  • Using spray paint in an acrylic pour can bring some interesting effects. We are going to try a few spray paint brands and see what magic we can make.

    I still like them. That’s what I like about you David you’re not afraid to try. You inspired me to try pour painting. I’m getting better. So Thank you!

    Neat experiment! I really liked the hints of spray paint in the layers of the first one, before you did the dip.
    I tried spray paint a couple of years ago, to try to make chameleon cells come out of a solid background! But alas, it formed a skin and the cells couldn’t grow. Always fun to experiment, though!

    I think these are gorgeous! The first would be a beautiful flower if you painted some stamens coming out of the center. The second one is very dramatic and looks like a pansy. Well done!

    first, the cells in the red paint on the edge were amazing, then that green combined with the spray paint gold was a beautiful color combo, love this experiment!

  • @brigs2831

    Because the spray paint sits on top of the acrylic paint, when you put the wet paper towel on top it just pulls the spray paint off. I still think they are really pretty.

    Welcome back, again! I'm sure there must be a way to make that work but I haven't had any luck with oil based spray paints in my art at all. I bought that easy sprayer thingy at sherwin Williams and I'm gonna give that a try with acrylics made into spray. I even spent way too much money on Montana and Amsterdam acrylic spray, that didn't work either 😢

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      Let me know if you find something that does work. I love the initial look but hate that it all disappeared.

  • @RebekahSue

    No way is either a failure. The effects are totally different than Fiona's even though the spray paint thickens like cornstarch much faster than acrylic paint dries. The edges were gorgeous!
    I love using spray paint but never on wet acrylic paint.
    It's a unique take (to me) on this technique and I think that, with tweaking, you'll nail it.

    Were any of those spray paints acrylic based? I'm wondering if that would behave differently. Also, I like that little bit of forearm geometry you used to find the center of the canvas.😂

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      The ones from Michael are both acrylic based. I don't know about the ones from Lowes.

  • @aprildegele1510

    The problem with the spray paint, even though it's acryic, is the stuff that makes it flammable is what also allows it to dry to touch and recoat in about 15 minutes. Spray paint forms skin before you're finished layering. Thus, when you swipe, the art acrylic just sticks to the skin of the spray paint and covers it completely. I really would have liked to see this work, but was pretty sure it wouldn't. Bummer.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      Does seem a bit obvious in hind sight. But that is why I love to experiment. We'll see how the next ones turn out.

  • @NikolaHoward

    Hi again, Nate Brite did a play with spray paint not long ago, have a look at his, see what you can crib :-)
    And yes, it dries really fast when it is thin layers, so it's a dry layer on the wet acrylic.

  • @LGmidwest21

    What about a straight pour where you spray the paint between layers so it mixes into the paint. Maybe cause of consistency it'd make cells?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      I think anytime the pain moves you are going to lose the paint regardless of the technique. I am working on some new experiements that I hope will pan out.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      I have my silicone mat on it and that provides enough "stickiness". You can use double sided tape or painters tape wrape on a circle so it is sticky on all sides too.

    Liquitex spray paint is water based with no VOCs. You really need to shake those cans a lot more!

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      I shook the crap out of them before i started the video. I even tried the one gold after on a piece of cardboard. Was splotchy. Might have to change the spray top for one of the others.

  • @Bergensape

    Nice tests as always! Wonder if there is some way to use the spray paint to pour (mixing it with some medium) and how it compares to normal metallic paint pouring

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      I can't think of a way to make it cost effective and still maintain the cool sheen besides spraying it on at the end and hope some of the film it creates stays visible. But I am going to keep trying to figure something out.
