First Impressions of Malmo and Lund, Sweden

- Malmo Christmas Market included! First full day in Malmo, Sweden. We start our day with some breakfast at the hotel and then take the train to beautiful Lund. One of Sweden's oldest cities and a big University town. Of course, we have to visit the stunning cathedral, which is the biggest monument in the town. We also ran into the jamming University band on the main square 🎵
After exploring a bit more of the town and its history, we head back to Malmo for some delicious Swedish meatballs, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint 😋😋 From there we head to the Christmas markets and take in the beautiful scenery.

A tip to people visiting here (Skåne )and using public transport, tickets are single or 24 hours. Had they bought 2 tickets at the start i.e a 24 hour ticket, they would have had free travels in Malmö and Lund for 24 hours. A 24 hour ticket is probably the way to go at all times, unless you're not planning on coming back.

But sadly enough Scandinavia and western Europe are being corrupted by leeches, terrorists from the middle east and Balkans., We must immediately take an action otherwise we are lost .

It was, soon taken over by Islamists and 1000 years of history and culture will be lost. When in Lund you acctually filmed where I live, could see my kitchen and bedroom windows.

If you're in Sweden and are having trouble finding a restaurant that serves meatballs you can try finding a restaurant that serves Wallenbergare. It's basically the luxury version of meatballs, they are slightly larger and flatter than meatballs and made from minced veal, mixed with whipped cream. It's typically server with more or less the same accessories as meatballs, except that the potatoes are always mashed.

I loved you got some history in, and I'm very impressed you mentioned Lund and Skåne became swedish in the 1300s, most people don't know this. However, you forgot to mention this didn't last for long and the danes retook Skåne after only 30 year, in 1360. Then it was danish again for over 300 years until 1658, and it's been swedish ever since. So not that long really 😉
Hope you had a good time in Skåne even tho it was in the winter, and the winter in Skåne is awful! 😬

Great vlog again. Sweden and Denmark have been at war over 30 times 😲😲. Parts of land were shifted and owned by Sweden and Denmark until 1658. After that Sweden's borders were established until today. If you say Charles VII, that is wrong. But it´s not easy to remember all the Kings. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Charles X Gustav would be the correct one. Charles VII was king of France (and died more than 200 years before the Treaty of Roskilde). And the king in the picture is Charles XII, grandson to Charles X Gustav. Sweden was governed from Lund, but only for a very short period when Charles XII temporarily resided in Lund (1716-1718), so that was something they got right.
But it’s easy to get confused when so many kings are named Charles. 😉

The cathedral (Lunds Domkyrka) was completed in 1145, though there are signs that there had been a church there before already. Already in the 1100s Lund had officially become the main seat for Christianity throughout the whole of the North and was headed by the archbishop Asker.

Lund was the final destination, during my summer visit. The cathedral, streets and the food were so inviting and made for a peaceful feeling.
The little lake and cafe, which are near the botanical Gardens, are very pleasant too.
Definitely worth a revisit 🎉

I love this channel. But I hope you also visit Sweden in the summer. It's like a complete different country. Southern Sweden should be a summer visit and northern Sweden should be a vinter visit. Are you coming to my city, Gothenburg?

The Lund cathedral is well worth a visit but it cannot be the oldest stone building in use in Sweden as the bishop resided in nearby Dalby in the 11th century before moving to Lund. The Dalby church is from 1060, though it has been modified over the years.
For a traditional meal just before Christmas, you should have tried a Christmas table! Ofc, you might have been rolling away from the table which could make TH-cam watchers dizzy... 🙂

Malmö is a big city with a small town vibe. A beautiful mix of modern and old buildings. Shopping streets and malls in the city centre. Most is at a walking distance. That is what the locals like about Malmö. Overall not that interesting as a tourist destination since Copenhagen is near. Though now (2023) we are invaded by Danish people who go here because of the value of the currency making it is cheap to buy stuff here - compared to us going over there.

Thanks for a great video but Lund is not the oldest city, it is #2 or #3, the oldest city in Sweden is Sigtuna.

6:20 It is of course Charles the twelfth, (Karl XII), not Charles the seventh. Karl XII came back to Sweden after several years of warfare out in Europe and stayed in Lund for a year before he went to Stockholm. - By the way, Lund is my hometown, I am a native, and it is very fun to see these familiar streets.

It's funny to hear people from other countries always say that meatballs are something traditional from Sweden. In fact, like most things, we have imported it from outside. The meatballs probably come from the Middle East instead.
Although we in Sweden have made our own version of the meatballs, for example when it comes to seasoning. This is perhaps what makes everyone associate meatballs with Sweden.
The only way I eat meatballs by myself is if I have them in a tomato sauce for pasta. Besides that, I never eat meatballs.

@@hannahagberg6545 You have a mix of pork and beef also in Austria and Germany, I would agree with Anders that it's the seasoning which makes it be different.

According to Wikipedia the Romans were the first to have meatballs the size we are used to today. The first known meatballs were made in what is now Iran, but they were the size of an orange.
Wrong, the meatballs are Swedish but kåldolmar/dolmas came from Turkey.

I've been to Malmö before, but not to Lund, which looks really nice and has a typical Scandinavian architecture.
There are a lot more tourists in Malmö in the summer and many of them come to Malmö on a day trip from Copenhagen.
Meat balls are famous because of IKEA, but they're not really traditional in Sweden.
Lund was a really nice, quaint town to visit in contrast to big city Malmo!
Meatballs are as traditional as it gets, You've listened to those who say it's Turkish, try it and compare both are meaty balls with completely different spices and Swedish has a creamy sauce and Turkish has tomato and paprika sauce! We have eaten these in Sweden for 300 years, but there have been multi-cult movements that try to take national food traditions from us, including "semla"fastlags buns, cinnamon rolls, it is claimed that Danes have not

Is Malmo Safe city to live like other Swedish cities?
Of course it is ,however it has its problems like any other but overall it’s pretty safe
Its not really cultural reasons but a side effect of tradition.
For some reason we still baptis children when giving them names.
Both religious and atheists do this.
Dont ask me why, its just something you do, tradition.
Honestly, I dont think most people even know you can actually legally name your child without baptising them.
Its the same as celebrating christmas.
I think most KNOW its a religious holiday but NO ONE, except practicing christians ofc, think of it as such.
Its just a traditional holiday celebration.
But I digress, when you do baptis a child the child automatically becomes a member of the church.
I believe its like 70% or so of the native population who are members *on paper* even tho only around 10% of Swedes are actually practicing christians.
I'm sorry, did you actually state "one of the world's oldest top universities is here"? Well, I'm sorry, but no. That is simply false. The top three oldest universities in the world are Italian, British, and Spanish, with the first being Università di Bologna, which was founded in 1088. I'm afraid Lund isn't even on any lists. Then, of course...if you mention position 100, well, that's, to put it mildly, cute:). They probably are the only ones to call themselves the best . 😃Sorry, but because I care about culture, I felt compelled to intervene. Lund is like elementary school in comparison to the top universities, and it was founded almost 700 years after the others. Sorry for the honesty.
