That is strange they are all different heights, different shapes concerning the cuts at the neck of each one is very different between them all. I do love hearing that the yarn passes through the throat easily on your first hook… thanks 🙏🏼 again for sharing this great review.
Weren’t some of them ‘second chance’ I took that to mean there were minor defects that made them not pass quality control so were sold at a deep discount.
Remembered, you got a group of Furls that were "seconds". They were not perfect enough, in some way, to be sold at full price. The differences you found in hooks could easily be due to the imperfection. I love Furls, too. I have found that with some yarns, there is a squeak and drag. I switched to a metal hook that worked great.
This. ^ You ordered mystery seconds, which means something is not up to standard on each of them - size, design missing around the size, length, throat depth, even the coloring. Myself, I prefer the wooden Streamlines and the full metal ones. Like needles, some yarns work better with smoother hooks. Try different Furls (metal and wooden) to see a better difference.
Hi Juan. Those Addi hooks look like they may have been redesigned. I may be mistaken, but I think that the neck used to be much shorter. I always felt that they would be uncomfortable to use because of that. They seem a lot more user-friendly with a longer neck. Thanks for the great reviews!
Loved this so much... I have both furls and ophire...i love the ophire so much. I'm going to have to try out one addi swing. Yes i agree on the bevels.. excellent idea. Thank you this was excellent!
Thanks for sharing. I just got my first Furls hook from Michi. Can't wait to try it. I have had Aero knitting needles for years and years and I love them. It looks like their hooks are equally well made.😊
Hi, I just recently found your videos and I have really enjoyed watching you. In your video about reviewing crochet hooks you mentioned Furls, I love Furls hooks so much! Just wanted to let you know that the reason they are a bit different sizes is because the 2nd chance hooks have slight mistakes in the way they were made. But they sell them like that at a discounted price because they are still wonderful hooks and we can still enjoy crocheting with them. Thanks for your awesome videos 😊
I love hook reviews. I've begun purchasing one hook in a size I use often instead of buying sets. God knows I have a plethora a sets, but usually gravitate to 3.5 mm to 7 mm. This has been great information, Juan. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the review, I’m learning so much from you. I must say, I am so relieved to hear that you’re also a fan of what are considered larger hooks. I myself don’t like (using) anything smaller than a “J.” Thanks again friend!!
i am so glad you liked the Milward hooks they are the ones that i learned to crochet on. The older ones were grey in colour but when I learned Milward was really all there was. Thank you for the shout out Juan
Your vintage Aero hooks amused me. I still have the first hook I ever bought - an Aero 4.5mm - in the organizer stand next to me. The grey coating is wearing off a bit, but otherwise it's still perfect (apart from the fact it's too thin for my arthritic fingers now). It's the same design as the ones you have, but is embossed with 'AERO' on one side and just '4.5' on the other. I was a young teen when I got it, so it's nearly 50 years old! I don't even see Aero hooks and needles in the shops anymore - it's all Pony brand now. Regarding the Milward set you bought, they don't look the best quality to me, tbh. I don't like hooks without the bevel, and some of those have almost squared-off tops to them, too - so difficult to push between stitches.
I too still have the very first Aero hook I learnt to crochet with. I learnt to crochet when I was 8 years old (I am now 60). It is a 5.00mm hook - I love it and still use it today. I do have other brands of hook, which I sometimes use, but usually gravitate back to my Aero hooks. I have every size ever made, including the very fine steel hooks for making doilies.
Thanks for the review, Juan, the main reason the 2nd chance (Furls) hooks are different is there is some flaw in them, either color (too much-too little) or they are off size, usually 1/2 a MM bigger or smaller than what the stamping says they are. Also, the cut for the heads may be different. So, you may be taking a gamble on sizes when you order those. I myself don't care for resin or wooden hooks otherwise I would be very temped to get them, I bit the bullet a few years back and got all the metal Odessey hooks even though I had to get them all mixed up color wise, lol.
Thank you, I needed that hook review. I have been thinking about purchasing Furls for my cousin that crochets and myself. This has helped. I think I am going to get us some Mallards too.
Hi Juan 💜😊 I have finished the Moss stitch blanket 🥳 It's on my community post 📯 Hope you like it 🥰🤗 Hope you and Mama Wilma have a great day 💜💙 Greetings from the Netherlands 🏳️🌈
I tried to love Furls resin hooks but I am extremely sensitive to sound, I have a severe case hyperacusis and the sound it makes when it drags through the yarn makes me wanna vomit, lol. They are so pretty though. I do want to try the Furls all metal, those look super nice.
I love seeing reviews like this, we get to see hooks up close and personal without having to buy them (or waste money if we dont end up liking them) Thank You Juan 💜😊
Hi Juan and right now I am working on my cottage core mosaic blanket and granny squares blanket and butterfly mosaic blanket and a baby blanket and I love your channel and your videos and if you keep making videos I will keep watching them and what is your favorite crochet project to work on right now and favorite types of yarn to used when crocheting and keep up the great work on your TH-cam channel and keep up the great work on your crochet projects
Hi Juan! Thanks for the review. It was informative for future purchases. And enjoyable as all of your videos are. Could you please recommend books for crochet dictionaries? Thanks so much.
Whoa. Freaked me out the way you make a chain. Never saw that before and then with the left. Thought I had a stroke and got messed up in the brain at the first moment I watched then I got it! Cool!😂
I wonder if the difference you're seeing in the furls hooks is dut to most of them being "second-chance" hooks. They are imperfect. Maybe those are the imperfections. I'm gonna check my hooks now to see if I notice the same differences
The Furls resin hooks you are reviewing are all factory seconds, is that correct? So they do have imperfections. I have several first-quality Furls hooks and one second-chance hook that was a very pleasant surprise; the defect was almost unnoticeable and does not affect the performance of the hook, and it's beautiful. That said, I almost always prefer metal hooks, but the resin hooks are really useful for the more slippery yarns, and the weight and balance in the hand is really good, especially in the larger sizes.
Could the variation in the throats of the Furls hooks come down to the ones you have being from the mystery oops sets? I think that's what you said they were. Maybe the throat on that P was actually the oops? P.S. Thank you for talking about the length of hooks. As a woman with very large hands (20cm long! Pretty darn big!) I really appreciate knowing when a hook rests nicely in a larger hand!
Hi Juan😊 The Furls with the filigree are the older collection and the ones without are the newer line. I noticed that the heads of the hooks differ with each collection. Enjoyed watching your review more blessings to you❤
So happy you’ve done this hook review video. Thanks, Juan!
Good afternoon everyone 😊

Hi Juan! So good to see you! 🤗🧶
I also love a deep cut and good bevel on the throat of my hook. It holds the yarn very securely, allowing me to crochet at speed
Nice review, you have some great hooks there, thanks for taking the time
I appreciate all you do to show and teach us ALL THE THINGS.

Hi Juan
I have found Furls does not have a very deep hook. I am glad the addi swing are good since they are 20 hooks.
Thanks to you I have started using Prym hooks. Still like Clover and Boye. Want to try Addi and the one with bubbles on it. ❤❤❤

im not hook picky and will use any, BUT my go-tos are g and h.
Tina Angel 👍👍💜💜🐿🐿🐿
Older hooks were handmade. Recently they changed to machine made. I think that is why they are different.
The Ophir looks inline. Is it? I’ve beeen looking for a fancy inline hook…
I have small hands and like the look of office hook. Does it feel simular to clover amour? Heavy? Thank you!
Can you hold Camera closer
What hook would you recommend for an absolute beginner?
For an absolute beginner:
Number 1 Pick: a.co/d/0gjqoMvW
Number 2 Pick: a.co/d/0eOsYYCP
Number 3 Pick: a.co/d/067D7nfE
Hope this helps!
@@JuanTheYarnAddict thanks. I am guessing some inexpensive worsted weight yarn?
Please stop losing weight!! Oh my!
Where did Juan go??!!
What is happening??!! 🥰
