Great videos, sell on ebay myself, more as a hobby than a living as I love the thrill of buying something for £1 and selling for £20. Hate low-ballers, had one yesterday demanding I take there £20 for a £100 item, I tend to just ignore them. Great informative videos.
Thanks very much! For me, I think the partial refund vs return argument often depends on what it is and how badly I need the money ;) If I'm feeling flush and it's something I think I let go too cheaply then I will often ask for the return, but I recently had an instance with an iPhone where I had fitted a new screen (badly) myself and it had gone wrong and I could either send a refund for the cost of repair (which is what I did) or get the phone back and have to deal with return postage, refunds and a wonky phone. Similarly, when I had a complaint about a silver coin many years ago, I knew it was a stunner so I chose the return and got my coin back! Thanks for sharing!
recently received neg review before the buyer ever said anything. then I offered her a full refund and to keep the item. she ignored me and left the review. some people would rather just be negative and ruin others business
Jackson that's very true, some people just like to cause trouble like that. I think the worst feedback I ever got was from something which cost £3 / $5 and their only issue was that the item was "cheap rubbish" which was true but if you imagine that half of the cost was for postage you shouldn't be surprised that the item is "cheap". I really need to make a feedback video soon as I think it's a big issue for a lot of sellers. Thanks for sharing!
I'm not if you're aware of this but if a buyer leaves a neg without first contacting you and giving you the opportunity to resolve the issue you can usually get eBay to remove it. I've had lots removed along with neutrals although they are not as good as removing neutrals
@@JeffsWig That's good to know, I once managed to convince someone to remove a negative feedback (with a full refund, of course) but I've never tried to get eBay to remove one. Thanks for the tip 😁
@@JamesDoesThings no problem. I always put a request in to eBay first. You’ll usually get a decision within an hour. If they refuse I then approach the buyer by which time I’ve had time to calm down. I’ve got 11 thousand sales with 100% feedback thanks to this method. Lots of sellers aren’t aware of it
@@JeffsWig you are likely top rate plus seller, that why ebay are more willing to help you. Im a top rate but not plus. And it’s a hassles to get feedback removed. UK sellers are tanking the markets, I'm from Canada so its not really affecting me as much but you guys always have the lowest prices item and fighting for the bottom
wow! really? I always think of us as being expensive but I know our last couple of prime ministers have been working hard at obliterating the value of our currency, which might be part of it. Are there any particular things you think that are cheaper here than in CA or the US? Most of the thing things I deal in aren't made in the UK so I often see things a lot cheaper in both North America and Continental Europe.
@@JamesDoesThings Yes I think the currency drop has something to do with it but for the last year or two, every time I comp something or list (I mainly sell toys and collectibles) the UK sellers have the lowest prices.
Another ruse buyers like to try to pull is the "horrible packaging" or "you didnt send the right item", etc, etc. My reply to them is always a lengthy: "You can send the item back, if it's in a different condition than what my listing shows, or not the item(s) shown, you WILL be deducted 50% refund per Ebay's returns & refund policies. You will have no item and 50% of your funds. Be prepared to present your information to ebay as I will present them with the 4K video I have at my packaging table that is zoomed to fit the item and processes showing the exact item, how it was packaged, and the proper shipping label that was applied." Hi, thanks for sharing this story, sorry I didn't reply sooner, I only just saw it in my comments. I have never had anything quite that severe and I have never been sued (!) or sued anyone but I think the litigation opportunities are different here in the UK. I'm glad you won the case and I think if I was selling something worth $5k I would probably video myself boxing it up too. Did you actually get the $8k?
@@JamesDoesThings The buyer went to mediation stating they were never served. That wasnt a valid excuse. Magistrate and my attorney allowed the case to go to mediation. They worked a new deal. I eventually received $1,900 from the suit based on vexatious damages (waste of time, false claim). I do not know the exact amount the buyer had to pay the courts, my attorney's costs, etc. That's why you pay attorneys - they do the work. I wasnt even a big seller 4 years ago. Maybe 1000 listings. Now I have ~4,000 listings. Lots of media and small items (less than 1lb weight - um, 450grams?). And ALWAYS record myself as I stated in my first comment.
Derek thanks for clarifying; it's really interesting to hear how it works in other countries. It's good to hear that you have continued to grow on eBay, despite that setback! 😀
I had someone send me back a pair of oakley sunglasses that were totally not the ones I sent. Ebay made me issue a refund and I had to pay return shipping on the glasses that were wrecked. So they got a mint pair of oakleys for free and I ended up with a wrecked pair. They were the exact same kind and colour. I was pissed.
I had the exact same thing happen with an item that I sold. They immediately opened a return 30 seconds after I got the notification that the item was delivered then shipped back a completely destroyed item that had marker writing all over the case, but the one I sold was brand new still sealed.
@@kalen01 I know. eBay didn’t help me either. They said that their policy is that because they don’t physically touch the items they side with the buyer because they want to keep buyers happy. That happened in October. I had proof that the buyer sent back a destroyed item that definitely wasn’t the item that I sold, but they ignored it and made me refund the buyer.
@@PickingVegasandBeyond yeah the buyer said I never sent what was described in the listing even though I totally did. Not totally sure how something like that could be avoided. Seems like the seller always loses that battle. The buyer in my case got a free pair of glasses worth 500 bucks and I was out my glasses and money. Really discouraged me from selling on there again and I told ebay that and they basically said take a hike.
@@kalen01 unfortunately that’s just part of selling on eBay. You’re going to get scammed. I’ve been selling on eBay for a long time and I’ve been scammed multiple times, but I’ve learned that it’s just a part of eBay. eBay doesn’t really care about sellers. I actually had an eBay rep go crazy on me once because I was going through a bunch of nonsense with a buyer who seemed like they were trying to scam me and eBay at the same time and the buyer basically pissed eBay off, and I was trying to find out what I was supposed to do, but the rep snapped on me, and flat out said that she didn’t care what I did because eBay didn’t give a damn about sellers because if I left eBay 3 more sellers would take my place, and they wouldn’t be so difficult to deal with. I ended up having to hang up and call back because that rep was going nuts. I’ve spoken with that exact same rep twice over the years and both times she had a horrible attitude as soon as the conversation started and just got worse the longer we spoke. I don’t know how she still has a job because I know I’m not the only one she’s been like that with. Another thing you just have to learn to deal with is negative feedback for no reason because some people will just do it to do it. eBay has outdated policies and they probably won’t ever be seller friendly, but money is money. The thing that I’ve been most annoyed by lately is nonpaying buyers because I’ve had to list 50 items again because the buyers never paid.
