Setting boundaries is the healthiest thing you can do for yourself. I haven’t spoken to my mother or my brother in years. My life is better without them in it. Feel free to share your feelings. If your subscribers didn’t like you as a person, they wouldn’t be subscribers. I don’t watch planty videos for the advice because I’ve been growing longer than most of you have been alive. I enjoy seeing everybody’s plants & the planters you choose for them. It helps keep me mindful about taking care of mine on those days I don’t feel like it. Now, it’s time to water 💦

Yes, beginners (like moi) appear far more freq than you realize. Every video I watch I learn something new, doesn't need to be a tutorial. 22yrs ago I got my 1st pot plant, it died. I decided you need to be a gifted type of person to keep plants (no internet back then). Now I soak up as much content and 3 months ago I treid again. The spider plant and wow, it may be the easiest for beginnerd as everyone says, but I'm shocked I didnt kill it. My wife says stop staring at it, it won't grow any faster. Don't care, this is the beauty of nature! LoL

I thought I wouldn't want anymore kids after my two boys, but I was wrong. My second was about to turn three and it just clicked in my mind and heart that I so desperately wanted to have a third and we did. We had our daughter the following year and couldn't feel more complete. Now I think about having a fourth, but I think we're good on bio kids. Hopefully one day we're fortunate enough to bless more children into our home. ❤

I love a repotting video. I also loved the very beginning, with the sound of each pot getting set down. 😂 I'm also a huge fan of black and white pots. I think any color plant pops in a black or white pot.
You were kinda hard on yourself in this one though, and I was worried about why. Then you mentioned everything you have on your mind. That is so much heavy stuff! I'm glad you've found running to help lift yourself up. I don't have any kids, so I don't have any advice on that, but I have experienced family drama and removing family members from my life. It's not easy, but if it makes you feel better, then it's worth it. Lots of love to you!

I love your "oversharing" about thinking about having another baby. Because it's such a personal thing we don't often hear people's thought processes and I often wonder if I'm alone in my doubts or dreams or what have you. I so relate to not wanting to sacrafice your body for pregnancy and everything after. I waited till have my first son was 3 to get pregnant with a second because it was so hard on me and I needed lots of time to recover and rejuvenate.
One more thing then I'll shut up 😂 my mom had two more babies after a divorce and remarriage 9 years after she'd had her last baby. They have changed all our lives for the better and my mom has no regrets. Pregnancy gets harder the older you get, but if you have previously had babies in your 20s, miscarriages and health issues do not go up. You've got time ❤

Exercise has always been the thing that heals my brain. It’s hard when you’ve played competitive sports for a long time and then *boom* you’re a mom and the most exercise you get is lifting kids for a few years, running or jogging if you’re lucky enough to be that capable. I’m so happy to hear that running gives you what you need mentally also.

Harli, I've been watching your videos for many years, from before you first got pregnant, and whilst I still like plants, the main reason you are such a great TH-camr is your kind, authentic, oversharing, self-deprecating, reflected and absolutely hilarious (harlirious? hehe) personality ❤ sharing in your struggles (losing loved ones, just generally coping with life) and rejoicing in your successes (opening up a plant shop, combating post-partum depression, getting chickens!!) brings me so much happiness on a weekly basis. I hope you know what a positive influence you have on your viewers, no matter how difficult or elaborate the times or topics may be. Sending you a hug from Europe!
And in order to actually contribute something to the discussion: I used to only buy black or anthracite coverpots because I was struggling with visual overstimulation in my home, esp. once the pandi hit. I still think most plants look good in them but since then, I've grown much fonder of special pots. A marbled glaze sends me onto cloud #9. A weird shape? Y-A-S. matching them with my plants is more of a feeling. Love how you can articulate the reasons behind your pot choices. I would looove to see a hanging Hoya like a Mathilde in that white shroom planter!

We waited a bit, then stopped trying not to have a baby and boom 💥 I was pregnant quicker than ever 😂 you’ll NEVER regret having another. And as long as you continue to run up until you’re pregnant you CAN run that much during pregnancy.

Adding to the kind comments- I’m just recently graduated and my husband just got his first full time job. I’m struggling to find a job and am part time and I miss having the time I did with him. It’s super comforting to know that you- someone I see as a bit older and wiser than me, struggles with this same thing. I think I worried people cared less as they were older because “that’s life,” but I love him and our family so much I don’t want that longing to ever go away.

After my mother unexpectedly died 4 months after my grandmother (a legit southern matriarch) passed, my brother and I reacted very differently and I had to take space from him for over a year for my own health. We are good now, talking, and hanging out and such. . . You're doing the right thing. You focus on You and your wellbeing. Do what you need to. It's hard, I know. Hopefully it isn't forever. But even if it is, better a "forever" as a happy mom and daughter and wife and fulfilled joyful self than not. ❤.. also! Dont ever apologize for sharing your struggles or how you feel. i love using busy pots for simple plants, i have my hoya gracilis (memoria) in a patterned blue bowl from aldi that broke so i repaired it and painted over the cracks with gold paint. i also think hoyas like living in random dishes rather than nursery pots. they are to houseplants as cats are to dogs 😂

I say go for it. I have 3 and would have regretted not having the third. If you’re going to do it now’s the time. Then you can rehab your body for good. The longer you wait the more independent your littles become and it may be harder to go back to diapers and dependence. Of course just my opinion and the way I felt. Whatever you decide, enjoy your decision. 💖

    Potting choices - I don't think I have something you don't know, I love second-hand finds, I agree about interesting/basic planters etc.
I will just say something that seems obvious in hindsight, so I want to make sure nobody repeats my mistake: I had placed a succulent in a vintage kettle. I put it in the sun, because it's a succulent. The metal kettle heated up and prwtty much cooked the poor thing. So.. avoid metal - beteen heat catching and rusting - avoid metal

Succulents are definitely NOT boring. They are BEAUTIFUL. Especially the Echeverias. They come in so many different colors. And I love propagating them and how easy they are to grow from cuttings. And I also love experimenting with them. Seeing what will grow from leaf babies. And so much more. Succulents are better than tropical plants IMO. Tropical plants are so boring to me. #SorryNotSorry 😅
But seriously succulents are AMAZING plants. They are pretty much the only plants I enjoy and have in my collection. I have over 300 succulents. Including aeoniums, aloes, agaves and cacti. But most in my collection is Echeveria. #Obsessed ❤😂

I think our society is ok with us cutting off contact from toxic people, but they are incredibly judgmental if those people happen to be family. I have had zero contact with certain family members for years due to abuse, and it has been the best thing for my immediate family. Stand up for yourself and do only what makes you feel better. I Just finished really disheartening plant chores - restarting 6 of my anthuriums.. 😩 but it was way easier when I saw that you posted another video! ❤😉 As for the "Oversharing" conundrum: I really enjoy and appreciate your open attitude 🥰, though I don't blame anyone who doesn't share personal information. If I may give you an advice on the 3th Baby issue: As someone who hast struggled with mental problems quite some time, I noticed that I've Always felt some void in my life. As in "if only I could find/get that ONE thing, my life would be perfekt and I would be completely fulfilled. But when I got it, the rush lasted shorter and shorter and the hard reality Struck Harder and harder. For me that was finding the perfekt Partner, now it often is getting the next exciting plant 😉 but i also now know that the void inside cannot be filled with Something external. And it doesn't even have to be filled. As soon as you make Terms with the fact that you are never going to be complete (else you couldn't be growing inside) you don't experience the void as a problem anymore but as a chance of life to surprise you. Or at least I hope. 😉 So instead of acquiring new stuff, new skills, new hobbies or distracting myself in any other way from that hollow Feeling, I more and more dive into it, allow it to be there, without getting torn away. That helps me to be more grounded. 🌳 Please excuse my bad Englisch by the way.. 😅 have of the mistakes are one me, but the other half is on Auto correct which is permanently trying to Help me.. 😂 Lots of Love from a plant friend in Germany ❤

I found out I was 5 months pregnant at an annual ob appointment having a boy. I was 39 and was not expecting it. I ended up having an emergency c-section and pre eclampsia. I went no contact with my sister for 3 years. It was difficult because of the backlash from family members, but it was such a healing experience for me. On a lighter note, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you could do a video on how you make your soil mix!!! ❤️

Oh Harli, I'm telling you, we have so much in common! I too just went no contact with my sister about a month ago and to be honest, I haven't been happier or more in peace than I am now. I feel like what you said is spot on regarding boundaries. I don't know what your issues are but I was sad/annoyed as the sister with children when I watched your camping trip on your mom's channel. A comment was made that made me feel so triggered because I too have 2 boys. Sending you a big ol' hug from California!

I am definitely here for the oversharing 💕 I have 2 kids and I knew from before conceiving the second one that that was going to be it for me 🤭 so if you have doubts it's definitely worth exploring it and seeing how you both feeling with the idea of more kiddos, for your body yeah you won't be able to do as much but it doesn't mean you have to give up running completely and if you keep working out during the pregnancy it just means you will heal faster and get back to it in no time 💁🏻‍♀that said I found that the second pregnancy was harder and the first I was 5 years older (37 😬)... so it's also something to consider... but you are a lot younger! I don't know hahaha I'm not being helpful hahaha sorry!

31:48 girl, don’t ever be sorry for sharing yourself and what you want.
I’m sort of in the same boat. I’m 32, oldest of 6 with 5 nieces/nephews. In my adult life and relationships, I’ve felt I never wanted children because at one point, I was a kid raising kids. Not only that, but my health problems are a huge factor to consider. But we just had the 5th baby in the family and even though I didn’t feel this with any of the other kiddos, I cried like a baby holding him for the first time. It made me realize I don’t have that much longer especially with health problems.

I have been thrifting for a while, on pots. Now I am switching to white pots, even if they have blue in them or green, etc. The shapes are what I cannot find. My favorite of yours has to be the aloe Vera plant and pot. I must have that, lol.

I’m going to be the odd man out and say that we went back and forth on having a third baby, but ended up sticking with just 2. I don’t regret it at all, ever. Especially with teenagers with mental health struggles, 2 is enough! I think with your PPD struggles and how happy you seem right now, you should start looking into fostering or adopting. Keep your mental and physical health that you’ve worked so hard to improve. Just a stranger on the internet sharing my 2 cents. 😂

I really like to match one type of pot to one surface, i.e.: my dresser only has plain terracotta pots with all sorts of plants. I think it focuses the attention on the plants while the array of pots are all matching. it’s like talking to someone who’s wearing a nice outfit, you’re looking in their eyes, but you just know they’re well-dressed and it adds appeal to the conversation.

I use clear pots and then put them in cover pots. I tend to pick either white, taupe brown and at times black pots but textured/patterned so they aren’t so boring. I get a lot of my cover pots from IKEA because I can never find anything while thrifting….sometimes estate sales but not usually and if I do they are terracotta pots. My sister and I took a trip to the Texas border before all the craziness started and we purchased Mexican Talavera pottery. I use those outside because i absolutely love bougainvilleas and I have 5 or 6 different colored ones. They look beautiful in those pots.
So sorry to hear about your sister but there is no perfect family out there. To me, it seems like my sister enjoys putting me down because I have gained weight. I started taking my weight more seriously and I’ve been on the weight loss journey for about 6 months and doing well. It kinda helps I had my gallbladder removed and I can’t eat what I used to so that makes it easier. As much as it hurts, I don’t lash back at her but I don’t go out of my way to spend time with her either. I don’t enjoy her airing my problems with people which she feels compelled to do so I prefer just keeping myself busy with my plants, husband, life, etc. on weekends. I love being at home after a long workweek of driving around town making sales calls. Anyway, chin up…boundaries are good. You’re doing the right thing and the time away from each other will let in a new perspective.

oh my god, I have the same problem with the dried up roots because the prop glass went empty unfortunately my plants are alocasia and maranta, so I think I just have to start over and hope for the best 😅
for pairing plants & pots I don´t think I do anything special. I like to hold the planter up to the plant or place the plant in the pot to see how they look. I then also take the other pots around it into consideration, so I don´t end up with all crazy colors on one side and only white on the other. And if I have a pair I like, I make it work. like planting in a nursery pot and then placing it in the nice pot if it´s too big, or drilling drainage holes. I have a planter where I want to plug up the hole for a water reservoir situation, but haven´t done that jet.
I have like 50% of my succulents in terracotta pots (also a few grey ones) and also love when they have patina.

It's so hard not talking to your own siblings that you used to be so close with. I had to stop talking to my oldest brother for about 7 years but I saw major changes in him that I regret not getting back into contact with him sooner before he passed. I'm not saying "but she's family" just that if the relationship when it was good was something you cherished, watch for the changes if you think things CAN change and reevaluate in the future. Nothing has to stay the same if you don't want it to

I understand not being able to talk about things because there are things I still can't talk about after 10 years. You feel like you have to relive it to tell about it.
