How to Boost Your Wi-Fi Network With an Old Router

Let say you are not getting enough signals at the other end of the building. So to extend WiFi coverage, we have couple of options here.
First, you can install a custom firmware (like DD-WRT) on your router
and increase your WiFi range to few meters.
However this is a bit more technical and if not done right
than it can even destroy your router and void your warranty.
Second best option we have is to use a power line adapter
Now, power line is a revolutionize product that uses your
home electrical wiring to carry the WiFi signal. But as of now they are quite expensive and thus not feasible for home users
Next, Popular option is to use WiFi repeater.
Simply place this WiFi repeater in the range of your existing router
and it will further boost the signal.
And last option, and also the one we are going to see in detail.
is to boost wireless network by connect two routers with an ethernet cable. Technically it’s called creating an access point.
Advantages of this setup is that it’s cheap,
works well, and since we are using ethernet cable to share WiFi,
it will work in the place where, there is no WiFi signal.
So let’s see how to make it work

+ihab s Yes you can.... You could make use of the DD-WRT firmware to configure the 2nd router as a repeater, take the signal from the 1st router and rebroadcast the signal. Check out the most recent video on my channel to get a walkthrough on how this is done.

I'm using a TP Link Dual antenna router as my primary and a Belkin as my secondary. I've done all the steps for the secondary but am lost at the Channel Type (NAT) part. I don't know where to make this last (3rd part) change over here. Would be great if you could help here Mrinal.

Hi mrinal saha. I have a question. I have changed my second router ip address and reboot the router. However, after the reboot, tried to connect to the new ip address, couldn't do so (tried with old ip address, also couldn't connect). Help me to resolve the issues. I've reset the router many times but still when through comman prompt, it stated the new ip address.

Yes, If your router has WDS function (Wireless Distribution System).
Its not Hardware implemented, you have to tick "enable WDS bridging" in wireless setting.

Thanks for sharing this useful video, have a question, whilst setting up wap, I didn't change the ssid as per primary router , just used secondary router's original ssid and password, anyway the ISSUE is that laptop n pc aren't connecting to wifi, however the rest of wireless devices including iPhone, ipad and sky q box are perfectly connected to the wap. Hey Mrinal, How about doing all this wirelessly. I mean can't both the routers be connected wirelessly instead of connecting them with the help of a LAN/Ethernet cable. I have a friend who is having WiFi signal issues and he can't hardwire two routers as they have to kept 2 floors apart.

jagadish reddy bro i just tried in tplink routers. Both are tplink's. You can find on Google how to connect through bridge mode.
Mayank Parmar searching from morning but none of them worked. I think they cant be connected because they have their default gateways different like 192.168.0.1 for dlink and 192.168.1.1 for digisol.
jagadish reddy what you need to do is. First change lan ip of your secondary router. As example if main router lan ip is 192.168.0.1 than you should have to make secondary router ip as 192.168.x.1 where you can use any number except 0. Now in secondary router you will find enable bridge option in wireless setting. Just enable it and you have to connect your main router in secondary router as like we do in our phone. Make sure that your secondary router should be in perfect place so it can get proper signal continously.

My first router's IP address is 192.168.0.1, and secondary is 192.168.1.1 . I didn't change it because they're not the same. After I done all the steps and connected my ethernet cable from my primary router to a client port on my secondary router, I couldn't connect to my second routers config page... I could only connect to my primary router's one. I was always connected by ethernet on my secondary router btw. Any help?
Sorted the issue out already, thanks. I just set the DHCP Reservation on my primary router to start from 192.168.0.3 instead of .2 at the end. This way I had 192.168.0.2 free and I set my secondary router's IP address to that and it worked (my primary router's address is 192.168.0.1).
Anyone else who had the same issue, that's how. Forgot to mention, nice video bro.
