Takes me back to my youth, great local SoCal band. Lots of great songs. RIP Bradley.
brad nowell forever son
Can’t go wrong with ANY Sublime songs. And good point re: their uniqueness…can’t think of another band that combines so many different genres: reggae, rap, blues, rock, alternative, ska…pretty amazing.
Gorillaz are another band that combines so many genres, rock, rap, funk, folk. J not sure if you checked them out yet?
311 combines a lot of styles together as well.
I second this
its very sad the lead singer died so young and didnt get to see how popular the band and the album would become
tbh probably wouldn't be popular if he hadn't died, death brings popularity
Oh, I know. We were getting into this album and playing it a lot and then Bradley died young. He too died under the age of 30. Too bad.
Probably not too popular, Bradley's death sadly but fortunately gave the band popularity
let the lovin let the lovin come back to me
His son is doing great though. I will actually go see them now. Rome had a bad vibe for me, could be my tism but I’m usually never wrong
I’m from Southern California. I saw Sublime back in the day in Long Beach 🕺🕺🕺
"Bad Fish" is one of their best songs, should give it a gander.
Takes me back to my awesome college days! Loved Sublime.
Awesome vibes ;)
Both Sublime songs you’ve heard are great. My favorite of theirs is “Doin’ Time.”
Ahh yeah…and the Lana Del Rey (cover)
😌🎧🎶 so good.
Doin' Time is my favorite as well. I think its their best song
@@jakeferreira1211 it has such a smooth flow to it.
Santeria
I realise the song title doesn't sound ideal but... Date Rape is my favourite Sublime track
Great song, great message!
Great song for a reaction. Lyrics
Bradley had one of the greatest, and yes most beautiful voices. RIP to a legend. Life is too short, so love the one you got!
Sublime seemlesly combined punk, thrash, reggae, and hip hop. There has nothing like them before or since. Their name is an accurate depiction of their sound.
Javonne...you found the RIGHT SONG! I was young and dumb when this came out. This and Offsprings Self esteem. My car radio was blazing all the early 90s.
Another band that does this reggae style so well is 311. Try their song called Down.
Soundtrack of my college years. You just hit play but I'm sure this'll be your new fave. The annoyingly censored line is "I can play the gee-tar like a mother-fuckin' riot." Love his delivery on that one.
Same. His delivery of that line has a lot of attitude in it
I surprised myself still remembering all these lyrics.
again, this song is one of so many incredible songs from bands in the great 90s decade: it was an unfettered explosion of musical creativity & exploration; so many artists suddenly unafraid to experiment, mix, mingle & explore a multitude of globally musical styles.. an explosion of sooo many wonderful jewels of unexpected fresh sounds, styles, & songs (not to mention an explosion of new & "side" bands/projects).. whenever i hear this song, i'm immediately thrown into a memory of hearing this frequently on the radio during my many drives to work in my 20s.. thank you so much for reacting to this song!
You're so right about their unique vibe!
they had a nice mixture of reggae Rock & Trip-Hop drumming R.I.P. to Bradley and Lou Dog
How can u not groove to this. Great reaction!
I’ve been waiting for this one!!! One of my absolute favorites!! Lou Dog and Bradley are together forever now❤️
I love this song! Makes my day!
Man drugs suck RIP
The album this came off has been a regular go to for me for around 20+ years
Is that one of the coolest f*cking sounds you've ever heard or whut?!
I ❤️ this comment 😆
Sublime was AMAZING!!!!
Just a fact for fun, they did a lot of ska garage stuff with No Doubt (Gwen Steffani)
THANK YOU. This band is loved and also overlooked. Taken away from us too soon.
One of my favorite bands...
Saw them in 1990 something at a small hotel/casino. The casino owner came in and unplugged the amps, the crowd went angry. It was dope seeing them live in a grunge setting.
I met some of the band mates once they were trying to buy a house across the street from my friend in the Sacramento area when I was high school and wanted to meet their neighbors. Never found out if they bough the house or not. Nice dudes
This song never gets old!
Smoke 2 Joints is probably my fave song by them
Badfish is a great track you would love.
Smoke two joints is also great to anyone who thinks the title sounds good 😉
Sublime's version of S2J's is right up there with the original version by The Toyes!
@@steveparker3652 holy crow! I did not know this was a cover even after all these years. I'm floored.
Another one I have not heard in so long. This song brings back such nostalgia.
Omg thank you for doing more Sublime! 'Doin Time' is an amazing one you should check out!
SUBLIME: SUBLIME: KINGS OF LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA 👑 👑👑 💨💨💨
RIP BRADLEY NOWELL❤️🤙🏻
Firstly: Listen to more Sublime!
Secondly: If you like this sound, check out The Dirty Heads. they are like the modern version of Sublime
Ooh, this reminded me of a couple good songs from this era for you to check out! “If You Could Only See” by Tonic and/or “Two Princes” by The Spin Doctors - both good tunes.
Sublime and No Doubt really pushed, what I called California Ska, into the foreground. Still in the not so distant background, are amazing bands like Fortunate Youth, Pepper and Slightly Stoopid, that are still creating great reggae based content to this day.
Thank you for shouting those bands out, I’m so desperate for something new of that sound! Love Gwen/ND very dearly :))
I've not heard them before but this song really reminds me of The Barenaked Ladies One Week!
EXPERIENCE is the highest degree one can attain. Mix some patience, consideration, flexibility, forgiveness, thoughtfulness, and genuine love from your heart... and U B UNSTOPPABLE! ❤️👍
I didn't realize I liked them until after Brad passed. :-(
New Subscriber! RIght now! I love your reaction videos, Jay! Keep up the awesome work! Love Sublime! Love is what I got!
The main dude died before this was released. This was their one hit with Santeria also getting some play.
"Jailhouse" is another great Sublime track, just a straight groove I think you'd enjoy.
✌️nice, so glad you did this song😊
Sublime are the origin of CaliRoots ! It's unfortunate Brad didn't get to see how great and successful they would become ! LEGENDS !
Great song.
Sublime - Caress Me Down or Summertime !!
My favorite band
First time I listened to Sublime back in the day was on my bud record player and we were high as FK! lol.... Great music to burn to!.
Used2 love Sublime
D.J.’s is an underrated Sublime song, but I HAVE seen others request it on your Santeria video and it is a BANGER. So groovy and another different side to Sublime for you!! Trust, it might be your favourite :) and not sure if you’ll be returning to No Doubt so soon, but “Spiderwebs” and “Sunday Morning” are a punk-y take on this Sublime 90’s Ska/reggae sound you love, Gwen from ND even has a song with Sublime!!
Garden Grove and April 29th 1992 are awesome and should be given a listen
🔥 SUBLIME🔥🥰✌🏼
Oh man, Sublime! So glad you stared with this song! Check out April 29,1992
Caress me down
Smoke two joints
Doing time
Date rape
They don't disappoint!
Sublime and Red Hot Chili Peppers🌶 😎😎😎🎥🎥🎥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
this song could be the background to a montage of me from 14-18 years old, down at the beach in SoCal.
I used to listen to a lot of sublime in the afterglow of several acid trips I took when I was 16-17, I had a tracklist of them playing live songs also, good fucking times man! The music player I used was a shitty mp3 though haha but still! It brought nice music to my ears and my trips 😆
You should look into, and learn a bit about them. Knowles had a pops with a boat and spent many formative years on the Caribbean islands. Their DJ’s KRS-1. One of the most infamous DJs in hip-hop history). I’m top of that he grew up in Southern California which was all over the place. Ska, Reggae, Punk, Rock, Funk, etc. That’s SoCal culture through and through.
🔥🔥🔥
Love Sublime! "Ebin" is my favourite, would love to see you react to it too. But imo all of them is great, and I especially love the "40oz to freedom" album, so many great memories! 90s were the best!
Check out their version of the Reggae classic "Rivers Of Babylon." "Caress Me Down" samples a classic by Wayne Smith.."Under Me Sleng Teng" Check it all out!
Check out Loving by Half Pint.. the hook was taken from that song
Also "war deh round a John shop" by The wailing souls
Sublime - Smoke Two Joints!
Do Empire Of The Sun "Way To Go"
"We Are The People" "High and Low"
(the videos)
Check out Steelheart “I’ll Never Let You Go”. Amazing voice.
I want to believe that my comment about how crazy it is that sublime didnt win influenced this reaction. May just be the rum i drank during the bama game talking but i appreciate it either way lmao
Love your shirt!
Sublime had many influences from different genres but they themselves didn't fall within a specific category.
Yeah mon!
You might like INCUBUS as well.
Try the song "11am"
Since you enjoyed this you should check out Dirty Heads! Sublime with Rome has some amazing songs as well and he channels Bradley so well! Bradley was so incredible and ahead of his time, and we all lost a true talent with his passing. Just as Brian Johnson carried on after Bon Scott - Rome has given Sublime a genuine voice to carry on that Sublime legacy,
Dude you hit it on the snout
Yup, that's scaw, punk, rock, rap, reggae fusion, Bradley and other members are influenced by Marley but also other rastafarian groups too, they covered Marley's Smoke Two Joints, funny to me back then so few people knew it was a cover.
Ska 😉
Smoke 2 joints is not a Marley song. Smh
Well my fkn radio station lied then wtfe
Check into Third Eye Blind who are another great 90s group!
Bad fish 🐠 40oz to freedom
Great band from my youth. You should check out the acoustic version as well. It's just a good, if not better.
Check out the live version of Badfish. You won't regret it.
Badfish, Wrong Way, Caress me down, Smoke two joints, Garden Grove, April 29 1992, Pawn Shop, Date Rape, 40 oz to freedom. You're welcome.
sublime - summertime
💜
I avoided getting into sublime for awhile bc basically I hated all the dudes I knew who listened to them. A bunch of dudes who either where frat boys from party schools or community college drops outs who’d cop a feel when you passed out at a party. Then this chick played me wrong way and another friend played me big blue whale, and I finally buckled and listened to 40 oz of freedom. Since then I’ve met a bunch of cool ppl who listen to sublime. It’s funny how you can dislike a group or genre bc of bad experiences you have with ppl you associate with them. But life is like that. I used to have a almost PTSD reaction to anyone that even remotely looked like a crck head after I got assaulted by one. It’s human nature and we have to consciously know that and accept it so we can stop it from happening, bc it’s the same impulse that leads some to have prejudices. Anyways weird tangent. But sublime is great. Def rec, wrong way and Santeria. Both are easy to listen too. I also highly rec date rpe bc it’s just a fun song, as fcked up as that sounds. But it’s about a rpist actually getting justice which rarely happens.
I get you. Especially with music, it's easy to dismiss a group/artist but other things too, just bc of the association with awful people. Blehhh! Fuck them for giving you crap and for taking some good music away from you for awhile.
Try "Caress Me Down" with the lyrics.
It was like Reggae with a little taste of Spanish and a pinch of rap
Very unique, southern Cali band. A big fusion style. Too bad he died.
Ska domains...early 30's Jamaican roots!
Santeria is awesome. Try "Pawn Shop!"
Can I suggest that you do Peter Kay misheard lyrics?... trust me that guy is brilliant...cheers
Reggae, Hip hop, little bit of SoCal chicano stylee
Dude listen to o it y’all. South FL proud old school.
His son Jacob has a ban called Law he sounds just like his dad
I think you'd need to listen to some 311. Try "flowing"
Do 070 Shake "Guilty Conscience"
Please give a listen to Sublime's song call "Badfish". (:
"I don't get angry when my mom smokes pot, hits the bottle and goes right to the rock [crack cocaine]". Wonder why this guy wasn't alive when MTV gave him an award for this song....
Gotta hear REBELUTION or SLIGHTLY STOOPID. California-style reggae-rock doesn't get any better
Once you get past the hits, the rest of their music, is just as good. Ebin is about his racist friend. KRS-1 is about learning through music. Seed is a straight punk banger. STP is about selling/cooking/doing meth. Step in Razor is a cover song about a psycho. Had a Dat, just listen to it and look at all the love you found.
I got a Dalmatian...
🎶 I can still get high 🎶
Oh no, not the censored version 😢. It's alright though, nice Beegees shirt
Really fun song, but the melody owes a lot to The Beatles "Lady Madonna".
I was looking to see if anyone else had picked that out. 👍
I Love Sublime 😍 but they were a Ska band. Meaning it was Reggae Hip Hop Rock fusion. Not original, but the best band of that genre to me. No Doubt debut album, and the guys who sing Red, Red Wine are also Ska bands.
Ska is not “reggae hip hop rock fusion”
British band UB40 did Red Red Wine, adding to the absolute legendary list of class UK aka acts along with Madness and The Specials!
@@brittyn No, but this wave of ska (Sublime/ND/Goldfinger/etc.) was. They weren’t very specific though, I understand :)
@@sp0ngeb00b7 not third wave either.
He was influenced by Jamaican reggae music when he visited Jamaica
👍❣️👍
