I am so giddy to hear new music by Kamelot and Tommy Karevik, one of my favorite vocalists still making music today since I've started this journey. Tommy's runs are on a different level, and he brings so much depth, personality and character to the music he creates. Match that with Thomas Youngblood's amazing riffs and the message of this song, and you just may have one of my favorite new songs of all time!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Kamelot performing "One More Flag in the Ground" for the first time.

I’ve been stuttering my whole life and it’s funny, just listening to Elizabeth talking about certain vocal techniques and listening to her talk and how she kinda places her mouth when saying different words, and doing natural pauses when speaking here and there have actually helped me tremendously with my stuttering. So thank you for that, truly. You are wonderful ✨

This is going to be the keystone album of the Karevik era of Kamelot. I have a feeling this album is going to be a modern The Black Halo in terms of song strength and front-to-back listening. Not to mention whoever did the mix/master is a SURGEON. That low end on most albums would be muddier but it's so clean. Even the low harmony in the soprano vocal runs comes through but if you're not looking for it, it just adds to the texture without being unbalanced.
I'm so excited for this album. It sounds like everything they've done before it coming together perfectly.

I just cant with their stuff past silverthorn... I tried, Kamelot was my favorite band. The new stuff just sounds nothing like Kamelot and is overly commercial and radio formulaic. It lacks the progressive songwriting and passion of how khan orchestrated his melodies to said song writing. This just sounds like a generic template song they through together in a week or 2 and tried to put an elementary catchy chorus line into. Ill listen to the album when it comes out like i did the others to give em a fair shot, but if this is the single im just gonna have to accept that this band thats parading around in Kamelot's corpse just isnt for me. I havent seen a dramatic change this extreme since Queensryche.

Man, Tommy does such an amazing job. He had some huge shoes to fill replacing the incredible Roy Khan but boy, has he delivered. I am a huge Khan fan and it was really sad to see him retire, but Tommy took over and more than delivered. He's an incredible singer and frontman that has proved over and over again his worth.
And now we have Roy Khan back with Conception so we can enjoy both of them :)

I feel like Tommy is really coming into his own now and I love that he has been able to build on Khan's legacy and learn from and incorporate elements of Khan's singing and songwriting while bringing his own flair. As for Conception I think it would be really cool to see Elizabeth react to Silent Crying, the original and then 2.0 and compare the different takes on it. That or Waywardly Broken.

    • @kmacgregor6361
      @kmacgregor6361 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@MrGmonkeywillruleyou The two albums 'Epica' and 'The Black Halo' are a double concept album telling a story that is a take on the Damnation of Faust. Listening in order and following the story told across those two albums might help you understand and appreciate the lyrics, but if concept albums are not your thing, then try their previous album Karma (esp. songs Forever, Karma and Elizabeth - Elizabeth is reviewed on this channel) or later albums Ghost Opera and Poetry for the Poisoned (a little darker, more gothic, especially Poetry for the Poisoned).
The same singer, Roy Khan, is also in a band called Conception which is more progressive rather than power metal and the whole album 'Flow' is excellent. Their lyrics are more introspective, conceptual and abstract, less storytelling.

"I am a warrior and I'm coming home" is my favourite line from this song. So simple but so empowering. I hadn't seen or read anything about Kobra being involved with this, but if that is her singing background vocals, then that is absolutely perfect, considering what she has been through the last few years. She and Tommy are so perfect for each other. ❤️
Kamelot also just released a new lyrics video for the next single, "Opus Of The Night", which continues the story of their old song "Ghost Opera" and, according to Thomas, touches on "the healing impact that music has on the human heart and mind, no matter how broken". It's amazing.

At first, I was a little put off by the implicit war reference. However, I did my best not to pre-judge and looked up the meaning of the song. This is what it's about, and I can certainly relate, considering recent events in my life. “The main focus on this video and song was to have a metaphor for the struggles of fighting disease or illness, whether it being physical or mental. Each step of healing and recovery is another Flag in the Ground. With every little step, one more victory won…" I will remember this for my own little steps. ONE MORE FLAG!

The real meaning of the song really amazed me. I thought this is just an intermediate battle hymn with commercial lyrics, added with an overclass videoclip to promote the new album in a commercial way and to through someting on the crowd of fans of the band like me to sing along the next concert I am also eagerly awaiting for... Then when they explained the pyrics is about a step by step victory of a menthal or physical recovery, each of this steps to glory is symbolized with a flag stick into the ground... This fact really put the song into a different light with me... I am also happy to see Elisabeth's review calms me down that I am not the only crazy, freak of Kamelot...:)

@@TheCharismaticVoice I really found pleasure in Khan's lyrics in his era. Then came Tommy and everyone burried Kamelot immediatelly, a great band is dead - they said -, loosing one of the greatest male Rock singers ever. Then came the first album of the Tommy era and Kamelot released a new work which is in my opinion their greatest so far. Or I should say, the greatest one from the complete Rock/Metal history to me.... Called "Silverthorn". And an almost unkown, young Swedish fireman still at that time, shown unexpected singing potential even after Khan's unbelievable performances and great poems. And then - when everyone said - O.K., that was indeed a great last one, a shiny leftower of the Khan era, they released another one called "Haven", an album almost better than its phenomenal predecessor... Songs and singing prayers from the very depth of the Heart, introductions of Human being's most fundamental emotions and Tommy shown that he is not "just" a great substitute of Khan behind the mic, but perhaps an even better poet as well!! My personal favourite of that era is "Citizen Zero", the most powerfull lyrics of Kamelot so far, to me. Then here is the first birdie from an indeed glorious looking nest... A new breed which is just about to fly and to make people fly and dream through daytimes... Surely I just can't wait to see my favourites back after 5 years of neverending wait in my home town, the last station of the European leg of the new tour... And surely waiting for this song to be heard live, but looking forward to something else even much more from the new stuff. Just listen to this little sample of a song starts from 0:47 !!! th-cam.com/video/FQjaTy2V530/w-d-xo.html That one will be the new big bang to me, I am sure about!!

They shifted away from where I fell in love with them, I'll listen to this new release and carry an open mind into it and hopefully it hooks me, and then I can go back through the older releases of this new era with a way in. Tommy is a fantastic singer but the old man in my head wants to hear Kamelot go back towards epica with him and see what new take on that sound they can pull out, because they've all grown since then and it'd be really interesting to see what comes out of it. Still I'm glad they've continued and pushed onwards and that the Khan of Khan's is back in the musical world, He was sorely missed for those years.

The soldier reference really hit me hard, as this is something I can understand really good as it the same parallel I have created for myself to help me. I just bought the tickets too and going to see them live in april, I just can't wait. Thank you for covering this song and doing what you do :).

She has phenomenal range and they have a great traditional sound to their music. Songs like Forever One, Welcome To My Funeral, You Don’t Know, Evolution, Heaven’s Veins, Soldier and Gotham are excellent examples. Have at it!

She really should cover some PJ Harvey songs. That lady’s vocals are fantastic and she’s done some very interesting stuff with it. With all the other musical artists and bands that Liz has already covered. I’m surprised PJ Harvey hasn’t come up yet, as she’s already done Tori Amos and Kate Bush. And Polly’s (the P in PJ Harvey) of a similar (if a bit more hard edged) genre.

If you haven't yet, you should check out "The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)" by Kamelot, or more specifically the 2006 Live in Norway performance, as it's performed as a duet with Kamelot's former lead vocalist and Simone Simons. It's still one of my all time favorites, and one that I can't help but sing along to.

i love your video's, this one also doesn't disappoint. i think you would also really enjoy the artist Ren, from the UK. he's incredibly talented and dances over a huge range of genre's. his most recent single is "hi Ren" its about his own struggles with himself and life, quite a emotional song but its real and a opening into the mind of the artist. Ren himself also said that that song is his best work yet. but if you like him you should definitely check out more of him or from "the big push", which is a band of street musicians where Ren is most of the time (co)lead singer.

Great new song and video, of course. I've been a fan of Kamelot since 'Karma'. And it was your reaction to the Elizabeth trilogy that brought me to this channel in the first place.
As I said early in the chat, today also features a new single from Frozen Crown, and a new album from Beyond The Black. Frozen Crown being a power metal band from Italy, and Beyond the Black is a symphonic metal band from Germany. BtB's singer is Jennifer Haben... who did guest vocals on the last Kamelot studio album, and I doubt I'd have discovered them without that. Jennifer's voice is amazing... a little like Melissa Bonny's cleans.

I've always liked analyzing songs and listening to songs like this that make me emotional in a really good way, it takes me home in a way. I've also always loved to sing even though I don't know how to lol, and if I do it too long it starts to hurt a little with songs like bohemian rhapsody like it feels like it gets tired or something and just wants to quit, I probably damaged my something all up in there I don't know lol, but thank you for making this content, it's really enjoyable. and your singing is incredible.

Have you ever reacted to Julie Christmas' vocals? She sings for a few bands but I think you would enjoy reacting to her singing for the band Battle of Mice. The backstory to their album A Day of Nights is pretty much the post-metal version of the story behind Rumors by Fleetwood Mac. Julie and the guitar player / head of the band Josh Graham (Red Sparowes, Neurosis) were a couple, but had a violent breakup as they were writing / recording the album. It got to the point where they couldn't even be in the studio together, but the music they were making was so great that neither wanted to stop. You can absolutely tell that they are just POURING out their feelings to each other, it's Josh's most emotionally intense guitar work and the vocals / lyrics come from the very depths of Julie's broken soul.
Julie's voice, along with some of your other favorites like Maynard and Chino, is one of the only voices that consistently gives me chills when I listen to her, even here 20 years later. Check out their song "Salt Bridge." Be warned tho, it's REALLY emotionally intense.
