MAIDEN VOYAGE (2016) is music in search of a film. At the beginning of this overture for orchestra, a murky, nocturnal soundscape is interrupted by duel music, channeling the great swashbucklers of old with frenetic intensity. While the angst and tension soon ease up, the propulsiveness continues, with the music sailing forward at full mast. Eventually we break gravity and ascend over ever warmer waters, leading us to a resplendent climax and a bold, dramatic finish.
