Have you spoke to your family doctor / diabetes educator? You might be injecting into a lipo area. Try injecting another area. Or try warming up the pen by rolling it in between your hands.
I have had Type 1 Diabetes for 49 years and I have asked the same question... I was told by my Endo that the burning was a difference between your PH level and that of the Insulin PH level. Sorry, I do not know the cure for this.

Great video! I'm a diabetes doc educator! I find Toujeo works quite well for patients who may be less compliant with their therapy.
Thank you so much, comprehensive and to the point at the same time, highly professional and presentable, keep on
Lantus is cheaper as u can add lantus cartilage in all star pen but toujeo cartilage not available in india.
Now you can get easily I am using already - in lucknow India
Love this video! This is super helpful for pharmacy students like me. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Amy. Glad it's helpful!

Can you give me a break down on soliqua
my dad's just got this product toujeo solostar. once he's finish using it, can it be refilled? or have to buy another pen?
Must buy another.

It’s depends on which Insulin you were
using earlier. Your doctors can be the best person to guide.
That makes so much more sense now! I guess the pre-launch marketing confused many pharmacists.
I'm glad this provided you with clarity Renu! Thanks for the comment.
How about the podevta are they the same?

I was recently diagnosed in October . I have gained 23 pounds with treisba and having dry mouth and diaherra. Im switching to lantus
Unfortunately Lantus won't guarantee weight loss. I switched it back from Tresiba and still over weight.
Thanks for explanation .does toujeo only come as a pen .
Thank you. This video was super helpful
Ever wonder why Toujeo is not called Lantus U300?
Same molecule
Insulin cost 10 to 12 times as much in the USA as the rest of the world. 11 dollars per pen most countries.

So if the patient is taking 40 u once a day how many units would they take in toujeo ?
Alejandritaa G. Same 40. The main difference is that Toujeo has more units per milliliter. Toujeo is for patients that use a higher dose of insulin.
1by3

Use a smaller needle 4mm / alternate site / keep out of fridge 5-10 mins prior admin/ injection technique maybe wrong!
@@pybnsk2971 my are warmed to room temperature 24 hrs before and use 4mm/32G. Needle. Still burns.

basaglar the 1 i use
The patient is taking 50U from lantus(100U/ml). When it change to Toujeo (300U/ml), how much the patient should take?
50 units as it's a 1 to 1 switch
Same 50 u bt the difference is that drops of insulin wll b small in toujeo nd patient will feel comfortable.
Are the side effects the same?
Excellent!!!
Great video !
HelloSerg thank you!
toujoe has 10-15% lower bioavailability than lantus this why we need to higher dose when switch pt from lantus to toujeo
When condensing the older glargine molecule, the bioavailability changed. You don’t see this change with Novo Nordisks Tresiba
Ty!
sai sadhu thank you for watching!
Love the video, but more i love the pharmacist girl.
Thanks
