Speaking of 2016 wanting its resolution back (1080p) - I've been trying to request that games provide more useful system requirements, e.g. based on 1440p 144hz High Preset RT OFF. This is getting increasingly more needed, perhaps you can encourage them also.

I find it really funny that the 4060Ti review on another channel says "thanks" to nvidia in the title. After watching both videos, I believe GN's video does a much better job of painting the correct picture of the 4060Ti.
It's actually the opposite. Nvidia is releasing garbage because it knows AMD screwed up with RDNA3 and wont offer much uplift this gen. So the order is more AMD screwed up -> Nvidia tries to milk the market with garbage products.
At this point I'm convinced that Nvidia is just trying to see how much they can get away with before it screws them bad enough that they need to release a good product.
They really don't care about the gamer market anymore. They just care about AI and data centers now. Their product line up and pricing if proof of that. You can buy their overpriced crap and be happy about it, or they will just sell to enterprise customers who are happy to get the chips. This is the dark ages of gamer GPUs all over again.
50 series may be the last consumer GPU they release if they keep going like this. This last year, data center became their leading sales channel, and it's supposed to 10x over the next 7 years. If that's the case, then I wouldn't expect them to want to devote any of their production capacity away from AI.
Mainly because no bugger could buy a card for 2 years due to being out of stock or way way overpriced ;). Try keeping the cards to a realistic price and people will buy (but not this card which according to reviews sucks eggs).

Seems like the reason why Nvidia is investing so heavily on dlss is so they can charge more money for a card and skimp on the actual hardware to massively increase profits.
@@regardzz Exactly. I love DLSS, it allowed me to play most games at 1440p on my *2060* before i switched to AMD, but it was never designed for 1080p, only Quality really looks ok and that doesn't give nearly enough of a performance upgrade.
yeah as soon as I saw dlss gimmick coming I knew it they don't want to give us raw pure performance uplifts but upscaling gimmick bs this might be another reason why they killed sli because 8k gaming was actually playable on dual cards with at least 24gb of vram in games that supported sli I feel if they decide to bring sli back next generation they will charge even more for the top cards on blackwell.

I have a 12700K waiting for a worthwhile graphics card on a good price. I'm playing indies and old AAA games at this point. (you wonder why i have the niche 12700K CPU, i do heavily CPU intensive work). I'm dreaming about a 3080Ti that a privileged friend has.
Nothing changed about the lower skus. The only one that changed was the 4080 12gb to a 4070 Ti. 4070 Ti simply wasn't going to exist in any capacity when these were announced. RTX 4070 and anything lower than it were sold as planned spec and name-wise.
If you’ve been watching financial news, Nvidia is doing great right now as a stock because of AI, and their high end data center cards like the A100 are in extreme demand. My hunch is they’re starting to view PC gamers as less of their core segment and just something they “maintain” for some extra funding while they invest more in their data center cards and that side of their business. Look at how they’re pushing DLSS. AI is clearly their thing.
@@trask9100 Idk, intel processors seem to be doing fine. AMD will definitely overtake Nvidia if this keeps up (the only reason the 4090 was so powerful is because they just slammed that bitch with as much wattage as they could). As for intel cpus, they definitely need to find a better way of getting more out of them, though they did hint of a total redesign of their architecture after the 13900k basically peaked what they architecture could do
@@trask9100 AMD has been plodding along in 2nd place for so long in the GPU and CPU markets that I'm not sure if they'll know what to do once they reach 1st place in both. Either way, with AI being such a huge thing right now and for the foreseeable future, I'm going to guess gamers and other casual PC users are already an afterthought for all 3 companies.
Is it just me who thinks that companies should have their assets seized if they over-earn? Like if you have 500 employees, and you can afford to pay all their paychecks and keep a lot in reserve and if you still make about the 200fold of that, that this 200fold should be taken away for the public interest and/or distributed to the public?
This is because the 4070(Ti) is actually the real 4060Ti. Based on die naming and die size...Nvidia shifted the whole stack down. IN other words...yes, yes they DID increase the price. Because the 4060Ti is actually a $400 4050Ti. And so on and so forth.
Yeah, looking at the power use, this is like a 4055ti, or an over powered 4050ti, as it's just above the power limit of the PCIe connector, and needing a molex power.
That's why you ALWAYS look at price/performance. That way it doesn't matter what die size / product name it carries. It's just awfully priced like every current gen GPU is.
What's concerning is that if this is supposed to be the 4050 based on die size and name and power draw, then the 4060 is actually some kind of 4040 low profile thing and the inevitable 4050 is - got help us all - actually supposed to be a 4030. Nah, don't like that. Not one bit.

love pascal generation I must say, i replaced the GTX1080 with RTX4070 and the performance boost is huge. but still expensive imo. if u have strong cpu and 600-650W psu i would say wait a little and grab 4070 with game bundle like diablo 4 ect.
*sweats in GTX1650* In all honesty, I think it depends on the usage a lot. I play exclusively single player games so I'm happy averaging 50 FPS and 1080p medium is good enough most of the time. If I had a 1080Ti I know I'd be set for at least 2 years with my usage habits.

Intel does hold the scaling crown, at 1080p it competes in its price class, but at 1440p, it competes with cards $100 more. Ditto with RT. When Battlemage comes out, AMD will be embarrassed with RT and Nvidia will be so ashamed it just makes server cards for a generation.
I had a 3060 Ti before I managed to upgrade to a 3080 and I thought that card was really impressive. With a pretty mild overclock, I'd get pretty decent framerate at 1440p on most games. It felt like a good upgrade compared to the previous gen. The fact that it somehow rivals the 4060 Ti is madness. What the hell are NVIDIA thinking with this new gen of cards? It's ridiculous how bad the 40-series is.
4060 is just really 4050... Invidia obviously shifted the model numbers. 40 series Is not bad, it's just stupidly expensive. They moved the numbers up so people would feel less the increase in price.

My 3060ti is a lot more aggressive on watts than my 3070 leans too, but if I pull it back on performance enough to make it more efficient for work loads, the 3070 pulls back ahead for how much it gets done in how many watts. Never tried pushing high watts, wasn't ever my goal.
it's not NVIDIA's doing, it is the fact that games are utilizing much higher levels of graphic fidelity, including ray tracing, than they were back in 2016, while also being blatantly lazy with their PC ports. as a reminder, DOOM Eternal can run on max settings including ray tracing at around 60 FPS on a 3060 Ti. add DLSS into the mix and you're golden. turn of ray tracing or go down to 1440p and you're golden. the fact that modern AAA games can't reach this level is 100% on the devs and the engine they're using, not NVIDIA who is just the messenger.
@@saricubra2867 you'll be paying close to the same price for a 1080 Ti and won't have (good) access to ray tracing or DLSS unless you buy it used, and i'm not sure buying a used card from 6 years ago is a good idea to begin with. that is to speak nothing about their performance levels in comparison.

@@justinc2633 AMD still has RT issues, it’s no longer a gimmick, entire games are being built on RT, and while AMD cards perform far better on Raster, being slower on RT locks out a ton of new releases
Competition drives everything. AMD made a comeback on the CPU market, driving competition and thus resulting in massive increases in both core counts and performance at both AMD and Intel. The opposite has happened on the GPU market. AMD has fallen behind, especially when it comes to RT and software features, resulting in complete market dominance by NVIDIA and thus a total lack of improvements apart from a few very expensive halo products such as the 4090.
Xx50s have been pretty trash. Gtx 1050 was worse than a 960. 650 was equal to a 550 ti. And those were the good generations. 4060 ti 8gb should be a 4060 between $250-$300
I have a 1080p monitor and wanted a desktop build for playing any games at max FPS possible. The best GPU available in my budget was the 4060 ti 8 GB. The 16 GB version was +120 USD over the 8 GB version. I have been able to play all games so far at over consistently 120 fps at max graphics (no dlss), example: wukong, hitman WoA, and so on. The 4070 was even more expensive and considering that I only needed something for 1080p gaming the 8GB version with my budget limit seemed to be a no brainer. I have used it for last 6 months and had a great experience.
it's a good card considering its price and competition, regardless of what crypto/gamers complain about. works very nice for compute tasks, blender or 3dsmax, where it's almost 40% faster than 3060 and at a lower power usage. sure, 8gb from previous 12gb isn't pretty but again, look at the competition in compute tasks and you have no choice
Every class card successor has handily beaten its predecessor (3060Ti vs 2060 Super) while the class lower down matches the class above of previous generation (3060 vs 2070). But this one is literally 4060Ti is functionally tied with the 3060Ti (sometimes loses to it). This indicates that the "4060Ti" is really a 4050Ti or 4050. This is insane.

It's basically a 60 card charged at 80 prices and called a "70 series" despite the fact GTX 780 was $600, 980 was a $550 card, GTX 1070 was $380, 5700XT was still $400 and it was literally Turing that they began jacking prices which they changed to $500 and $700 the 70 and 80 cards. Then they had the fuckin audacity to call it "great value" because they began being astronomical with 2080ti prices so they honest to God in 2020 tried to advertise the $500 3070 as "fantastic value" even though not long before it would've been a $400 card, and we see now how badly made that GPU was with some of us even before release grumbling about how big an impact the VRAM was going to have. I had no earthly idea they would STILL refuse to put 16gb on their cards and keep trying to use 8gb. It's dead on arrival. 8gb is not even good enough to enable raytracing at 1080p ultra. It WILL lag, stutter, and crash at that bad VRAM, like the 3070 did on TLOU with ultra settings or Hogwarts using up all that VRAM and there isn't any real way to "optimize" for it without ruining texture quality. You can't upscale around it either, you wind up with bad looking muddy textures. So it was already a problem before alleged 4060ti yes, and yeah pricing was already a problem since years ago. They been making consistently worse product and charging ever more prices and it's clear their whole plan all along was to slowly turn water temperature up and hope the frog doesn't hop out the pot too soon. They were going to keep doing this forever until enough gamers finally abandoned the brand entirely. Some type of people will push up on you and they literally will not stop until you throw a punch and set boudnaries. That is why we have police and military in the first place, because some guys like that get to power and the only way to deal with them is hit them in the face and tell them to stop or the beatings continue. Such case is nvidia right now. They realized they could keep increasing price and their customer would still buy it no matter what, so they wondered if they could just rename lesser cards as higher end and keep selling worse hardware for higher prices too and hope nobody noticed or complains. The also tried doing this with the alleged 4080 12gb but outcry was already so bad before launch they basically just renamed it 4070ti.
I dont think this really comes out of nowhere. The 2060 vs 1060 was already almost no progress, if you considered how the former also got a price hike, 2060s were priced like 1070 IIRC. The 3000s GPUs were clearly better, but continued the high prices and had low VRAM compared to AMD offerings. Mind AMD had 12gigs in 6700 and 16 gigs in 6800. Meanwhole 3080 was 10 gigs. Funny thing is, Nvidia for some reason put 12 gigs in the 3060, which was actually pretty generous for that level of GPU. Tho that card still had lower performance and higher price than AMDs 6600 XT. Now this 4060 TI is an absolute joke, almost a regression with price increase, but lets not forget this BS started to happen after the 1000 series.
Nvidia is more stable though, the odd amd driver crashes are irritating (not full system) it does usually recover but still yeah should have got a 4080
I appreciate that you guys always include FF14 in your benchmarks. As a popular game that runs on an older engine, I think it's important for people to see what they can and can't expect when it comes to performance scaling, particularly in the CPU side of things

@@master8127 sometimes I look into the minimum requirements for games on Steam. And a few times I saw "720p 30fps" as a additional note to the minimum requirements. At some point we start to compare to the Wii again.
I get the feeling the 4090 was supposed to be a 4080, 4080 a 4070, 4070 a 4060, 4060 a 4050...but they rebadged them and charged 50% more than they are worth...
They got balls ya know They unlaunched not launched $249 4050ti and rebranded as 4060ti for just $399, bold move to cope with the losses generated by unlaumching 4080 12 gb and selling it as 4070ti. Best marketing ever. it will sell anyway.

I don't know, nvidia may have the 5060 use a 109 die with 96bit bus to save a bit of money for more profit. Then it's DLSS4.0 which makes the 5060 card the new 720p gaming gpu... (Yeah I hated writing that prediction..)
Would be interesting to see how a PCI-E 3.0 motherboard drags this card down further. I would guess the performance delta vs my 1080ti would be less than a 5% improvement

@@MikeHammer1 I'm not sure if that is entirely accurate ... I understand this 8 lane card would be using 8 lanes of PCI-E 3.0, not the full 16 lanes of the bus., with a data rate of 7.88 GB/s. Card theoretically has a higher data rate then that. Please let me know if my conclusions are wrong here. I would expect there to at least be a small degradation in performance
@@joelewing4216 There is truth to what you wrote. First, I was aware that Nvidia dropped the number of bits on the memory bus from 256 to 128, but not that they also cut the PCI-E lanes used in half. With only 8GB of VRam some games will run slower on a PCI-E 3.0 system. This has been proven by some TH-camrs who tested the card on both systems. Most games run on a PCI-E 3.0 system ran with less than a 2% FPS reduction. There were some worst cases that were down almost 10%, but would not likely affect playability as the reduction did not seem to cause any visual stuttering or excessively low frame rates. Nevertheless, shame on Nvidia for making the 4060 Ti actually be such a poor performer. When I recently decided to upgrade from my ancient (10 year old) 1GB ATI graphics card I looked at both the 3060 Ti and 4060 Ti and decided on the 3060 Ti as it was $130 less and would run anything at 1080 and 1440P without issue. Both cards will run 4K, but at reduced quality. As my core i7 4771 intel based system has PCI-E 3.0, I am glad I made that decision. FYI, I bought an Asus TUF 3060 Ti for $320, new. The TUF 4060 Ti model was running $450 at the time. I am happy with my decision. I wanted to buy a new graphics card back in 2020, but I refused to be scalped by prices over MSRP.
@@joelewing4216 Nope, this is COMPLETELY and totally incorrect. PCIe 3.0 vs 4.0 has literally NO effect on a 3090 at x16, as tested by gamers nexus and others. At x8, this gpu should be totally under the available bandwidth. Gpus dont ever saturate PCIe 3.0, at least on x16. I thought this PCI gpu bandwidth rumor stopped being a thing around 2017...

From the charts it doesn't seems so since the gulf between the 60ti and 70 is big enough to fit a "Super" or 2 in there, where the original 4070 was meant to be (according to Nvidia. So that means the 60ti was always meant to be *intentionally gimped* at this performance level...

I have a 2018 EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra with 8GB and play at 1440P. 5 years later, these GPU's still have 8gb??? I'm not upgrading for a while. WIll probably use my card until it dies or I rebuild the entire system but my 9900k cpu still runs just fine.
Thus the reason many gamers were slow to move off their 10-series cards. That was the last gen Nvidia offered exceptional value. AMD cards were slower and cheaper back then, yet Nvidia price and performance was undeniable. Nvidia has a lesser performance lead (in mid to low end cards) than the 10-series era yet offers very little value today even with their last gen cards.
It performs the same as the previous-gen card despite reduced memory bandwidth but adds DLSS 3 which greatly increases performance at no cost... I can't really say I fully understand the complaints. None of Steve's charts include DLSS3 for some reason. Disappointment comes from the gap between expectation and reality. Did anyone expect this card to be cheap in light of recent events? Does anyone think AMD will do better? Only Intel is playing the value game right now, and it makes sense because from very recent first-hand experience, their drivers are a pile of ass. I have a 3080 I'm not looking to replace until 5000 or 6000, but I'd LOVE this in a laptop.

That's the point. Cause they are still trying to move that merchandise. ?080 has been roughly been about 80% of the performance of their best card. Not 55%! Lol 4000 series is as a whole outside of a 4090 is a waste of time, and 4090 is a waste of money.

The best value 12gb card I can find on the new market is the RX 6700XT, it pushes 100+ FPS in most of the recent AAA titles while costing like 300-350 usd
The insane thing is that I have a 3060Ti that I use as a 1440p card primarily, and it does pretty well for that! The fact that in so many of their new cards they're "aiming for 1080p" blows my mind. 4k was cutting edge like 8-10 years ago, we should be at the point by now that at the VERY least 4k is common in the mid-range cards, but they're still trying to push 10 freaking 80. insanity.
And the other crazy thing is that the 3060ti can handle 1440p just fine, yet some people will look at you like you're crazy because they think it's still 2014 and a 60 series can barely run 1080p
The consoles are using less than 1080p in some games lmao. Instead of using 1440p 60fps as a new default, they are pushing more demanding games that can't even keep 1080p at 60fps.
gotta also take into account that after buying all these overpriced parts, gamers usually dont wanna spend more than like 200 bucks on a monitor which usually results in 1440p max, maybe some cheap crappy 4k monitors
@@GuilhermeGuidugli Issue is more that the card is 400 bucks and has a bunch of bottlenecks that will limit its performance at 1440p. Let alone 4k, and you can forget that GPU for VR anyway. Its just losing out at higher resolution, kinda like 3060 or AMDs 6600 XT did.

I got a 3070 this past Saturday and I tried Fortnite and I noticed the fps was locked at 60 and I change the settings to try to max the fps to 300+ and only managed 120 at 1080p. I’m not very experienced with the gpu and pc technology and how to play around with settings! Pubg was dropping 260 without me touching nothing until I played with the settings dropping to 120. 😢 it even stuttered and and was kinda laggy.
It's refreshing to be brought back to reality, it feels like Nvidia is just living in their own reality and hoping if they say it out loud enough times we will beleive them
They got screwed the moment they tried to fix the price to mining frenzy level without absolutely anything to back it up. Honestly even their top tier has the same gen-on-gen improvements that have always been there for any new gen for the last 10 years. It was a money grab from launch.
Too bad the 3070 isn't included in the test. There have been price cuts which places the 3070 at 429 euro for a model with RGB, backplate and 4 fans, which are usually a bit more expensive than MSRP. This makes the 'premium' 3070 cheaper than the basic 4060 Ti.
This, I thought I was just being blind and couldn't find it. Also, tomb raider is fine and all even tho no one plays it, but can we just move on to newer games? Like Dead Space and RE4 would be cool to see.
@@justinvanhorne8859 for that price on Nvidia's side? The next available card that has more VRAM would be the 4070 for 649 which is 50% more expensive. Or you go down to a 3060 12GB. But that card is is much slower than both the 4060 Ti and the 3070. For that price (429) in this market the 3070 is an option you can at least consider. The irony is that in the past I often set texture details higher than other settings. For example you could run textures on ultra but other settings had to be 2 steps down (very high>high) in order to get decent FPS. On a 3070 that would be the other way around. So the question for that card is; are you willing to turn down texture detail settings. Which I guess comes down to personal preference.
In Honor of Nvidias new card I ran this video in 144p resolution so I could look forwards to the sort of epic visuals I can expect. Pixels have never looked so large and wow Nv have invented the GPU Tardis in 2023.

@Zoran Not all review channels can afford to buy a new GPU at launch, so the thing where Nvidia sends out a GPU for them to review is good for them. @zoran6850 Nah you cant really do that as tech review channel. LTT talked about that once. If you are just a few days late (which you will be since review samples are send out early) you loose most of your viewers and most of your revenue because people will just watch somebody elses video.

I feel like these should have launched as 4050 and 4050 Ti, for $200 and $250. The 4070 should likely have been the 4060 Ti with 12GB and the 4070\4070 Ti should have had 16GB

Definitely. Those mid/lower end AMD cards, especially the refreshes, are a surprisingly good deal. My friend recently got into PC gaming so I bought her a 6650 XT for about $250 and it has really impressed me.
I remember pushing my CRT to >1440p resolutions... ....in 2008 and was playing at those resolutions consistently with a card not costing more than 400USD (I think at that time it was a 7800GTS 640MB)

Even aside from that, the argument is utterly insane, because it assumes that people playing at 1080p now won't want to play at a higher resolution after a hardware upgrade. As though they just prefer 1080p over 1440p rather than being limited to 1080p by hardware. Nvidia's marketing about 1080p is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it should be. What would make more sense: 1) "Only 23% of gamers are able to play above 1080p. With the balance of performance and price for our new cards, we want to see that number grow."; or 2) "77% of gamers aren't able to play above 1080p. With our new cards we plan to keep it that way."
Or because GPUs are so damn expensive people cant - or dont want to - afford 1440p to 4k GPUs for the ridiculous prices. Especially considering even 1440p 144hz screens are so affordable, its just so stupid to sell a 1080p GPU with gigs of VRAM for 400 bucks!
No kidding, I’ve been rocking a $140 used 5700 XT for months. It may not be a beast, but it’s quite capable and will easily last me until $400 buys a truly noticeable upgrade.

what do you think about getting the 16gig version for people looking forward to gaming AND AI stuff? AI things, such as StableLM, can be quite VRAM *amount* reliant, so the 4060ti16gb basically sounds like a 3060ti that can do more AI stuff (AMD is not really an option at all for AI for several reasons), but the question is if the reduced bus bandwidth could perhaps make the extra 8 gigs useless in the end? sure you could load a larger model, but so what if it takes absolutely ages and works slowly

Monitors at my work are 1440p and I can assure you that the upgrade is noticeable. People would upgrade in a heartbeat if it wasn't as expensive for a decade long.

Nvidia has basically tried to sell what is essentially a x050 tier card as a x060 tier card. Same thing they did with the 4070 and tried to do with the 4080 12gb. Pure greed. They didn't want to give up the profits they made during the mining boom and shortages, but eventually realised that gamers weren't gullible enough to continue paying those sort of prices, so they've just shuffled the sku's around.
I laugh every time I hear someone convince themselves they need Nvidia vs amd because of drivers or they use blender to make roblox dance move vids. I guess they are the reason I got 2 6700xt so cheap.. lol.

@Moriarty well, it's not. If you're willing to and going to drop well over $1000, it's strange to settle for the 4080 with just how much you get for upselling. Its specs and pricing look like it was designed as a high end consolation buy, expecting 4090 to be hard/impossible to find. All these products were planned out with a sales expectation based on gpu shortages. What we're seeing with the entire 40 series is what happens when a company tries to gouge its customers right before the market bottoms out.

Nothing changed about the lower skus. The only one that changed was the 4080 12gb to a 4070 Ti. 4070 Ti simply wasn't going to exist in any capacity when these were announced. RTX 4070 and anything lower than it were sold as planned spec and name-wise.

If you’ve been watching financial news, Nvidia is doing great right now as a stock because of AI, and their high end data center cards like the A100 are in extreme demand. My hunch is they’re starting to view PC gamers as less of their core segment and just something they “maintain” for some extra funding while they invest more in their data center cards and that side of their business. Look at how they’re pushing DLSS. AI is clearly their thing.

AMD will definitely overtake Nvidia if this keeps up (the only reason the 4090 was so powerful is because they just slammed that bitch with as much wattage as they could). As for intel cpus, they definitely need to find a better way of getting more out of them, though they did hint of a total redesign of their architecture after the 13900k basically peaked what they architecture could do

This is because the 4070(Ti) is actually the real 4060Ti. Based on die naming and die size...Nvidia shifted the whole stack down. IN other words...yes, yes they DID increase the price. Because the 4060Ti is actually a $400 4050Ti. And so on and so forth.
Yeah, looking at the power use, this is like a 4055ti, or an over powered 4050ti, as it's just above the power limit of the PCIe connector, and needing a molex power.

I had a GTX 1080 and upgraded to a 4060ti recently. I play games at 1440p and have noticed a massive performance difference.
Every GPU launch I'm nervously looking at my 1080Ti and keep hoping that it lasts for at least one more generation.

In all honesty, I think it depends on the usage a lot. I play exclusively single player games so I'm happy averaging 50 FPS and 1080p medium is good enough most of the time. If I had a 1080Ti I know I'd be set for at least 2 years with my usage habits.

Intel does hold the scaling crown, at 1080p it competes in its price class, but at 1440p, it competes with cards $100 more. Ditto with RT. When Battlemage comes out, AMD will be embarrassed with RT and Nvidia will be so ashamed it just makes server cards for a generation.

I had a 3060 Ti before I managed to upgrade to a 3080 and I thought that card was really impressive. With a pretty mild overclock, I'd get pretty decent framerate at 1440p on most games. It felt like a good upgrade compared to the previous gen.

4060 is just really 4050... Invidia obviously shifted the model numbers. 40 series Is not bad, it's just stupidly expensive. They moved the numbers up so people would feel less the increase in price.

it's not NVIDIA's doing, it is the fact that games are utilizing much higher levels of graphic fidelity, including ray tracing, than they were back in 2016, while also being blatantly lazy with their PC ports. as a reminder, DOOM Eternal can run on max settings including ray tracing at around 60 FPS on a 3060 Ti. add DLSS into the mix and you're golden. turn of ray tracing or go down to 1440p and you're golden. the fact that modern AAA games can't reach this level is 100% on the devs and the engine they're using, not NVIDIA who is just the messenger.
@@saricubra2867 you'll be paying close to the same price for a 1080 Ti and won't have (good) access to ray tracing or DLSS unless you buy it used, and i'm not sure buying a used card from 6 years ago is a good idea to begin with. that is to speak nothing about their performance levels in comparison.

Competition drives everything. AMD made a comeback on the CPU market, driving competition and thus resulting in massive increases in both core counts and performance at both AMD and Intel. The opposite has happened on the GPU market. AMD has fallen behind, especially when it comes to RT and software features, resulting in complete market dominance by NVIDIA and thus a total lack of improvements apart from a few very expensive halo products such as the 4090.

4060 ti 8gb should be a 4060 between $250-$300
I have a 1080p monitor and wanted a desktop build for playing any games at max FPS possible. The best GPU available in my budget was the 4060 ti 8 GB. The 16 GB version was +120 USD over the 8 GB version. I have been able to play all games so far at over consistently 120 fps at max graphics (no dlss), example: wukong, hitman WoA, and so on. The 4070 was even more expensive and considering that I only needed something for 1080p gaming the 8GB version with my budget limit seemed to be a no brainer. I have used it for last 6 months and had a great experience.
it's a good card considering its price and competition, regardless of what crypto/gamers complain about. works very nice for compute tasks, blender or 3dsmax, where it's almost 40% faster than 3060 and at a lower power usage. sure, 8gb from previous 12gb isn't pretty but again, look at the competition in compute tasks and you have no choice
Every class card successor has handily beaten its predecessor (3060Ti vs 2060 Super) while the class lower down matches the class above of previous generation (3060 vs 2070). But this one is literally 4060Ti is functionally tied with the 3060Ti (sometimes loses to it). This indicates that the "4060Ti" is really a 4050Ti or 4050. This is insane.

It's basically a 60 card charged at 80 prices and called a "70 series" despite the fact GTX 780 was $600, 980 was a $550 card, GTX 1070 was $380, 5700XT was still $400 and it was literally Turing that they began jacking prices which they changed to $500 and $700 the 70 and 80 cards. Then they had the fuckin audacity to call it "great value" because they began being astronomical with 2080ti prices so they honest to God in 2020 tried to advertise the $500 3070 as "fantastic value" even though not long before it would've been a $400 card, and we see now how badly made that GPU was with some of us even before release grumbling about how big an impact the VRAM was going to have. I had no earthly idea they would STILL refuse to put 16gb on their cards and keep trying to use 8gb. It's dead on arrival. 8gb is not even good enough to enable raytracing at 1080p ultra. It WILL lag, stutter, and crash at that bad VRAM, like the 3070 did on TLOU with ultra settings or Hogwarts using up all that VRAM and there isn't any real way to "optimize" for it without ruining texture quality. You can't upscale around it either, you wind up with bad looking muddy textures.
So it was already a problem before alleged 4060ti yes, and yeah pricing was already a problem since years ago. They been making consistently worse product and charging ever more prices and it's clear their whole plan all along was to slowly turn water temperature up and hope the frog doesn't hop out the pot too soon. They were going to keep doing this forever until enough gamers finally abandoned the brand entirely. Some type of people will push up on you and they literally will not stop until you throw a punch and set boudnaries. That is why we have police and military in the first place, because some guys like that get to power and the only way to deal with them is hit them in the face and tell them to stop or the beatings continue. Such case is nvidia right now. They realized they could keep increasing price and their customer would still buy it no matter what, so they wondered if they could just rename lesser cards as higher end and keep selling worse hardware for higher prices too and hope nobody noticed or complains. The also tried doing this with the alleged 4080 12gb but outcry was already so bad before launch they basically just renamed it 4070ti.
I dont think this really comes out of nowhere. The 2060 vs 1060 was already almost no progress, if you considered how the former also got a price hike, 2060s were priced like 1070 IIRC. The 3000s GPUs were clearly better, but continued the high prices and had low VRAM compared to AMD offerings. Mind AMD had 12gigs in 6700 and 16 gigs in 6800. Meanwhole 3080 was 10 gigs.
Funny thing is, Nvidia for some reason put 12 gigs in the 3060, which was actually pretty generous for that level of GPU. Tho that card still had lower performance and higher price than AMDs 6600 XT.
Now this 4060 TI is an absolute joke, almost a regression with price increase, but lets not forget this BS started to happen after the 1000 series.
As it has been for whole rtx 4000 series except for rtx 4090. Every card in this generation except that is an upsell by NVIDIA.
The naming makes so much sense. 70ti series pricing, 50 series performance, 60ti is right in the middle!

It's a 3060. Actually it's faster because of the 11gb vram and overclock headroom is around 15-20% those old gpus had alot of potential power from oc.

The bandwidth of the PCI-E 3.0 exceeds this GPUs data rate, so no loss of performance.

@@joelewing4216 There is truth to what you wrote. First, I was aware that Nvidia dropped the number of bits on the memory bus from 256 to 128, but not that they also cut the PCI-E lanes used in half. With only 8GB of VRam some games will run slower on a PCI-E 3.0 system. This has been proven by some TH-camrs who tested the card on both systems. Most games run on a PCI-E 3.0 system ran with less than a 2% FPS reduction. There were some worst cases that were down almost 10%, but would not likely affect playability as the reduction did not seem to cause any visual stuttering or excessively low frame rates. Nevertheless, shame on Nvidia for making the 4060 Ti actually be such a poor performer. When I recently decided to upgrade from my ancient (10 year old) 1GB ATI graphics card I looked at both the 3060 Ti and 4060 Ti and decided on the 3060 Ti as it was $130 less and would run anything at 1080 and 1440P without issue. Both cards will run 4K, but at reduced quality. As my core i7 4771 intel based system has PCI-E 3.0, I am glad I made that decision. FYI, I bought an Asus TUF 3060 Ti for $320, new. The TUF 4060 Ti model was running $450 at the time. I am happy with my decision. I wanted to buy a new graphics card back in 2020, but I refused to be scalped by prices over MSRP.
@@joelewing4216 Nope, this is COMPLETELY and totally incorrect. PCIe 3.0 vs 4.0 has literally NO effect on a 3090 at x16, as tested by gamers nexus and others. At x8, this gpu should be totally under the available bandwidth. Gpus dont ever saturate PCIe 3.0, at least on x16.

From the charts it doesn't seems so since the gulf between the 60ti and 70 is big enough to fit a "Super" or 2 in there, where the original 4070 was meant to be (according to Nvidia. So that means the 60ti was always meant to be *intentionally gimped* at this performance level...

I have a 2018 EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra with 8GB and play at 1440P. 5 years later, these GPU's still have 8gb??? I'm not upgrading for a while. WIll probably use my card until it dies or I rebuild the entire system but my 9900k cpu still runs just fine.
Thus the reason many gamers were slow to move off their 10-series cards. That was the last gen Nvidia offered exceptional value. AMD cards were slower and cheaper back then, yet Nvidia price and performance was undeniable. Nvidia has a lesser performance lead (in mid to low end cards) than the 10-series era yet offers very little value today even with their last gen cards.

It performs the same as the previous-gen card despite reduced memory bandwidth but adds DLSS 3 which greatly increases performance at no cost... I can't really say I fully understand the complaints. None of Steve's charts include DLSS3 for some reason. Disappointment comes from the gap between expectation and reality. Did anyone expect this card to be cheap in light of recent events? Does anyone think AMD will do better? Only Intel is playing the value game right now, and it makes sense because from very recent first-hand experience, their drivers are a pile of ass. I have a 3080 I'm not looking to replace until 5000 or 6000, but I'd LOVE this in a laptop.

The insane thing is that I have a 3060Ti that I use as a 1440p card primarily, and it does pretty well for that! The fact that in so many of their new cards they're "aiming for 1080p" blows my mind. 4k was cutting edge like 8-10 years ago, we should be at the point by now that at the VERY least 4k is common in the mid-range cards, but they're still trying to push 10 freaking 80. insanity.

And the other crazy thing is that the 3060ti can handle 1440p just fine, yet some people will look at you like you're crazy because they think it's still 2014 and a 60 series can barely run 1080p
The consoles are using less than 1080p in some games lmao. Instead of using 1440p 60fps as a new default, they are pushing more demanding games that can't even keep 1080p at 60fps.
gotta also take into account that after buying all these overpriced parts, gamers usually dont wanna spend more than like 200 bucks on a monitor which usually results in 1440p max, maybe some cheap crappy 4k monitors

I got a 3070 this past Saturday and I tried Fortnite and I noticed the fps was locked at 60 and I change the settings to try to max the fps to 300+ and only managed 120 at 1080p. I’m not very experienced with the gpu and pc technology and how to play around with settings! Pubg was dropping 260 without me touching nothing until I played with the settings dropping to 120. 😢 it even stuttered and and was kinda laggy.

Too bad the 3070 isn't included in the test. There have been price cuts which places the 3070 at 429 euro for a model with RGB, backplate and 4 fans, which are usually a bit more expensive than MSRP. This makes the 'premium' 3070 cheaper than the basic 4060 Ti.

In 1080p the 4060Ti performance on average is basically the same as 3070. In 1440p it's actually a little worse than 3070.
You could get a 6800 for similar prices in some places. Its far superior to a 3070, even twithout the memory difference.

@@justinvanhorne8859 for that price on Nvidia's side? The next available card that has more VRAM would be the 4070 for 649 which is 50% more expensive. Or you go down to a 3060 12GB. But that card is is much slower than both the 4060 Ti and the 3070. For that price (429) in this market the 3070 is an option you can at least consider. The irony is that in the past I often set texture details higher than other settings. For example you could run textures on ultra but other settings had to be 2 steps down (very high>high) in order to get decent FPS. On a 3070 that would be the other way around. So the question for that card is; are you willing to turn down texture detail settings. Which I guess comes down to personal preference.
In Honor of Nvidias new card I ran this video in 144p resolution so I could look forwards to the sort of epic visuals I can expect. Pixels have never looked so large and wow Nv have invented the GPU Tardis in 2023.
That's the type of resolution we need if we're ever going to discover aliens.

@zoran6850 Nah you cant really do that as tech review channel. LTT talked about that once. If you are just a few days late (which you will be since review samples are send out early) you loose most of your viewers and most of your revenue because people will just watch somebody elses video.
@@ec5018 It ain't that simple, the fact that the card is free tells the reviewer to give a good review "or else" on some level, even if it's never actually stated in writing.
Q is, how much money does it save N to go with 128 vs 256-bit memory bus? Probably not much so i never understood these decisions why not let the GPU breath.
I feel like these should have launched as 4050 and 4050 Ti, for $200 and $250. The 4070 should likely have been the 4060 Ti with 12GB and the 4070\4070 Ti should have had 16GB
I was thinking 4060 becomes 4050; 4060 ti 8GB becomes the 4060; and the 4060ti 16GB becomes the only 4060 ti SKU.
4060 ti is already a junk card at any price because of the memory, 4050's will only be able to run Half-life games at this rate...

Do it. Bought one for my GF and couldnt be happier with it after all the recent drivers. It's the best value out there right now when you account for RT performance, FPS, AI performance, editing performance.

Same here. Managed to pick up a 6700XT for just a hair over $300 after a discount code, so far very happy with it.

Definitely. Those mid/lower end AMD cards, especially the refreshes, are a surprisingly good deal. My friend recently got into PC gaming so I bought her a 6650 XT for about $250 and it has really impressed me.
I remember when I started gaming at 1080p. It wasn't in the 2010s,it was in the 2000s.
and back then it was considered highend(todays 4k), and still wouldnt set you back more than 399 to prob play at that res. RiP pricing 2023.
I remember pushing my CRT to >1440p resolutions...
....in 2008 and was playing at those resolutions consistently with a card not costing more than 400USD (I think at that time it was a 7800GTS 640MB)

Even aside from that, the argument is utterly insane, because it assumes that people playing at 1080p now won't want to play at a higher resolution after a hardware upgrade. As though they just prefer 1080p over 1440p rather than being limited to 1080p by hardware. Nvidia's marketing about 1080p is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it should be. What would make more sense:
1) "Only 23% of gamers are able to play above 1080p. With the balance of performance and price for our new cards, we want to see that number grow."; or
2) "77% of gamers aren't able to play above 1080p. With our new cards we plan to keep it that way."
Or because GPUs are so damn expensive people cant - or dont want to - afford 1440p to 4k GPUs for the ridiculous prices.
Especially considering even 1440p 144hz screens are so affordable, its just so stupid to sell a 1080p GPU with gigs of VRAM for 400 bucks!
Wow the 4060 TI gives 5700xt like 1440p performance at $130 more than the 5700xt and 3 years later... amazing.
No kidding, I’ve been rocking a $140 used 5700 XT for months. It may not be a beast, but it’s quite capable and will easily last me until $400 buys a truly noticeable upgrade.
I mean in fairness I have a 5700XT and no way this thing is as powerful as a 6700XT or 3060ti....but it's also not even far behind, given it is basically a 3060 at this point but with less VRAM. :shrug: plays Cyberpunk over 30fps ultra settings, close enough for me given the price and how long ago that was.

what do you think about getting the 16gig version for people looking forward to gaming AND AI stuff? AI things, such as StableLM, can be quite VRAM *amount* reliant, so the 4060ti16gb basically sounds like a 3060ti that can do more AI stuff (AMD is not really an option at all for AI for several reasons), but the question is if the reduced bus bandwidth could perhaps make the extra 8 gigs useless in the end? sure you could load a larger model, but so what if it takes absolutely ages and works slowly

The price of monitors have remained the same for years.

Monitors at my work are 1440p and I can assure you that the upgrade is noticeable.
People would upgrade in a heartbeat if it wasn't as expensive for a decade long.

Nvidia keeps showing how good of a decision I made going with a 6800. Those small memory bus were always going to be an issue.
Small memory bus + insufficient VRAM = elementary failure.
I just assembled my Computer with Radeon 6800 Non XT and Ryzen 7600X and X670 Mainboard.
I got everything for a reasonable price
The drivers tho. Also no CUDA is HUGE for non gamers.

Nvidia has basically tried to sell what is essentially a x050 tier card as a x060 tier card. Same thing they did with the 4070 and tried to do with the 4080 12gb. Pure greed. They didn't want to give up the profits they made during the mining boom and shortages, but eventually realised that gamers weren't gullible enough to continue paying those sort of prices, so they've just shuffled the sku's around.
RX6700XT 12GB is such a great value right now.
im still on my Radeon VII - that investment into 16GB HBM card seems to have payd off massively by now :)
I laugh every time I hear someone convince themselves they need Nvidia vs amd because of drivers or they use blender to make roblox dance move vids. I guess they are the reason I got 2 6700xt so cheap.. lol.

I gave up on LTT a while back when one of them said the 4080 wasn't so great so just save up for the 4090, they have lost touch with the lower level PC gamer

@Moriarty well, it's not. If you're willing to and going to drop well over $1000, it's strange to settle for the 4080 with just how much you get for upselling. Its specs and pricing look like it was designed as a high end consolation buy, expecting 4090 to be hard/impossible to find.
All these products were planned out with a sales expectation based on gpu shortages. What we're seeing with the entire 40 series is what happens when a company tries to gouge its customers right before the market bottoms out.
