Besides "Texas Flood" at El Mocambo, anything from the SRV and Double Trouble concert at El Mocambo is fire! Always do SRV live. Other songs for reactions include "Love Struck Baby"/"Rude Mood" at Daytona Beach," "Leave My Girl Alone" at Austin, and "Tin Pan Alley" with Johnny Copeland. "Dirty Pool," "Couldn't Stand The Weather," "Testify," "Riviera Paradise," "Ain't Gone and Give Up On Love," "Pipeline" with his brother Jimmy Vaughan, the hilarious music videos of "Superstition" and "Cold Shot," "Mary Had A Little Lamb," "Lenny" which Stevie wrote for his wife Lenora, his acoustic performance on MTV Unplugged, "Look At Little Sister" with a string break and the smoothest guitar swap ever, "Life Without You" at the Capitol Theater where he delivers not only amazing guitar skills and emotional vocals, but a message we all need to heed. The list goes on and on. You can't go wrong with SRV.

I was fortunate enough to see them live 3 times and yes, he's absolutely the GOAT! Something I more recently learned is that while he grew up listening to the blues on the radio, he thought the rhythm and lead guitar parts were played by the same person so he taught himself both parts at the same time. Oh, and he never learned to read music and played strictly by ear! Yep, he's the GOAT!

SRV! THE GOAT, THE LEGEND. He is one of the top three guitarist of all time, its that simple. And he had a tragically short career due to a helicopter crash, and still attained legend status. Actually can't believe you never heard of him. There are plenty of live videos of him to react to thankfully. If his life had not been cut short I'm sure he would still be huge today.

You've likely heard the famous introductory riff either in the video game "Guitar Hero", or at the start of a WWF wrestling match! By SRV himself. Stevie did this as a cover of the original version by Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix is widely considered the guitar GOAT for being so innovative and infusing psychedelic rock into funky blues...but others, myself included, believe SRV is every bit the Legend, and equally the GOAT for his incredible talent & ability to speak the language of Texas blues/rock directly to your soul! He was entirely self taught, revered by masters of the blues, and a quickly rising star with his band Double Trouble...until his sudden death by helicopter crash in 1990 at age 35. Check out Texas Flood live at El Mocambo.

  • @shibolinemress8913
    @shibolinemress8913 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Jimi was one of Stevie's biggest idols. The story I've heard is that he was originally hesitant to cover this song for fear he wouldn't do it justice. Finally he personally asked Jimi's family for permission to try it. Jimi's father gave him his blessing, as well as gifting him Jimi's own wah-wah pedals. (That's what he bent to adjust several times.) What a touching honour that was!
And there was no one more deserving. It's been said that no one else has channelled Jimi like Stevie. You're right; this song alone should have sent him to the Hall of Fame. Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Johnny Copeland and many, many others have said he was the very best of all of them. Tragic that a helicopter crash took him in 1990, at the height of his career. R.I.P., Stevie! 😢
Please do more of him! As good as his studio recordings were, his live performances took everything to a whole new level. He never played any song the same way twice, so check out as many live performances as you can find and pick your favourites. There isn't s bad one among them! And let's not forget his amazing band Double Trouble! Keyboard, bass and drums are out of this world, and worked with him like a well-oiled machine.
He was not nearly as famous in his lifetime as he deserved. Thanks so much for reviewing this and spreading the word to new generations! Keep up the great work!

    Thank you for your reaction!
Of course, you may recall by now, Jimi Hendrix (the greatest guitar player) is the original genius behind that familiar song. There is no doubt Stevie Ray Vaughan is a guitar master himself-and even Jimi would have thought Vaughan’s cover of “Voodoo Child” worthy. I sometimes prefer the SRV’s more energetic and distinct version.
SVR was primarily known for blues style guitar. A classic blues performance of “Texas Flood” is captured at the intimate venue of El Mocombo (Toronto, 1983). th-cam.com/video/KC5H9P4F5Uk/w-d-xo.html
He also does a fine cover of another Hendrix tune (Little Wing) at this same show.
For a nice rhythm-groove song with SVR’s band ‘Double Trouble’, consider “Mary Had A Little Lamb” performed at the same Austin 1989 show as your “Voodoo Child” reaction.
    th-cam.com/video/WWU6hpPJG_c/w-d-xo.html
There are dozens of other worthwhile SRV songs to react to-just make sure you see the LIVE shows. The magic is SVR live

You've never heard of him because he died over 30 years ago.
Stevie began playing guitar when he was 7, after his brother-Jimmie- started to learn at age 10 the year before. Stevie never learned to read music (not sure about Jimmie). What they did do was spend all of their allowance on records, mainly Blues. Stevie didn't know most bands had separate rhythm and lead guitarists, so he learned to play both at the same time.
Both brothers began playing professionally early and both dropped out of school at 17 and moved to Austin, which has arguably the leading live music capitol of the US.
Recommendations: anything from the show you watched (Austin City Limits 1989), Life Without You -Capitol Theater 1985, Pride & Joy in Montreux in 1982. Cold Shot (Official video)- hilarious...the guys really hammed it up and dialed the corniness factor to 11. Everyone had a blast filming this.

That performance was part of a PBS tv show called Austin City Limits. It's possible the crowd was asked beforehand not to scream and yell until the end of each song. I don't know that for sure, just a possibility. Also from that same show you should see Mary Had a Little Lamb, Riviera Paradise, Crossfire, and Look at Little Sister (for the smoothest mid-song guitar change you've ever seen).

This reaction is a year old now, so I'm very much hoping that you've since checked out other live performances by Stevie Ray. His best (although there are no sub-excellent ones) are Pride and Joy, Texas Flood, and Life Without You. I know I'm forgetting some, but you get the idea ... Enjoy!

You can tell it's a Hendrix song by all the reverb, distortion and psychedelic influence. Please don't stop here, many will tell you Texas Flood, but my favorite is "Life Without You" and you're welcome my friend

Some more SRV for you to check out - Texas Flood and Little Wing from the El Mocambo, Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland, Look at Little Sister, where he breaks a string but you'd never know form the performance, and Mary Had A Little Lamb. The last two live from the same show as Voodoo Child in Austin, Texas. Also check out As The Years Go Passing By by Jeff Healey, a blind guitar player who will really blow your mind!!

Jimi Hendrix did the original and performed it at Woodstock. Ste ie worshipped Hendrix. Used to carry a polaroid photo of Hendrix in his wallet. Stevie covered several of Hendrix' songs.

This is Stevie Rays most excellent cover and homage of JIMI HENDRIX' original song.from way back in the day - its also been ripped off by many others for commercial use, wrestling etc. but its JIM HENDRIX song - and nobody covers it with more skill and creativity than SRV.
