Factorio is scary. Like, genuinely. It makes days and weeks just disappear
There was a period during lockdown in which I luckily didn't have to work, but there was at least one week that got completely absorbed by factorio lol
I was a productive member of society once. Then I discovered a combination of Space Exploration and Krastorio.

I would still watch a whole Hardspace: Shipbreaker vid tbh.

Same here, was so hyped when I heard it’s OST kick in
I saw factorio in the thumbnail and I clicked. Eventually you will graduate from hundreds to thousands of belts, to hundreds to thousands of trains. My friends and I call it "cracktorio" and we frequently go on weekend long benders.
I had some absolute cracktorio sessions during the pandemic - adult obligations have kept me away since which is probably good in a way!
I can't speak for farming sim but american truck simulator and euro truck sim 2 are somehow the most thrilling things in the world to me. perfect brain numbing material (happy to see you back btw!!!)
I did actually have a brief dalliance with Truck Sim a while ago - it was more therapeutic than thrilling for me but def enjoyed it more than Farming Sim!
Finally, the algorithm has done something good - amazing little video much deserving of more views, I'll be sure to take my vitamin dads

This video reminded me that hardspace shipbreaker is on my steam wishlist, and that I should probably buy it. I just wish it had a vr mode.

you should check out My Summer Car man, its not a classical "dad game" Id say, but theres few things as chill as building a car while getting absolutely hammered, then drunk driving a tractor down a dirtroad to the next town for 15 minutes, just to grab even more beer from the store

Thanks for validating the neat little category of games I just realized I almost exclusively play. Vintage Story is my crack of choice currently, because there is something very soothing to the lizard-caveman-dad brain about collecting and hoarding massive amounts of preserved foods in a neat little cellar underground with a good nutritional balance through sustainable farming and hunting.

Dad games are great, I play so many of them. If you want a Dadgame that is driving based, Id recommend MudRunner or its 2nd game SnowRunner.
And Crackorio is a dangerous game at times.

someone should make a FNAF clone where you play as a suburban dad reading the the newspaper occasionally being interrupted by your wife jumpscaring you. Although now that I've thought of it it probably does exist.
Wife Simulator 2024
I've discovered a sub-genre of dad games - the old dad games. As my father nears his 80th birthday, he gravitates more and more towards games with familiar game mechanics, like Civilization 5, or classic games CnC Generals. Like with other things in life, I think he feels like the world has changed too much and that he doesn't have the energy to keep up.
This is 100% going to be me when I'm 80, still playing the same games I like now. I never got into CIV but I used to like Age of Empires and Rise of Nations so maybe it's worth another go
The weird thing about farm simulator is how many actual farmers enjoy it. I know people in real life who spend their day working an actual farm, go inside, and work a virtual farm
Yeah, same as truck sim and games like that. I'm sure it works for some people but I didn't have the attention span for it lol
I'm taking in the Hardspace: Shipbreaker idea and putting it in my free time schedule now that I'm divorced (might make me a better dad)

Hardspace is great. But the story actually makes the game worse IMO, wth how hamfisted it is.

I became a dad when I got medicated for ADHD, started a business and still love games, but have no patience to sit playing one, especially if they have any long-winded story. These days I can only stomach games made of pure gameplay: Trackmania, Lies of P, Factorio, etc. And after an hour I am done. All the cool RPGs, 100h games and my ironman OSRS account are for when I'll be retired with a lot of time to kill. Anyway, thanks for the recs, dad.
