It's such a small detail, but almost no booktuber does it: You putting the name of the book and the author in the corner is so considerate and helpful!
I really appreciate it! There's so many times I've had to rewatch a clip to catch the book because the booktuber mumbled and they won't stop moving the book so I can't read it
"Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe" and "Aristotle and Dante dive into the waters of the world" are two books I will recommend to anyone
Now this is how you start off your Friday right! He looks so refreshed and with new energy. I’m glad he took a break so he can come back. Thanks for another quality upload Chris! ❤
Thank you. I enjoy your channel as well as Benji's. Your channel is getting me back to reading on a regular basis. I decided to start on the five-book series Court of Thorns and Roses. Also, instead of buying the books on Amazon, I purchased them form a locally owed bookstore near me. Happy anniversary to you and Benji.
I just finished reading Annihilation as well, and I even had my dad read it because I wanted to talk to someone about it! He's more of a traditional si-fi reader, so he didn't enjoy it as much as I did; he mentioned that it left him with more questions than answers, but I found that to be thought-provoking and actually beneficial to the plot of the book itself, since the whole point was discovering things in Area X but still not understanding them. In that sense, it really felt like I was exploring alongside the biologist, and the atmosphere of suspense and unease really added to that too. SPOILERS AHEAD >>>>>>>> I actually had goosebumps and felt like I couldn't breathe during the scene where the biologist encountered the Crawler, it was so intense. Also, I enjoyed the fact that the novel is written as a recount of the expedition. This leads me to believe that the biologist is somewhat of an unreliable narrator, since the recounting of events in Area X are dependent on how well (or poorly) the biologist can articulate what she saw, and if she omits or misconstrues events as a result of her unreliable memories or from the effect Area X has on her. Maybe the story would've been different had she not had "the brightness" in her, since that could've been affecting her perceptions of things.......... Just food for thought! I'm still debating whether or not to continue with the series; part of me is content with where Annihilation ended. Thanks for reading this long-winded tangent! I'm excited to hear about what you read next!
You and I have the same reading habits! I also either devour books or read very sporadically. There's no in between lol. I tried reading Tress and the Emerald Sea but didn't get very far. The humor didn't vibe with me well. I really enjoyed Legendborn though. I agree with being annoyed by the characters early on lol, but the concept and twists were really cool and interesting to read about.
I appreciate that you mention you sometimes wish to reread a novel, so i know i am not alone in that. Once you know how the puzzle fit, its nice to go back and see how the build up works. I actually have it now with a SF book - "The first fifteen lives of Harry August" by Claire North. I didn't know what to make of the book in the beginning, it flips a bit between genres, but now i am glad i have read it. I d love to reread it again now i understand the rules of the world she describes. I love books you can think on a bit longer...
Have you read "The Raven Cycle"? It's fascinating YA series with queer characters, ancient magic, tarot, love triangles, cars, religious doubts and cozy suburban vibes. Also I would recommend "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay". It's an alternative story of creating comics in combination with historical events of mid century and personal quests. And the last will be "Blindsight" - a twisted hard sci-fi about intelligence, loneliness and survival
I would love a video exactly like this but more spoiler-y!! I’m not as huge of a reader and I’m just probably not gonna read as much as you but like a non spoiler + a spoiler review where you go more in depth with the plot and like reveal things about the story would be super enjoyable!
The last book I finished was Perfume by Patrick Süskind. It’s about a man in 18th century France with a spectacular sense of smell. I highly recommend!
It felt so good watching you reviewing books. Love it when you talk about books it's so natural and I can imagine how I would feel if I read the same book
I have had the same relationship as you have with reading. Now that I am ill, I find it more difficult to read and I cannot enjoy books that I used to. I have started reading YA fantasy novels because of my nephew and nieces recomendations and surprisingly I have enjoyed them.
I just finished Tress of the Emerald Sea and agree with you that I wish the ending was not as predictable. I did really enjoy the book and it was the perfect thing to read on vacation!
Right now I'm reading The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches! It's a cozy found-family type of story. I think you would like it if you haven't already read it!
I read Annihilation this year because it's one of my favorite films. The novel was good but I do think the movie is better. I also tried to read the next two books in the series but I had to give up on the third one because I just couldn't get into it. But I guess I always think the first entry in a series is the best.
I really loved Annihilation the movie and also have the book in line. Also, this is non-fiction, but Braiding Sweetgrass is like my favorite book of all times for real like I am not just saying that. Worth giving it a read.
I was on the fence about emerald sea but I do think I’ll give it my time. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend The Fisherman by John Langan. Rich history. Amazing lore and a magic system I want more of.
I LOVE the Legendborn series. The magic system is so cool and idk about you, but I read the book in tandem with the sudiobook and the narrator does a fantastic job immersing you in their world. Also, yes, Sel is hot and I hope she chooses him over the white kid.
I’m reading Orbital by Samantha Harvey which just won the Booker prize. I will look out for Annihilation as it sounds interesting. I haven’t watched the film yet.
I'm not a sci-fi fan, generally, but magic is a bit different, and Legendborn sounds interesting. I resonated with your comments about books vs. movies and how by necessity they must be somewhat different. On the other hand, I hate it when they change a movie to the point that it does not resemble the book on which it's based--particularly the ending. Generally, I read books before seeing the movie, and the movie often is a disappointment. But I have watched the movie Red, White, & Royal Blue several times and it has become one of my most favorite movies. (perhaps because it's uplifting during troubled times in our country) Anyway, I decided to read the book, and it is vastly different from the movie. I've not had time to finish it yet, but I'm tried to accept that it's a different story, and that helps. But I am a romantic, at heart. BTW, Chris, your hair is getting quite long. I rather like it. 🙂
Have you read Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune? It’s the sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea. I loved the first book so much as a standalone, so I’m not sure if I should dive into the second lol. I would love to hear your thoughts!
TJ Nichols Mytho series, MM fantasy where the mythological creatures are refugees from there home world which we destroyed by using science beyond our understanding. Highly recommend, it’s a great read and pretty quick if you get into it.
I think the book is usually better than the movie except for the Godfather, the movie was way better. I used to read so much then I got depression and reading wasn’t the same, it’s hard to concentrate. Right now I’m in the middle of reading two books and it’s hard to focus. I need to build my reading muscle again.
I want to get back into reading again but I can't seem to find a book that suits my taste. If any of you here in the comment section knows a book that's like a combination of dark comedy, triller, murder mystery, scandalous affairs, & chaotic characters, please let me know. ❤
Is Imaginary Friend by Stephen chbosky on your list? He was the author to perks of being a wallflower flower if you liked that. I also really appreciate your approach to content creation 💛 it's more fun watching what makes you happy than you stressing about what you think will make your viewers happy
I need someone who is a reader and also interested in self-help books and about relationships and languages to read with each other and motivate yourselves ❤😢

your eyes are like two blue opals they’re so captivatingly pretty
Yes!
💙💙
You described his eyes just like how books do it.
Likewise!
I feel like we need to talk about Theos sneeze because I'm loosing my mind at how adorable that was
I’m so happy that you are back reviewing books.

It doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated when you say that just finishing 4 books recently is okay, because it is! The point is to enjoy the reading ✨
Yay we’re back to updates 👏🏽
P.S. Slump Solidarity LFGGGGGGG

Now you have to read the rest of the Southern Reach series (Authority, Acceptance , and the latest, Absolution).
I appreciate that you mention you sometimes wish to reread a novel, so i know i am not alone in that. Once you know how the puzzle fit, its nice to go back and see how the build up works. ONG FINALLY A NEW VLOGGGG
My impression of Legendeborn is that it’s tropey. It’s as if the author puts everything on in from chosen one, to found family, to love triangle etc.
And the last will be "Blindsight" - a twisted hard sci-fi about intelligence, loneliness and survival
i adore your channel so much 🥹💙 thank you for the consistent uploads, no matter what the content features

I have a book recommendation - Claire Keegan's "Small Things Like These." Very moving, thought provoking and deep. Not light or YA, but gripping.
Loved your Julian Vlog ❤ and this one too
I recently read Dracula, and im doing a Percy Jackson reread!!
Aw that sneeze ❤
The last book I finished was Perfume by Patrick Süskind. It’s about a man in 18th century France with a spectacular sense of smell. I highly recommend!
It felt so good watching you reviewing books. Love it when you talk about books it's so natural and I can imagine how I would feel if I read the same book
I swear, you can do an ASMR bookread and it would def cure my anxiety and insomnia 💆♂️💆♂️💆♂️ look forward to more of your uploads

Just in time to watch while eating lunch! Its always nice to watch your recommendations 🐞
Tress is amazing. It’s written in a much more lighthearted tone (like Yumi and the Nightmare painter), and it is easily one of my favorite books now.
I love your soft spoken voice describing your love for bad boy characters lol
Right now I'm reading The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches! It's a cozy found-family type of story. I think you would like it if you haven't already read it!

i just added some of the books you mentioned to my 'want to read' list! thanks!

"Babel" by Rebecca F Kuang is also a good take on colonisation of magic theme
I LOVE the Legendborn series. The magic system is so cool and idk about you, but I read the book in tandem with the sudiobook and the narrator does a fantastic job immersing you in their world. Also, yes, Sel is hot and I hope she chooses him over the white kid.

What is a good first Brandon Sanderson book to read? I'll add it to my library queue.
Currently reading rhythm of war by Brandon Sanderson and acceptance by Jeff VanderMeer 😭

I love you watch. I'm from Russian
Try Anathem by Neal Stephenson. Caution, you may end up as a drooling vegetable sitting in a corner and Benji will have to go find a new b/f.
read lonesome dove
❤
