Have a Rem. 1911R1 and a Glock 21. The 1911 is all class. The Glock is all function. Sort of like comparing a girlfriend and a wife: One looks great at the dinner table, the other is better at cooking a great dinner. Just can't have dinner with both at the same time, for obvious reasons.
+Mike P I agree with Mike, my wife (Springfield 1911 target model) is not only a hotty, but has never jammed on me, always shoots straight and is well maintained, she is an extension of me and all I can say is "can't beat a 1911 models rest - reset trigger."
The 1911 was an evolutionary design in it's day. It was the best option for the time, given what was available. Putting the two weapons side by side, taking all factors into consideration, no contest. The GLOCK is a much better fighting gun.
Just 3 minutes ago I was thinking of the comparison between the Glock 41 and the 1911, and I went to my computer and searched it on youtube. Yours is the first I saw and I'm glad I watched it. Good video, buddy. I've watched a handful of your videos, specifically on the 300 blackout, and they're great. Keep up the good work!
I would like to clear up any confusion. The glock and the 1911 are both single action because after you rack the slide and pull the trigger. It will release the firing pin, but if you pull the trigger again without racking the slide the firing pin will not fire. BullittMcQueen would you please reply to this comment if you believe I am confused. Thanks
well i'd personally feel more comfortable with more bullets in my gun. although your statistic may be correct, it's just something that would put my mind more at ease knowing that i can worry less about how many rounds i fire. as an Eagle Scout, my motto has always been "Be Prepared"! haha i'm also trying to choose my first handgun and i'm torn between a Glock and a 1911.
I guess I can throw my 2 cents into the pot. Yes, glock is a very nice gun. Yes, it carried a lot of fire power. But let's face reality here. Being that I practice with my 1911 a lot, I really don't think that it would take 17 rounds for me to have to protect myself. If you can't stop a threat with 7 rounds, you either need more practice or you need glasses. 45 is a powerful round with more than enough knock down power to take care of yourself.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stopping_power "Sometimes "knockdown power" is a phrase used interchangeably with "knockback", while other times it's used interchangeably with "stopping power". The misuse and fluid meaning of these phrases have done their part in confusing the issue of stopping power. The ability of a bullet to "knock down" a metal or otherwise inanimate target falls under the category of momentum, as explained above, and has little correlation with stopping power." Everyone confuses this issue. Can a round from any handgun caliber send bad guys flying backwards? Highly unlikely. Can a round from any handgun caliber have *stopping* *power* ? Of course. Unless you completely deny foot-pounds energy which is one of the cornerstones of calculating ballistics. So what gives? This is usually used as a red herring from individuals who usually carry smaller calibers to justify why they are entitled to be at a tactical disadvantage.
I wonder if the 1911 is more accurate, dependable, etc... then why do more than 80% of the police in just the US carry a Glock? Just asking. Weight and capacity are a factor but wouldn't accuracy be a major concern, if not thee concern?
Glock has more capacity. Most police shooting is close quarter so precision is not a problem. Cops also doesn't want to carry .45 acp because of low capacity so they chose glock 9mm pistols. Later cops moved up to .40 sw glocks for more power but small enough for more capacity in the magazine. If 1911 had more capacity and comes in .40sw caliber, cops would consider but weight is still a concern. Marines still use 1911s
Owned many 1911's and they had two things in common factory mags often sucked and needed to be replaced and feed ramp partly on a lot of 1911's are two part one on frame and other on the barrel and work is needed to feed hollow point ammo reliably . MY Glock 19 Gen 3 more reliable than any 1911 I own including my Nighthawk Custom. Comparing the two aren't fair, Glock uses less parts and needs lubrication, just try running a 1911 nearly dry for a long duration.
I had a Glock 21 3rd generation sold it. got a Glock 22 3rd generation sold it. got a Glock 21 4th generation sold it. got a Sig 1911 still have it love it
Question did anybody shoot different types of hollow points through the 1911 and did the gun jam I like to know i was told that the gun like s round ball only
My 1911 I have had for 30 years, yet to see another gun come close to it, glock, xds, kahr cw, all 45's, glock came closet but not even close, xds was a turd from the get go, kahr was about middle, all failed to function with ammo my 1911 didn't even burp with the ammo they wouldn't function with. THAT is what a defensive gun has to do for me to carry it. LSWC'S did nothing but stove pipe or fail to battery. Ultimately, it's what YOU are comfy with as to which is best.
I have had a lot of problems with the "compact" guns, the feed ramp seems to suffer on it's feed angle. I mold and load my own, the 1911 will cycle everything I put through it, I haven't had a compact cycle a LSWC yet, all stove pipe or not go into battery. I feel a true defensive gun should shoot anything of the same caliber I put through it.
Fact is that its accurate enough in skilled hands. As for why they use it over the 1911, it will be for similar reasons to why UK military has switched to the Glock 17 over the Browning HP. Cost for one, magazine capacity and of course accuracy. Mag capacity is often a big factor for police or military though, and certainly if's a backup weapon, or for use as a primary weapon while clearing a compound where a long barrel rifle is awkward. Glcok is plenty cabable of tight groupings too.
Actually this is not the case. The UK military don't use SMG's really as standard equipment outside of special forces where they use MP5 etc. As for using a shotgun this is also not always effective. We use the combat shotgun that is longer even than the SA80 even with its stock retracted. So while pistol is mainly as a support weapon in case of a jam in your main weapon, it does have some use for any very confined space. Look up on here think there is video on its testing.
A lot of 1911 fail including very expensive ones. They're built a very high tolerances. They're nice but a Glock is less likely to fail and that's a fact
I even made a vid about it, it makes absolutely no sense. To compare a 1911 to a Glock.. There build is totally not alike, not to mention as you said, there over 100 years apart. I wonder how many, good handguns would have been developed. If the 1911, never was made?!
Michel Linschoten Good question. There's no doubt that handguns would be different if the 1911 (or HI-Power) had never been made. Look at the Luger action, or some of the other weird designs out there.
I'm still wondering why after u pull the trigger once and the firing pin fires why can't you pull the trigger twice and the firing pin doesn't go off? this is with no bullets in the mag or chamber.
+hunterbreaux The Glock is a sort of double action only. Sort of in that the striker is half cocked when ready to fire. The trigger brigs the striker to full cock before releasing it so in order to fire again, the slide must cycle in order to bring the striker back into the half cocked position
John Browning Never patented the design of a striker-fired semiautomatic pistol. Seems like he ripped off glock about 170 years before glocks came about.
The 1911's are absolutely beautiful pistols. But I must say, while nice looking, I see them have many, many failures when I go to my local steel matches, and competitions shoots. But I haven't ever owned one, so it may just be poor maint. My glocks have been spot on for me and all my buddies that shoot them. My 2 cents
+Travis Powell If they are Turkish and so on, then of course they would have failures. But if you have Les Baer, Ed Brown or even Kimber and Springfield you would surprisingly win most of your competitions (provided you can shoot). 1911 is unfortunately a very broad concept. 1911 is not 1911 if we do not mention the manufacturer, while the Glock is the Glock, the Beretta is the Beretta and so on.
Serious question, does the polymer become brittle over time like other plastics such as in cars? There's another test.. Will a 100 year old glock stand up to a 100 year old 1911. I guess we have to wait 70ish years to find out.
So, quick question, is there a physical barrier between the firing pin and the primer of the round on a 1911? I just bought an STI elektra and dont know if it is dropped hard enough the round gun will go off. I know the glock and beretta have that feature.
+Mike P The two springers I picked up needed to have the firing pin and springs replaced. One would have 2-3 FTF with each mag, the other would not fire at all. After replacing the Kalifornia mandated junk parts, both are 100% reliable now.
Well, I can easily imagine scenarios where 8 rds might not be enough. If a bad guy had, say, a Glock rather than a 1911. What if (try to imagine this) two thugs were intent on doing you harm. It's true that most defensive shootings are 3 or 4 shots fired. But if I'm going to carry anyway, I'm going to carry a gun that holds more bullets. It just makes sense to me, more rounds in the magazine improves your odds in every way. Whats the advantage in having less?
I had a glock and a 1911...im my opinion the 1911 is a little better. but the mag capacity does kinda suck. thats why i ordered a 15 round magazine for it! I just hope it doesn't jam.
I'd rather have more bullets in my gun in any situation I can think of, except maybe on the range. Pretty much every compact size and larger gun carries more rounds than a 1911. I'll take 10 .40s in my G27 over 7 or 8 .45s. I'm not knocking the .45 it's an awesome round, I just don't think it's good enough to do with fewer of them between reloads.
Right now you could probably get a 1911 for a little bit less than a Glock because of everything that is going on politically. Between the two I would recommend a Glock, I have a 1911 which is great also, but I would go with Glock because of the higher capacity, light weight, and I would say reliability, but most people would say they are about as reliable as the other.
Glock is better. However... I'd agree that both will be sufficient when the zombies come, since there will be a lot of parts available for both with how popular they are.
I would like to say that I took a concealed carry class today and the instructor had a glock cut out to show how a glock works and that you were right in the fact that the glock is a double action sorry for my comment earlier thanks
Well I think your "matter of opinion" is pretty much the consensus of most everybody, including myself. I have several pistols but not a 1911 yet. I am going to get one one of these days. Every time I pick one up, well, ya can't help but want one.
I also like the 1911 handgun, I live in the Republic Of California and we have limits on how many rounds you can have. I'm only in this shithole state because I'm taking care of my 93 year old grandfather, I'll be leaving this shithole state soon, then I'll be looking into buying more handguns with higher round capability. Thanks for doing this review... Cheers!!
I would take the high cap of a glock for protection over the 1911 which I would shoot at the range. When people say that you shouldn't need more than 7 or 8 rounds I'm like whatever man. They must think only one person will ever attack you. What about a group of attackers? yea you can have a buncha mags on you and reload, but the assailant might have a high cap handgun on them and still be blasting at you while you try to reload. Well if you had a 1911 in that scenario it would help if you had armed friends with you.
im good on that, not really common of an ammo for that gun. I mean, I'm not a glock guy or anything but a glock 19 or 17 in the common 9mm round , that thing got 30 round mags too plus 50 or 100 round drum. I do like the fn ps90 though.
I own a beautiful Rem. 1911 R1. Amazing finish, incredicle recoil control for being a .45. literally, after every trigger pull the sights are right back to where they were and that was the first gun I ever bought. so whoever said novices should avoid them, I highly disagree. I've always loved and enjoyed them. the design, the power, the simplicity. guess I learned with a harder handgun and that explains why everything else is a breeze lol. however, I am currently trying to find good prices on a gen4 glock 23.
WHO CARES? What ever clicks your trigger. Red head, Blond, Brunette? What ever works best for you. I have a RIA model 70 reminds me of my dad. It also fits my hand perfectly I can shoot it very accuratly. Best defense gun I like? My pump 12 ga with extended mag. Just have to walk stiff legged to carry it.
Philippines armforces,NBI, Police, army, scout ranger.marines, navy, custom, security never used glock and some gun manufacturer in the philippines never imitate glock design so far....
Steven Brooks Glocks all have very good nitride or tennifer finish, which i have never seen be a problem. as there are so many companies and so many different qualities of 1911, they are going to be more hit and miss.
+Stephen Esperson If you keep thinking that you would run around with a huge 30 or 50 r. magazine sticking out from your grip regardless if you have Glock or 1911 then I will even help you to keep thinking that.
Saying the Glock hold more is idiotic. 1911 have has double stack frames since the late 80s. 1911 is the thousand guns in one, it's the original and still is "the best customizable gun to date."
Stephen Esperson 1911 will never beat the Glock GLOCK is a combat weapon I had many 1911's had a lot of fijians with kimber's to I never had a Glock gen I got the 10 millimeter Gen 4 Glock is the only one that ever made it 10mm work still makes it today 1911 so pretty combat weapon I will take the Glock that's my opinion you might take the 1911 good weapon but I think the Glock is more reliable
depends on the caliber. if its a 45 the 1911 will be way better because its all steel frame and will control the recoil better compared to that plastic garbage. but if its a smaller caliber then it doesn't matter as much. glock 45 cant hit the backside of a barn
The Para LDA (Light Double Action) model is double action your Para LTC isn't. The Para SSP, PXT and LTC are Single action, check it out bro. Typical .45 acp 1911's today hold 8+1 with early mags holding 7 +1, 10 + 1 competition mags are available as well. Gaston Glock will NEVER come close to John Moses Brownings' contributions and patents to the firearm industry, he doesn't have enough years left of life nor ideas-Gen 1,2,3 & 4 are all improvements to the SAME design. Luv both, carry both-
Also-never seen a GLOCK get dropped and discharge. The vid poster simply likes 1911s, no real comparison just bias. There are GLOCK users who would point out EQUALLY BIASED views about the 1911.
I'm not sure how you can see any bias in this video as I don't own any 1911's and I own 4 Glocks and the video is completely left up to the interpretation of the viewer.
No I have never seen a glock get dropped and discharge. But I have seen my friend shoot himself in the leg with his glock 9. He went to pull it out of the holster and tapped the trigger. Shot himself right in the thigh. At least I know I have a real safety in effect that is just as fast to pull as a glock with just the flip of my thumb. Everything else like my grip and sight picture is already ready to go. Just flip the thumb and pull the trigger. A trigger safety isn't a safety at all IMO
mazda64life - I've had GLOCKS( 22 and 21) for 16 yrs and never ONE friggin AD/ND!!! and in my career as a contractor and LEO, have rapid drawn my GLOCK, even snagged it on losse clothing, and the trigger just doesn't freakishly activate and fire- BUT any firearm can malfunction if NOT properly maintained
mazda64life just because your friend doesnt know basic firearms handling and safety isnt the fault of the glock. i know its a complicated concept for some people, but if you dont pull the trigger the gun wont fire. the biggest advantage of a glock is it will fire every time the trigger is pulled- its called reliability. glocks arent for stupid people that think theyre toys
@Pisda Batka- sad you and so many others have to remind the simple simons of basic gun safety! Age old debate? GLOCK has only been around for a few decades!!! Ever notice these vids come from folks on the farm, where there are dozens of DANGEROUS FARM tools and equip, yet they cannot fathom simple gun safety...
Have a Rem. 1911R1 and a Glock 21. The 1911 is all class. The Glock is all function. Sort of like comparing a girlfriend and a wife: One looks great at the dinner table, the other is better at cooking a great dinner. Just can't have dinner with both at the same time, for obvious reasons.
pinehorse Nice analogy!
+Mike P I agree with Mike, my wife (Springfield 1911 target model) is not only a hotty, but has never jammed on me, always shoots straight and is well maintained, she is an extension of me and all I can say is "can't beat a 1911 models rest - reset trigger."
pinehorse class? Class of antique maybe. I rather have functional.
pinehorse Damn this was deep! Good point.
Damn your a genius
I like them both. My G41 is for work, like a good pickup. My 1911’s are like classic Mustangs for fun on the weekends.
The 1911 was an evolutionary design in it's day. It was the best option for the time, given what was available. Putting the two weapons side by side, taking all factors into consideration, no contest. The GLOCK is a much better fighting gun.

Got my gun this morning from expansion2 on wickr glock19 gen 5.fired this morning and it was fine
i love them both cheers friend.
If I could only have one to defend with. I would pick the Glock. Glock 17 or glock 21 more capacity. Less chance of jamming.
I will take my 1943 ithaca 1911a1 any day. Shoots like it did in Germany
+Oliver Caudell That's a good one
Oliver Caudell it has fought in both WW1 and WW2
5 years later, but it's never too late BullittMcQueen. I very much enjoy your reviews. Just subscribed.
BTW, I'm learning to aim with both eyes open, but I still prefer shooting with one eye closed.
Mmmmm....let’s see...American Colt steel versus the stuff they make Tic Tac boxes out of in Austria. Tough choice.....
Not to mention when you pack-a-punch the 1911 it shoots explosive bullets, would take it over the Glock any day.
Thanks
Gaston Glock may be regarded as great for that one handgun, but the 1911 was not the only "great" firearm John Browning designed.
Amen
1911 isn't bad if you know how to maintain it and have the money to replace the parts because you will need to ALOT
well i'd personally feel more comfortable with more bullets in my gun. although your statistic may be correct, it's just something that would put my mind more at ease knowing that i can worry less about how many rounds i fire. as an Eagle Scout, my motto has always been "Be Prepared"! haha

1911 doesn't just stand up to the test a glock can
Ever see a 1911 and a glock in a "fire proof" safe after a fire???? One's still a gun, can't tell what the other is
Lol
Not all 1911's have steel frames and had the same happen to them.
I'm not going to base my purchase of those odds. But thanks anyway.
@@leoguy1609 don't buy junk
I have a 1911 and a Glock 19. They are both my favorite.

Glocks are 9mm 1911 is 45cal but im pointing to glock because bigger round capacity
I cannot stand comparing two totally different platforms. Makes no sense to me..
This is a great comment. They have almost one hundred years separating their development and are similar only in the most superficial sense.
I even made a vid about it, it makes absolutely no sense. To compare a 1911 to a Glock..

I would have both a Glock 21 for concealed carry and a 1911 for an all-around range, fun gun.
should have asked "Glock or M&P : which is better?"
Since when are traditional 1911's double/single action?
can someone please tell me what is the exact model, type and company( e.g colt browing) of the m1911 in the videos.
I like 1911 but I think glock is more
User friendly
All those bullets are great if it didn't jam after 2 rounds.. Glock has unbeatable reliability.
1911 hands down
and also which glock to pick 17 19 34 ? if the best glock is some other than these than also plz do tell me about that too.
Sunyan Pirzada depends on the job
I had a glock and a 1911...im my opinion the 1911 is a little better. but the mag capacity does kinda suck. thats why i ordered a 15 round magazine for it! I just hope it doesn't jam.
Glock is a superior platform. Even if it can't hold 3000 rounds like your magical firearm.
It holds 3000 Rounds?
I would like to say that I took a concealed carry class today and the instructor had a glock cut out to show how a glock works and that you were right in the fact that the glock is a double action sorry for my comment earlier thanks
Thanks, yes the Glock is double action only.
Well I think your "matter of opinion" is pretty much the consensus of most everybody, including myself. I have several pistols but not a 1911 yet. I am going to get one one of these days. Every time I pick one up, well, ya can't help but want one.
I didn't know Mr. Mackey liked guns.
and how many gun companies make some variant of the 1911? Truth be told, there are so many, I wouldn't be able to name them all.
Cheers!!
Chris Geary did you leave that shithole state yet?
Actually that is exactly what it means.
I love the 1911. It would never use it for defense. I can rely on a polymer for my life.
I would pick a glock
why?
#Glock 1911 is good for collections tho,.
+Fresh2DEEath Deestar yea i agree bro its a good collector, and very pretty gun to show to ur friends. but a Glock u show to ur enemy
Trying to seriously answer the question of which is the better gun is dumb. It's "Which would you prefer?"
Then just get a five-seven. They come standard with a 20 round mag, and they make 30 rounders
im good on that, not really common of an ammo for that gun. I mean, I'm not a glock guy or anything but a glock 19 or 17 in the common 9mm round , that thing got 30 round mags too plus 50 or 100 round drum. I do like the fn ps90 though.
Don't you belive in time traveling glocks? They are fantastic. Even through space and time they have unbeatable reliability.
1911 is fantastic, but fire power goes to Glock so for that reason alone the new kid on the block wins the debate! Hmm I see a model 21 in my future!
A glock is truely a fine combat weapon but most cant shoot lead ammo
But a 1911 can.
But
how much does that 1911 cost?
Christian Campbell It's my dad's but I believe it was somewhere between 500 and 1000
Really cool looking gun. I'll have to get one eventually. My mom bought my first gun for my 21st birthday a week ago. I got the Glock 21.
H&K VP-70 - Granddaddy to the Glock.
GLOCK
+Mike P ill take the plastic fantastic. because glock rocks!!!!
+Mike P 8 shots vs 17+ its just no brainer
+Mike P 1911s a 1911 is a pretty gun. it's a gun you show to your friends and a glock you showed to your enemy
+Mike P 8 shoots and hope you hit em with the buick
+Mike P 18 vs 7 u do the math LOL
before glock came about what was 1911 compared to and now that the glock is here you have all the gun company copy and be
bruh, 13mins? hell nah, can anyone tell me which one is better?
Just watch the video. YOU need to tell yourself which is better
Philippines armforces,NBI, Police, army, scout ranger.marines, navy, custom, security never used glock and some gun manufacturer in the philippines never imitate glock design so far....
for me glock mi favorite glock 23 Gen4 .40s&w
Glock is still better.
How is the metal treatment on 1911 compared to GLOCKS superior metal treatment please. Hard to compare and not fair to both fine pistols.
Steven Brooks Glocks all have very good nitride or tennifer finish, which i have never seen be a problem. as there are so many companies and so many different qualities of 1911, they are going to be more hit and miss.
The power is equal. 1911 has more beautiful design, Glock has more magazine capasity. What is more important to you?
thehotsixer1 :) I like that.
more magazine capacity? sure...keep thinking that.
Stephen Esperson 1911 will never beat the Glock GLOCK is a combat weapon I had many 1911's had a lot of fijians with kimber's to I never had a Glock gen I got the 10 millimeter Gen 4 Glock is the only one that ever made it 10mm work still makes it today 1911 so pretty combat weapon I will take the Glock that's my opinion you might take the 1911 good weapon but I think the Glock is more reliable
depends on the caliber. if its a 45 the 1911 will be way better because its all steel frame and will control the recoil better compared to that plastic garbage. but if its a smaller caliber then it doesn't matter as much. glock 45 cant hit the backside of a barn
glock
1911 as far as the trigger and accuracy.
president excellent pistol fantastic great alot of fun shooting there great excited everyshoot perfict fantastic have nice day ***^^^***^^^
Glock, duh!
Neither is better. That's the compromise.
1911
Never had a glock never will
make something better than glock i think that tells you something
T Bags long lost Brother
I would pick up a 1911
I prefer 1911 45 cal
@Pisda Batka- sad you and so many others have to remind the simple simons of basic gun safety! Age old debate? GLOCK has only been around for a few decades!!! Ever notice these vids come from folks on the farm, where there are dozens of DANGEROUS FARM tools and equip, yet they cannot fathom simple gun safety...
You need you need to study up on what single action and double action actually mean. What you said in your video is not correct.
