out of all the tragic scenes in Titanic, this is the only one that makes me tear up... every freakin' time!!! i love how it begins...all of the other music band members say goodbye to the lead and leave...thn they hear him start playing Nearer my God to thee, and so they all come back, and play it with him, understanding that it's the end! I love how music makes it a bitter sweet end...
Exactly, this scene gets me every time. Because it also showed the other people that accepted their fate. Like the elderly couple that held each other in bed, and the woman who read her kids to sleep after realizing they locked all the lower class people inside since they didn't have enough lifeboats. Ugh so sad.
this song gives me chills knowing over 1500 souls were lost when the titanic sank. there she lay in eternal rest at the bottom of the merciless North Atlantic who never gives up her dead when the ides of April fall upon us each passing year. there she lay in her resting place where she landed at 30 past 2 am on the morning of 15th April nineteen hundred and twelve. only a sinch over 900 bodies were recovered. men women and children who only wanted to start a new life, a new beginning. rest in peace to those who were lost. may they have found the light and followed it into heaven, the paradise of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. the home of our God.
This is heartbreaking I defy anyone not to be moved by this tragedy. I saw the Titanic Exhibition with all the genuine artifacts letters etc and I can tell you when I got to the musicians article and read it together with the pocket watch that was given to a survivor in one of the boats to pass to his wife I was crying my eyes out in the museum! God rest them all and may they NEVER be disturbed.
Just imagine, for so many this was the last bit of music they heard, and now we are listening to the same piece, music really connects in so many ways....

we will never forget them they were true gentlemen because they calmed down all those who were dying in the icy waters or dying from drowning or falling from falls or slipping on the ship that was tilting and who were scared and the muiscos played nearer the my god that calmed people down who were scared knowing they were going to die
Evrytime I see the movie and hear the song, I cry. Specially when an old couple lay in bed; and the mother telling a goodnight story to its kids. It hurts when you know it did happen.
The scenes that get me is obviously when the little boy and father get washed away, and then seeing the elderly couple cuddling holding hands while water is coming in, and then see the mother putting her two babies down to sleep making sure they are comfy not m knowing what is happening so they are calm, Cora’s deleted death scene, seeing the children saying goodbye to their parents, and this scene where the musicians play this song as their final goodbye.. RIP to all the souls lost you will never ever be forgotten. 😭💜
I was listening to this at work while it was cloudy, and as the song continued, the clouds slowly lifted away to reveal the sun. If that doesn't emphasize the importance and impact of this song on our world, nothing will. ❤
A fitting song for what's ahead for the human race. We are all sinking into the abyss, and this is our first test. There is a lot more to come. God bless all of us.
May those who died rest in peace with the Lord. They are in a better place filled with love, and joy there is no hatred there. The musicians make me cry how they stayed together, how they said its a privilege to play music with one another, how they stayed and did what they lived until the end. R. I. P 😭❤️🚢🌌
Yes... all very British, what? Stiff upper lip and all that in the face of certain devastation. Why they never knew when they were losing so that in the end they fought hard and won the day.

This is the first song i learned to play on my viola and violin, years ago i watched the movie and after that i studied about Wallace Hartley and how his violin was found and then given to his fiance and then years later it was found in an attick if im not mistaken and sold,i remember my grandmother talking about the sinking and how sad it was when i was a child she was born in the late 1800s,she said it was the biggest news of the time back then, everytime i play my violin i play this song in remembrance of those who lived and died and its sad and beautiful to me at the same time.
Dear all, Let us pray for all the souls who died at this ship. God our heavenly father give love and grace to all. Once comes the time when we see us by god in his home.
I read survivors stories that a Scottish pastor named John Harper put his 6 year old daughter in a boat and stayed to try to get as many people saved before the ship sank. He urged all women, children and the unsaved to get into a life boat. He told the musicians to play nearer my God to thee. Even while in the ocean he was urging people to turn to Jesus so they could go to heaven. Amazing stories connected to this song ❤
I love this song too , makes me tear up too . So sad , like one of the comments below says they all say good bye then the lead plays solo then they all come back

The hymn played at funerals and the end of the world as the souls of whom we have lost ascend to heaven to be in happiness, peace and enfolded in the arms of the Lord. This Christian hymn retells the story of Jacob's dream. Genesis 28:11-12, which can be translated as follows: "So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it..."
jackie boy There was plenty of room on those bloody boats, but they didn't LOAD them to capacity. More lives could've been saved due to that.
