The right hand railing going up looks to have been used for bringing Diesel fuel down to the generator. The "Dieso F 76" on blue background means Diesel fuel weight 76. Had a similar system on one of the government radio sites I work on, it was established in WW2.
The size of this place is just incomprehensible ! I would love to see these old war time places and infrastructure opened up as museums etc, such a shame they are locked away for years to come. Great video guy's !
The springs on the valves are anti hammer units that absorbs the pressure of the stopping oil when valves are closed. Similar to those you have on domestic water lines where washing machines connect to Maine water. You know, that "Bang" in the pipes when taps are quickly shut! LoL
It's still being broken into ! Last time the steel doors were disc cut to gain access ! Also believe oil storage tanks still have few feet of oil fuel in them !
@@28YorkshireRose12 I to was wondering what type of engines they were, my guess would be Perkins. Maybe we should get Ian to have a closer look at any engines he finds next time.
Jonathan Pipe do you know where the entrance is? And whether it’s still accessible? I’m really interested in exploring this as I’ve lived in Portsmouth all my life and never knew this was beneath it!!
Theres more counter scores above that engine so must maybe have been a platform at some point above it makes sense having the window view on top wonder if it was fully incased to prevent fumes etc and a massive exhaust system running somewhere, the exhaust exit would be a good find it's got to have one somewhere extracting it outside
The large rings were most likely used to rise and lower heavy equipment down the ramps next to the stairs. They could have acted as a block and tackle or blocks could have anchored to the rings.
Wow what an engineering feet that thing is just amazing can you imagine how many years just to build that and then get it set up and now it just sits there abandon wow that's crazy.
Interesting to see the chalked counters on the shaft wall 5 lines and a score through them done 3 n half times if saw right, wonder if they got weekends off haha.
Hi so very interesting and so much huge machinery that is so deep in all of that thickness of concrete it’s all mind blowing to think how long it must have to build it all and how years and at what cost? Once again guys brilliant footage 👍😊
The square holes cut in the sides of the stairwell could've been locations for collapsing/demolition charges as they are near corners in the stairwell. They would've been covered with tin sheets and be standard 1lb blocks of TNT individually sealed in tin casings to protect from atmosphere and water. Used either to seal the stairwell in case of invasion or to seal it in case of fire in tge storage tanks.
Просто нет слов! Офигеть!!! Вот это инженерный подход, я понимаю. Не верится, что на такой глубине находится всё это! Вопрос: а где топливные ёмкости, баки или судя по размерам этого сооружения - танкеры?
Canny leave nothing alone cooper even nicked out this place,! These places should have rema top secret no doubt they'll see action again sometime maybe not in our life time but at least these places still exist for future back ups
if your big into WW2 history and exploring old bunkers and batteries then IKS, Sub Exploration, and WW2 History hunter are all great guys with great channels check'em out
Sweet to see some of the places but kinda stupid how they don’t re use them or make them into something storage or in case the world goes in to world war 3 but we will see I guess keep it up
So glad you share these With us. Impressive structures indeed. Thanks for sharing and Greetings from WW2HistoryHunter
What an incredible achievement of engineering from back in the day and hats off to you guys climbing every single step! Crazy.

Amazing how deep underground that place is! It shows just how important it was protecting the fuel from German bombs. Thanks for sharing guys!
Brilliant video Chaps, great editing too! Thanks from Jamie & Chloé No.1 fans here

I love it havent had a good laugh in ages 😂😂😂 oil boarding down that ramp 😂😂😂
Loved the whole thing, as always. The ending music and montage were A+, folk. Keep up the great work!
Another great British engineering feat and as usual hidden well below ground. Yet crossrail is a farce whatever happened to all the real engineers?

Lol? You laugh at pipes?
This channel gets better and better, that was awesome and loved the stairs slide 🤣🤣👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🛸🛸
we apologise for all the puffing and panting that occured during this video . Another top video great stuff .

Looks like the engine they were looking at was stripped of it's aluminium.
@@MegaDirtyberty probably ! Surprised anything is still left !

Morning from across the pond.
That's some crazy stuff lol and the Slide well ...that was epic .

A few bits have been pinched off that generator diesel engine!
All them stairs😩 made me exhousted watching 🤣 great video IKS as always 👍🙂

Great video. Incredible amount of engineering and you wouldn't even know it was there. I suppose that was the general idea though!!
You suppose?
This place should be a museum folks from Kernow EXP
Looks like a drill into the ground near the end be first onshore oil supply rig lol
Marvellous, folks.
You guys should check out the fuel bunker at Alness scottish Highlands it's just as big
Cool video watching before I go work 👍
Fantastic video loved it guys 👍👊

Amazing machinery .. you don't see much of that these days. Of course there are impressive big machines but not for the public to see.

forget getting sponsors for torches etc get weetabix to sponsor ya just for those stairs : )
i wonder if there was any tank inspection hatches in there
Hey folks!
Very entertaining , thanks for the video.😂

You are just playing a slide.
that place was used well after ww2
That correct folk it was indeed :)

Muy bueno!!!
Keep waiting for a ghost to show up on the GoPro footage....
You'll have a job. They don't exist
At 34.25 it looks like the trash compactor scene from star wars.
