I own a Lynx-1 and it is a fantastic tent. I've been using it for a couple of years now and I can easily get it setup in 3 minutes. It's been through a bunch of storms and I've never had any issues with water inside the tent, not even a leak. I can definitely vouch for the need to stake it out. The day I got it I set it up in the backyard and the wind blew it across the yard. Great review and it's awesome to see the brand getting some attention. Safe travels, Luke.
I feel like having the tent light up noticeably when you have a light inside it is a really nice feature if you're the kind that gets up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. No way you're losing sight of that tent in the dark if you just leave a small flashlight on inside it.
I have had a Lynx 1P for about 5 yrs now. Got it from Optics Planet with footprint for about $100. Have used many ( 4X a yr ) for when weight isn't a BIG concern or I am going remote , in the dirt. mud and snow . Figured first off that I would use in shitty conditions and it has never failed me, figured if it did I could replace tent for $80 :) !!! Used last yr for 3 days sub freezing here in Michigan and it rained , sleeted , snowed on us . Is a warm tent with snow piled around fly because of its size , Love the widow and SUPER love the TWO very TOP side fly vents !!!! May be my best for the price tent !!!
Awesomeness, finally Alps mountaineering review! I have the Taurus 2 and I have a video of it in a Gale force storm at 60mph. Some of it was blocked by the house, but you can see it collapse and bounce back out. I am very pleased with it as no leaks, two vestibules, pockets, gear loft, and excellent room. I will be taking it out next month for the 0 degree review and watching for some snow. Apoc survival is my channel, thanks Luke and enjoy your box of gifts today!
I have a Alps Moutaineering Meramac 5 for car camping. We had water in the tent because our campsite flooded during a thunderstorm. Let's just say the state parks don't always have a decent description or picture of the camp sites online.
I bought the Zephyr 3 man tent and it did very well in the rain other than the vestibule doors leaked where the stitching was. So I just seem sealed the doors and haven't had an issue since. Thanks for the review Luke!
I LOVE everything about my Zephyr-2, except the weight when backpacking. In fact, the weight is the only reason I am thinking about getting something different, but only for backpacking. The best thing about it in my opinion is the two pulls on the vestibule zippers. On non-raining nights it allows me to unzip just a little and get more ventilation without having to open up the whole side of the tent. I sleep HOT and that is a very important feature to me. I have yet to see another tent with that feature. As for durability, I have the Zephyr-2 and the Choas-3. Both have been used by Boy Scouts at times and they have held up awesomely. In my opinion, great tent for the price. Thanks for the review, keep up the good work.
I have alps mountaineering backpack and I love it very comfortable, I had an issue with the sternum strap, contacted their customer service and they were very good, I was expecting just the replacement sternum strap, but they sent a new set of straps ( shoulder and waist) I like their gear.
Glad to see you test this Luke I have this tent and a zephyr 3 when my girlfriend and I go backpacking. We love them. The company is also great and stands behind their product our Zephyr 3 had a leak in the outer shell and they replaced it for free.
I have the 3 person version. Works like a champ. Im 6,4 230 so the person rating thing does not apply to me. I only go backpacking 4 times a year. So bang for the buck it is great. Last time i used it rained like all hell and were dry. 👍🏽👍🏽
For using an air pad or air mattress when camping, I always put a thin barrier between the tent floor and the air mattress. That could be a thin foam pad, or fold-able beach mat, just something between them to help block the cold. I've definitely noticed a difference between using one or not using one. I understand that for a backpacker, that would add unwanted weight. But, it's worth it if it keeps you warm at night.
I looked at this line of tents a while back on Amazon and there was quite a few reviews saying that that plastic window doesn't weather well and it will crack and split. Could you start measuring the inside of the tents about a foot off the floor so we can get accurate dimensions that accommodate the sloping sides of the tent at head and foot level. That's sort of a big deal for anybody that's over 6 feet tall. Great review preciate it hope all is well with you and your family
Ah LVG , outstanding . Did the Rock Jock a few yrs ago with sons while one was doing fellowship at Duke . Amazing , amazing place !!! Enjoy , and tell Shug yo :)
thanks for the review i only have a coleman 4 person dome type tent , it does not leak, loads of room well made and has never leaked on me in a storm, i only paid 75.00 here in Ontario
Thanks for adding the mini review on the Italian sleeping pad. I took a chance on one from Sportsman's Guide and hoped that I didn't waste $. Looks like a hit at least for summer. Thanks again!
I have taken my zephyr 1 out in a very heavy rain with high winds, and stayed completely dry. Mine is the two pole version, so this one probably holds up even better in the wind.
I u se Nikwax on tents that pool water on top and it makes it water and condensation proof. I spray them when new and scrub it with a sponge. Never have been any change of color.
hey Luke. I saw how stealthy the Mill TEC Recom tent in fleknard camo was so I got one. $100. it disappears in the woods however it's 6 lbs. the poles alone were 2.6 lbs due to the fiberglass. I just ordered Easton aluminum poles to bring the weight down to 4 lbs. the 2 main poles cost me $30 each to replace. check it out. if you want a bug out hide out add some camo net and a few stiks and some leaves. it turns into a pile of leaves.
Thanks for the video: I was about to take that new Z1 tent on the back and test the water proof function with a hose before I see this! Another thing I learn is what the heck should that loft net thing go? So it's a loft! Since it's a very small detachable thing, I know I will soon lose it. Maybe AM should have it built in with the tent. Again - thanks!
Luke, great review as always. Now, you know I've been following you for some time and we have talked about this before, but when are you going to do an overnite, soaking rain, snow storm, wind, etc with the Hilleberg Akto? You did an unboxing and advised one was coming. Please, do the AKTO! Peace my friend.
I'll just stick with my eureka tcop one man combat tent.awesome tent, don't mind the 7 pound weight and I've backpacked in all seasons out here in northern Arizona. I would say the best tent I have ever owned. Great video Luke strength and honor.
For $90 it is not the end of the world to need a little seam sealer. Even if you buy a $300 tent, this can happen to you. Always test your gear out before you have to depend on it.
I dunno.....one person? Looks like two people could fit, as long as it is your significant other and ya like to sleep/cuddle all night. My wife and I, even when it is very warm, always cuddle up when sleeping (even after 32 yrs of marriage, LOL!) and 'occupy' the space of one person so a tent this size would be great for us. . How is the air circulation? Thanks for another honest review and we'll see ya in the next one.
Hi. Thanks for the review :) I'm considering this tent for a year backpacking in South America, where I'll be doing some multi-day hikes/treks in Patagonia and in the Andes. Do you think it would be up to the task?
can you do a Test Nigth on the Improved bugnet popup tent. That bushcraft 4 season thing you made :) I really wanna buy that setup, but i dont know if it will hold to my standards
Last year I was camping at Lakeside Beach campground in New York and I had a tent from Kmart my kids used to use. It was a Coleman tent. It has seems all the way around. And it rained like you've never seen and I was sleeping in one inch of water. Not very comfortable but I was still warm in my sleeping bag even wet. Then I went to Walmart in Albion New York the next day and bought the crummiest end at Walmart that everybody said leaked it was $25 and two bottles of the stuff which cost more than half of the tent to make it waterproof. That tent I was in 20 hours of torrential downpour and it never leaked. But people on TH-cam said it sucks and it leaks. They probably didn't use the waterproofing. I like a better tent that is lighter but those are like $300 so I don't guess I'm not going to get one. I'll have to do something like this cuz I'm on my e-bike I don't have a vehicle and I need something really light I need a light sleeping bag also
And I have one leg so it's a little more difficult for me but I can do it when I wrote up there on my bike with one leg the campground people were shocked LOL they said where did you come from I said Batavia New York. It really sucks cuz after 2 weeks they make you move even if there's nobody in the whole Campground and there wasn't
Can I just say that anybody who sets up a tent for the first time at night, at the campsite, is asking for trouble. Also, some may see it as overkill, but I seam seal all of my tents and tarps when I first get them, taped seams or not. I've never had one leak.
I bought two of the Italian army sleeping mattresses and pump for 13.95 through sportsman guide Gear.com .going to try them out the first week of December in Southern Vermont wish me luck
For 25,00 GBP, this Decathlon tent does exactly the same. Tested. www.decathlon.co.uk/mh100-2p-tent-id_8513471.html Oh, and it's a 2 person tent weighing 5 lb. 4 oz. (2.4 Kg)
Hi man I’ve been following you for around about a year to 2 years now roughly how can I get in touch with you of the year you don’t reply to anything on TH-cam because I will get in touch with you can you let me know of the via TH-cam if possible thank you very much take care strength and honour.
their best rated tent has amazing reviews on amazon...and yet seems too much like flimsy trash in ways from the bottom reviews on that site...ALPS Mountaineering 5024617 TAKE MY WORD FOR IT AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK ALL THE 1-2star reviews...you will be surprised how come so many people even like that piece of trash...THE ONE YOU ARE REVIEWING in this video has A LOT MORE going for it IMO, and I am sure it's reviews are LOWER than the one I posted...
one of the best/bigger tips I have received from watching more than a few tent vids, IS THIS. Avoid freestandings, go with non free standing ones...why? Because it's ONE LESS piece of equipment you can have fail on you...so even though I am an amateur, I LEARNED THIS BASIC FROM THE PROS, and they KNOW THEIR stuff...you really want this simplicity for the long haul...one less piece of equipment to be able to malfunction/break!
So, for the 25 bucks ozark trail, or the 50 bucks french tent " leaks like a seeth" for the hundred bucks alps zephir, " just a lite seam sealing and voila" . Admit it you like expensive gear
Great video. The outdoor industry as a whole should be thanking you for such quality videos. I have bought a few things based totally on your reviews.
This is why I subscribe! Honest reviews in real world conditions.
Thanks Jim!
how are you doing brother?
- Luke
Always doing good when I watch your channel

for a product coming out of Missouri WE HAVE A WINNER. ALPS rocks

I use the very similar Lynx 1. I've been very happy with it.
I have alps mountaineering backpack and I love it very comfortable, I had an issue with the sternum strap, contacted their customer service and they were very good, I was expecting just the replacement sternum strap, but they sent a new set of straps ( shoulder and waist) I like their gear.

Perfect tent to set up on the deck of my 14 foot jon boat conversion. I was looking for a narrow tent with a door in that position.
I have the 3 person version. Works like a champ. Im 6,4 230 so the person rating thing does not apply to me. I only go backpacking 4 times a year. So bang for the buck it is great. Last time i used it rained like all hell and were dry. 👍🏽👍🏽

Alps has the best tents for the money! Have a couple I've used over the last 7 or 8 years and never had any leaks in some pretty nasty downpours.

Good review, I have the zephyr 2 I'll be taking it to Linville gorge next weekend. So far I love it.

No one is going to mention the window looks like the"Avengers" logo?
That might be a great tent for a PCT thru hike. Thanks Luke!!

Looked hard at this tent, bought the 2 person version instead. Very happy with my choice. weight was not a factor!!!

Great review. Alps Mountaineering are my new favorite tents. After buying the Extreme 2, I purchased the Taurus 4.
you could put a mylar blanket under the sleeping pad to reflect your heat back up at you, hope the company sees this and improves the tent
Thanks for the video: I was about to take that new Z1 tent on the back and test the water proof function with a hose before I see this! Awesome Luke I love your delivery and the stats that pop up gives an excellent review
Just scored one for $8.00 complete at Goodwill.
2:25 that's a good way to end up with some yotes in your tent with you xD
ALPS seems to make pretty legit tents for the price. Decided to go with the phenom 1 over this
Luke, great review as always. Heard the Bubbles laugh at 4:07, another good vid man, as always
Thank you Luke!!!
I have the Zehpyr2 never had a problem with leaking whats nice about the zehpyr2 it has two doors one on each side.
Great review Wolfman Luke.
Leaking is a show stopper.
What are the main differences between the Lynx 1 and the zephyr 1? The price difference is only $10-$15.

I'm 6'4 and fits just me with room for gadgets
I would say on the heavy side for a 1 person but a friend has the Zephyr 2 and swears by it.

Hey brother Luke what lumens was that light setting on in the tent?
I have a good old fashion ranger rent and I have solar panels with a clear tart so I can power my tablet and a heater.
Last year I was camping at Lakeside Beach campground in New York and I had a tent from Kmart my kids used to use. It was a Coleman tent. It has seems all the way around. I have this tent and it leaks, if you don't setup the fly super tight.
Very helpful review. Thanks
Any updates on this tent? I’m looking for a light cheap backcountry tent. Would you recommend this or is there a better tent for the money?
The A at the window looks like avengers...
big thumbs up from me!
I think they call those things a footing for under your tent I use a cheap tarp
How do you actually stay warm and comfortable inside a tent? (couldn't see because it was too dark)
Ever finish a use review of the Snugpak Stratosphere bivy ???
Looks cold buddy
Any tents and sleeping mats you would recommend to someone on a budget who does not know a lot about camping?
@TheOutdoorGearReview Would you choose this over the teton ultra 1 for backpacking?
beautiful howling at 2:11 !!
Elton Núñez interesting a fellow 🇵🇾 who also likes this channel!
You are my hero still lol
What is the head lamp you are using?
Too bad camping survival has some of the worst prices I've seen. Good honest review though.
DOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!
great review
Can you cook inside these tent vestibules? I think my alcohol diy stove would be ok for boiling water in there.
The vestibule is too small in my opinion to cook in.
- Luke
Does it have vestibules ?
Can I just say that anybody who sets up a tent for the first time at night, at the campsite, is asking for trouble. Also, some may see it as overkill, but I seam seal all of my tents and tarps when I first get them, taped seams or not. I've never had one leak.
Peter Allen Hi Peter, thanks for the advice. Do you have a recommended product for sealing the seams on a new tent? Cheers
Looking to buy a four season tent ⛺️ any ideas? Thanks
My tent does not have the window on the front which is weird
Are you nuts?...Howling in the dark!
I bought two of the Italian army sleeping mattresses and pump for 13.95 through sportsman guide Gear.com .going to try them out the first week of December in Southern Vermont wish me luck
