Your good friend Bob Bliss should convince E-MU to re-release the Proteus 2000. Even if it had only one change -- the ability play .wav files off an SD card -- it would sell like hot cakes. Heck, even if it was a carbon copy with no changes at all it would probably still sell.
@@blast_processing6577 I agree. I did try to contact Bob, but all contacts are invalid. CLEARLY he doesn't work there anymore, but I can't find him. Darned - he was (I'm sure still IS) a good guy.
+Randall Willms I'm glad you liked this demo :) Yes, the Morpheus is outstanding instrument, truly jewel of the synths! To see the full sonic spectre you can check my another demo called 'Insanity' - it shows the dark side of the Morpheus. And another part of 'Insanity' will be ready soon (I'm working on this now) so stay tuned :) Cheers
@@maxgilfordsmerling3032 The Morpheus synth is truly inspiring - I would never record these tracks on another synth. Morpheus has unique sound and features!
I got one about a month ago for about $800 with the manuals and a card, pristine condition. A ton of money. Now... the sounds is amazing and the best sound is actually the piano. The piano is very dark and very present. Is a dark stage piano, is perfect.
Yes, 800 bucks that's expensive. I got mine for 185 bucks then, nine years ago. All synths of the nineties are becoming rare, so prices are kicking up. Those who didn't like them have already sold their synths, but whoever find them good never let them go.
@@_oscillator Yes, is expensive, I was expecting to buy it for $600 tops. But yes, most of my gear I got it back in 2006 to 2012 and everything was $450 tops. I got two Roland JP-8080 for $400 each, a JD-800 for $250. I just got a D-50 in a pawnshop for $120 because it was all messed up and made no sounds, the battery ran out but of course I didn't tell them. Replaced the battery and vuala! The same thing with a D-70 "it made no sound", I got it for $90... Local off. The Morpheus has been the most expensive, every other I got for 1/3 of the price or less. The reality is that, one thing is what they ask for and another what people are willing to pay.
@@DF-eg8vl I stopped buying synths few years ago, because I already have 7 of them. The most expensive synth I bought in 2016 was the Kawai K5000R. I paid 500 bucks, now it costs 1500. I also wanted to find a Yamaha EX5R, Yamaha FS1R, Ensoniq Fizmo, Roland JD-990 and Clavia Modular G2 Engine, but now I changed my mind, coz I'm not ready to pay that high price of 1500-2000 bucks. With this money I can buy new and much more advanced synths like Waldorf M, Kyra or Iridium, Korg Wavestate, Modwave or OpSix. Not far from this price is also brand new Kurzweil K2700.
@@_oscillator The K5000R was $500 at Sam Ash back in 1997-98. I got the keyboard which was good regarding sound but a pain to program. I got rid of it within a year. I would have the JD-990 if I had the JD-800 that works as a real time controller for it. I have the 800 but the 990 is too expensive. Again, one thing is the price they ask for them and another is the real price, there is always someone selling for less or willing to negotiate.
+Karl Weaver Probably yes, although Ultra Proteus has the same synth engine as Morpheus. And even more Z-filters and waveforms! The best part of Z-plane is ability to morph into any type of sounds, for example you can hear how different it can be in my latest tracks called "Insanity" - you will never know it's the same synth as in this demo :) Regards!
Thanks again! Morpheus synth is great tool not only for lush pads, but also for some bizarre stuff. You can hear the dark side of this synth in 3 parts of "Insanity" soundtrack on my channel. Morpheus is really chamelleon at this point. Cheers
I just inherited a rack of amazing gear and the Morpheus was part of it. I have become giddy with excitement after watching this video. I am quite sure your programming skills are a main driving force but I hope to learn as I watch more videos from you! What a find!
The Morpheus is great for pads, but the best part starts for the ambient stuff and sound effects. I have 3 parts of "Insanity" soundtrack on my channel, I used only a single Morpheus synth to record all of this. I was really impressed with Morpheus capabilities to create so many nice ambient sounds :)
@@maxgilfordsmerling3032 I started to make the patchbank for Morpheus long time ago, but it's still not ready. But in fact my demo video and also the "Insanity" was created as real-time improvisation of parameters. I did not even save the results as patches, because there are too much combinations of those parameters and patches, respectivelly. Changing the parameters from the synth screen and front buttons is not handy, so I used the MorphEdit software - it's freeware and runs on every Windows 32 or 64 bit.
Morphedit! I think I found that on github. Thanks man! Keep up the great work and let me know if you do ever want to dump some sysex for me. I'll pay. Cheers!
Great demo of a great synth. I had a Morpheus about ten years ago, sold it and bought another one recently. The SysEx files for the four ROM cards can still be found online. No point in posting a link because sites come and go but, ''google'' ''Synth Gear Docs: An Archive'' and you will find them.
Isolde Isobelle You right, these Sysex backups are still there, only problem they contains only Presets, no Hyperpresets or Midimaps. But anyway, they are not the best patches at all because they don't show the real power of Z-plane, but just shows the ordinary rompler stuff. The best patches are made by yourself coz only you know exactly what you want to hear :) Regards and I wish you lot of happy moments with your Morpheus!
oscillator Thank you. Yes, the presets are rather bland but, they are a good leaping point in to the unknown that awaits. The Z-Plane filters were never better implemented than they was here on the Morpheus and Ultra Proteus... even the flagship EIV Ultra samplers never had this much control over their Z filters. I think that your video here, will inspire many people to delve further.
Isolde Isobelle I'm happy you liked this demo, thanks, but there are mostly pads and some melodic stuff in this video. If you wanna to see the'Dark Side' of the Morpheus synth, please check the "Insanity" track there on my channel. Cheers!
Thanks, this demo is more about normal sounds, but I guess that Morpheus is the best synth for ambient and experimental stuff - you can check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel. Cheers!
Yes, I still have my Morpheus, even more - I got also the UltraProteus, which is a big brother of Morpheus. I would like to make some demo about UP synth also, they both has same synth engine.
Does the Morpheus have wave shape shifting as you find here: th-cam.com/video/hJgT0KpfdWc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Propellerhead I been looking at the Korg Prologue as a candidate synth - just to give you the caliber of quality I adore. This is all to say the Morpheus is the bomb. I will look and hear the UltraProteus in action. Thank you for your response. I would like to compliment you on the presentation and the stellar condition of your Morpheus. I like mint condition gear. Prior to purchasing I always ask, what is the cosmetic condition of the unit. Here is yet another synth I am liking: echnics SX WSA 1R: th-cam.com/video/Kqbj_WKGqvg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AlexanderBobrov
Morpheus doesn't have shape shifting, but it has Z-Plane filters. That means 3-dimensional 14-pole filter system and 3 control axis: X, Y, Z, which gives the ability to morph the sound parameters in radical way. You can hear this in my tracks called ''Insanity'' - there are 3 parts of this work on my channel. Morpheus model is better for ambient sounds, while the UltraProteus is more oriented for acoustic instruments due the different set of ROM waveforms. Technics WSA1 is also great synth, as far I know. Unfortunately I never had a chance to try or have one, but it's definitely very interesting analog modelling synth. I can suggest you to take a look also on another synth, Kawai K5000. Actually my TOP3 of extraordinary synths are E-MU Morpheus, Kawai K5000 and Kurzweil K2000, K2500 or K2600 (I have a demo of K2000 model on my channel). Those synths are just amazing! Cheers.
A great performance on one of the greatest Synthesizer Modules from E-mu. Once in the past I was desperately looking for an used Morpheus to purchase but I wasn't lucky. Happy playing, Telmo.
Telmo Gama Thanks Telmo, Morpheus really is an amazing machine. I wanted it long time and finally I got this last year on Ebay, just check there and time after time someone let it for sell. Well, I wish you lot of inspiration for future works! Cheers
This is one really interesting video that shows the musical side of programming the Zplane Morpheus. Examine, if you will the rich ambiance and smoothness of the vibes, hear the strum of the fingers across the fretboard of the analog synth...what? Hmm Zplane means imagination at will. yes, I was happy to get one like new nearly 20 years after manufacture. This demo should push me to try harder to find the feel in my own patches! Hmmm I suspect this entire video is listenable too. Now i want the CD.
Thanks for posting the demo. I actually have one of these in my synth rack. It is nice to hear the possibilities. I got into MIDI/electronic music back in the day (mid 1980's) when hardware was the only option. Over the years I expanded my equipment collection. At one point I had both a Roland XV-5080 and a Korg Triton-Rack, which were massively multi-timbral synths/FX. After replacing an older Alesis QS8 with a Korg Kronos X 88-key workstation I realized the XV-5080 and the Triton-Rack were somewhat redundant and not particularly special. I pared the hardware synths down to to those that are unique and unusual, like the Morpheus, or Yamaha VL1-m V2 (which is the only synth in my collection with a BC (Breath Controller) input. In the same vein I have retained my Casio CZ-101 (purchased new in 1987), Casio VZ-10M, Technics WSA1R (another physical modeling synth like the VL1), Roland D-550 and Oberheim Matrix 1000. Finally, after having five different hardware FX units at one point, I have only retained a Lexicon Vortex.
Hi mate, I'm also into hardware stuff - have the Kurzweil K2000, Morpheus and UltraProteus, Korg Wavestation SR, Blofeld and Kawai K5000 synths. My only external FX is BBE 382i, it's simple but great sonic maximizer. I would like to have also the Fizmo and FS1R synths, but they're quite expensive. Yes, the Morpheus is one of the best for sound design - you can check the 'Insanity' tracks on my channel, I recorded them using a single Morpheus unit. I never though that this synth can do so dark soundscapes :) UltraProtues has the same engine, just little different ROM waves, it's better for acoustic emulations. Well, thanks for visiting and I wish you lot of fun with your synths! Cheers.
@@_oscillator I have had hardware BBE Sonic Maximizer FX units in the past but switched to the software version, which includes a VST plugin, quite some time ago. That allows the processing to remain in the digital domain (using Sound Forge). I use that effect a great deal when restoring old 78's and earlier LP's. The weird thing about the BBE FX is that the company's explanation of just exactly what it is doing has changed over the years. My understanding is that it compensates for the slight time phase shift between different frequencies that occurs when an analog signal is sent through electronics and speaker wiring, i.e., it creates a more "live" sound. I do also use the bass boost control, since neither 78's or LP's particularly excel at reproducing low frequencies, even with equalization, e.g., RIAA. Of course, most 78's used equalization, but it varied from manufacturer to manufacturer. P.S. In my original comment I forgot to mention one other legacy hardware synth in my studio, a Waldorf MicroWave XT, a knob tweakers dream!
+eric andre Je l'ai enregistré cette démo directement à l'ordinateur portable avec pas cher chinoise carte audio externe. Cette carte est très bruyant et parfois brouiller le son.
@kickdje The sound of Morpheus is not super clean, due to specific and comnplex filters - they can unexpectedly produce some distortion . But I like this synth because it sounds warm and lively, even if it's digital.
Man, you've pulled some great sounds out of this beast. You're right that the built-in presets don't do it justice. I really need to give my old Morpheus another chance, and push it beyond the ROM presets.
The most interesting sounds I got from Morpheus when I recorded the "Insanity" tracks - they both are on my channel. Very soon I will finish also the third and final part of this trilogy so stay tuned :) Morpheus is amazing synth, Regards mate!
The audio sounds a little "muddy". I've not listened to the Morpheus before, but it sounds like a lot of top end has been cut - it just doesn't sound "bright"... EDIT: At about 10:00 the noise floor jumps up & you begin to hear more higher frequencies... I'm guessing the Morpheus is a noisy beast?
The dull sound problem was a cheap chinese external USB audio card (my laptop has no line-in jack). Now I am using the Lexicon Aplha card, which is much better. You can hear the full frequency range of the Morpheus synth if you check "Insanity" tracks on my channel - they were recorded with new audio card and you can hear the real sound of this synth. Cheers
Yes, it is amazing synth and it can be very different - if you check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel and you could not believe it's the same synth :) Thanks for visiting, Best Regards mate !
Ares Kalogeropoulos Yes, I'm using MorphEdit software. Also MidiQuest and SoundDiver isn't bad, but MorphEdit is much more handy and stabile. Internal presets mostly are scrap, only few of them are good start point for further developing. But the most interesting result is to modulate the Morpheus in real-time, that's the way I recorded *Insanity* tracks - using Modulation Matrix, Function Generator and Free-Run Generator in the fly. Morpheus has 4 modulation channels and about 200 parameters per patch, so... endless combinations :)
I am really impressed. 1. Are these parameters sending CC΄s in order to modulate / tweak them from an external midi device ? 2. In some patches I am hearing too much noise. In some others not. It's the output of the module noisy or are the samples so ?
Ares Kalogeropoulos 1. Yes, there are sended different MIDI commands from sequencer (Kurzweil K2000), PC (MorphEdit software), also Korg Taktile keyboard used (it has programmable sliders, pots and XY touchpad). All devices are merged by my custom-made MIDI merger. 2. About noise - all audio clips were recorded using external USB audio card, because my PC doesn't have line-in input. This audio card is cheap chinese (cost about 10 bucks) and it's quite noisy. Some patches were recorded to quite and after normalizing the background noise was also amplified. The Morpheus itself has good noise parameters (Max. Signal to Quiescent Noise: >90 dB. Total harmonic distortion plus noise
When I first heard about the Morpheus I assumed E-mu had incorporated the morphing technology that was popular at the time into sampling. So you could start with a piano sample and morph into a string sample using an envelope or velocity. Also allowing a much smaller number of multisamples across a keyboard without the sped up squeak that was common then. As each key would represent a morph between the lower sample and a mid key sample. Unfortunately this technique never materialised as the creative possibilities were enormous. Alien languages just a morph away from a dog barking and a dictator ranting backwards in a foreign language. What we got was actually a very musical and innovative synth module that, had it been brought out on a keyboard by Yamaha or Roland would have been the next big thing after FM and S+S.
Morpheus has great features such as waveform start point, playback direction, Z-plane filters, function generator and modulation matrix. This is definitely not an ordinary rompler. I recorded all three parts of the "Insanity" track using only a single Morpheus synth. You can find this track on my channel. Cheers
I bought an Xtreme Lead-1 and i think i will also try to find a E-MU MORPHEUS Z-Plane :-) Very good demo. Good E-MU demos are rare on YT! This one is super!
Yes, the Morpheus can do even more - you can hear this if you check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel. Everything was recorded using only Morpheus synth, nothing else. Cheers!
@@aristotlekumpis7095 Take it for sure! I have also the UltraProteus - it has the same engine as Morpheus, but they have different set of ROM waves. They both are great, you will be not dissapointed.
+artenuovoglobal Thank you very much :) Yes, Morpheus is amazing synth coz it can be warm and melodic, but it also can be dark & demonic... You can hear this in my latest track called "Insanity" which is recorded entirely on Morpheus. This will be something completely different :)
+Super Fata You right, the Morpheus has very complex filter system, also advanced modulation matrix and 'Function generators' which all together makes Z-plane to sound very wide and different. I'm more than happy with this synth :)
+Super Fata Programming is similar to any 'rompler' synth. Only difference is that all parameters of other synths are more exact - by this I mean any parameter defines some separate value such as LFO rate, filter cutoff, pitch and so on, while each parameter of the Morpheus is working in close context with other parameters (Modulation Matrix, Function Generator, Free Run Generator etc). Editing mode have many pages but due to small screen it's little difficult to navigate between them, therefore I'm using editing software called MorphEdit. This is native editor for Morpheus synth and it lets you to work with all parameters simultaneously on the PC screen, great stuff!
Super Fata Yup, this synth is unique, a dream for every sound designer :) It sounds nothing special by default, factory presets are very average and don't show the real power of Z-planes at all, but if you dig deeper, it's a real treasure chest :) It needs a bit of patience to understand how it works, also some tricks to work with SysEx files to save and load the presets between synth and PC, also edit them as hexadecimal codes to modify the parameters without the synth (such as preset number, controllers etc), but this game is worth the candle :)
good evening my friend,,,,,,....Listening your sound................................................more then one hour ...no problem....I have time....OK ...no writing anymore...just gonna listen............... Thanks for sharing....Gonna listen more......This machine is marvelous.
***** Hi Atti! Yes, it's long because there are so many presets on Morpheus. I show just a part from them, those who shows Z-Plane filters in action the most. Actually the possibilities of this synth are even more - Forget endless possibilities; lots of synthesizers have “endless possibilities”. The Morpheus has FRIGHTENING possibilities. See this review: brunorc.wordpress.com/2011/03/
Thanks mate. I used this synth to record all 3 parts of "Insanity" track and I guess that was the limit point of Morpheus. I also have plans to create some more stuff on this synth. Cheers
WOW!!!! some sounds are spectacular…. I was about to sell some of synths…Morpheus was one of them…but after listening to this. I am going to keep it and work hard to make is sounds lake that…thanks!!
Thanks for nice comment :) The Morpheus can be very different - everything depends from programming. There are three part of "Insanity" on my channel if you want to see the dark side of this amazing synth. Regards!
Hadron Orchestra Hello mate! If you're interested to hear psymbient sounds of this synth, please check my latest video called "Insanity". This track is made entirely on Morpheus - it will give you full spectre of this type of sounds! Greetings
Askprojekt Morpheus was launched at 1993, but it is still possible to find some over the net so grab one while you can. You will not regret having this!
I was thinking of purchasing the E-MU Morpheus, but I kept telling myself, stay focused on the Radias, as I already had just acquired the Korg M3. Your video on the Morpheus is highly persuasive.
Morpheus is worth every penny, really. An alternative synth is UltraProteus from E-MU, it has the same engine as Morpheus, just a different set of ROM waves and more Z-filters. I own also this model and maybe someday I will make a demo video also about UlytrProteus synth.
Thanks man, actually this synth can sound very different. In this demo you can hear mostly pad sounds, but Morpheus is great also for ambient and sound FX - if you check the "Insanity" tracks. In this role Morpheus is unique. Cheers
Hi, Morpheus is really amazing synth with unique features like Function Generators, Free Run Generators, Z-plane Filters and extremely complex Modulation Matrix. This synth is great for pads and ambient sounds - I recorded "Insanity Trilogy" using entirely a single Morpheus synth, nothing else. Thanks for visiting, Regards!
Gerry No That's true - Mo'Phatt is aimed for hip-hop, R'n'B, dance and stuff like that, while Morpheus is field for truly electronic sounds and sonic experiments. They are very different synths.
oscillator I want this synth so badly. I keep checking eBay, (like 3-4 times per week) but no Morpheus ever comes up for auction. }:o{ I guess I can kind of see why. It doesn't seem like the kind of synth that owners would willingly want to part with. Oh well. When I finally do get one, (and I WILL get one!) the waiting & anticipation will make owning & using it that much sweeter. :-)
Gerry No Actually it's not so bad - I've checked eBay and there is one Morpheus auction in UK. Before most of them I saw in US site, sometimes in Germany. Some time ago there was 4 synths on sale at same time, keep watching and you will get one, surely. Morpheus is the synth which if you like it, you will never let him go, but probably you will be happy to sell it if you don't get into it and don't understand how it works. Like I told before - it's not from the easy-ones, it needs some time and patience to go through the manuals, connect to the PC (highly recommended, but not neccesary) and set-up everything to make it sounds nice. Default synth makes just impression of average vintage module, nothing special. When you will get one, I promise to give you all the software I have (Windows based MorpEdit, SoundDiver, Kai'ckul and MIDI-OX), User Manual, set-up routings and some more tips to start of use the Morpheus un full power. Will be ok :)
oscillator Thanks. I already saw the one in the UK, but the seller doesn't ship to America. I've also been looking for Ultra Proteus, but can't find those either. I do see a lot of Proteus 2000, & 2500. What do you know about the 2500? Is it better than the 2000. I see this information on vintagesynth.com, but I don't really know what it means. (or which has better filters) 2000 - Filter - 128 (multiple types with resonance, including Z-Plane filters) 2500 - Filter - 50 types of 6th- and 12th-order Z-plane filters Both appear to have "Z-Plane". The 2000 has more filters, (2.5X) but I have no idea what "6th & 12th order" means, or what "order" the 2000 has. Morpheus - Filter - 32 14-Pole Interpolating Digital Filters employing 32-bit internal arithmetic; 198 programmed filter types) Morpheus seems to have to most filters. (& I've heard what it can do!) I think I'll wait for the Morpheus. I appreciated your offer of software, & when the time comes, I will definitely take you up on that offer. ;-)
Gerry No So there is what I found over the i-net: The P2500 is 4 rack spaces. The sound ROMS of both are the same - same sounds and presets. The P2500 does have control over parameters that the P2000 doesn't have - may be worth the extra $100. Both have 3 extra ROM slots for expansion. The P2000 has only 4 knobs to control the 16 paramters, the P2500 has 16 knobs - more control in the P2500. I'm not sure about the filters, but definitely Morpheus and Ultra Proteus have more advanced filters than P2000 and P2500. Actually Morpheus and Ultra Proteus are everything the same except sound ROM - UltraP have much more waveforms, but it lacks some of Morpheus waves, UltraP is better for acoustic emulations while Morpheus is better for electronic type sounds. So decision is yours. The best could be to have both Morpheus and UltraP of course, but if I need to choose just one, I choose the Morpheus. If you're in US, than it will be more easy to get some for sure, coz there are much more E-mu units than everywhere else! Cheers
Hi oscillator love the sound of this thing, would be great for ambient. Can i ask how many of these sounds are presets and how many (if) you made from scratch yourself? thanks so much!
Hi! All soundclips in this demo are recorded in 'Preset' mode, some clips were recorded in 'MidiMap' mode using the external sequencer. Some sounds are ROM presets or modyfied ROM presets, but mostly I programmed my own patches. Yes, the Morpheus is great for ambient - you can check 3 parts of "Insanity" track on my channel. The only synth to record all these soundscapes was Morpheus, nothing else was used. Cheers
I started to fill the bank with custom patches long time ago, but it's still not full and ready-to-use. The idea was to create one full bank with 128 presets as commercial product, but it's not ready yet, unfortunately. My job is not connected to the music in any way - it's just a hobby, sometimes and time after time. I wish to complete the bank, but I really don't know yet when it will be ready.
@@larsuk9578 There is much better software for editing Morpheus - this software is called MorphEdit. It's freeware and works perfectly. I tried also Edisyn, but I didn't like it somehow. Morphedit is much better, imho. Another nice software is Kai'ckul, which is nice and simple librarian. I could send you a copy of these programs, if you can't find them over the internet. Cheers!
@@_oscillator thanks! Morphedit only works on Windows I believe and I am on Mac... Edisyn works fine, I just need to better understand the various parameters (for instance, modulating FreqTracking or Transform doesn’t seem to do much. Morph works fine...)
One thing I wonder is how the Morpheus (or Ultra Proteus) compares to my Proteus 2000s) I have two). From what I understand, the Morpheus has more filter types, but I find it difficult to mentally translate this to "would it be worth it?" It sounds nice enough, but I already have such a ridiculous amount of sonic potential at my fingertips, that the question begs whether I should perhaps focus on what I already have. Not to mention, P2000 are dirt cheap these days, but the Morpheus isn't. Thanks for the video; the Morpheus sounds ethereal. And that's a good thing.
I never had the Proteus 2000, that's why is difficult to compare it with Morpheus or Ultraproteus. I believe that every synth can sound great. Many years ago I had the Yamaha DX21, my first synth. Simple 4 Op FM machine, very basic, without FX processor and sequencer. I spent many nights to sit and program this keyboard, just to get out some interesting sounds from it. And even now, after many years and playing many top-range synths, I still wonder how this simple FM synth sounded so good. The answer is - because I made the sounds I wanted to hear. This is the secret of every synth. If I should play the factory presets of DX21, I will never touch this synth again.
@@_oscillator Well, I just love the sounds of the Morpheus. I do think that it's quite different from anything else I have (EX5, AN1x, EMX-1, Wavestation SR, AIRBase99, Micro Q, and 2x Proteus 2000). There is more programmability to explore in those than I have years left in my life.
@@SeverityOne Great choice - EX5 and AN1X definitely are on my wishlist too, same as FS1R. Yes, the Morpheus is very smooth synth, but the only thing it differs from other romplers is very special Z-plane filter. This filter system makes the sound more alive due the real-time changes of frequency, resonance and amplitude. Same filter system you can find in Ultra Proteus model, which has exactly the same synth engine - only difference is different set of ROM waves. But again - the factory presets of Morpheus or Ultra Proteus doesn't show even a part from all capabilities. You can check all three parts of "Insanity" track on my channel, only the Morpheus synth was used to record all sounds there. Factory patches were not used at all.
@@SeverityOne I just tried to discover the dark side oif this synth. Actually the Insanity Trilogy was not a demo, it is more like an experimental work with random elements of Z-plane engine. Musicians knows the Morpheus for sweet pads, but it is perfect tool for ambient stuff too.
+Pure Ambient Drone It's recorded directly from the audio outs of Morpheus to the line-in of cheap chinese external USB soundcard - I got it for 10 bucks on eBay, because my laptop doesn't have audio input. After I mixed all recorded audio clips in chain with Adobe Audition and added a little bit of EQ for highs and lows, but not much.I have better quality recordings of Morpheus in my latest works called "Insanity" and "Insanity 2", check my channel, they also are completely different - dark and ambient.
Nice, I'm surprised I haven't gone through the Presets yet of this machine with a video. There are some definite cool filters going on with this machine, as well as other combos to manipulations; typical synth stuff. Well done! I'm hoping to create some sounds with this beast eventually, I only created one thus far, but need to work on it more. I've been lazy.
ish233 It's good idea to use the MorphEdit software to program a Morpheus - that makes it much, much more easy to change the parameter values because you can see and change all these parameters on PC screen and no need scrolling thru the pages with encoder wheel from Morpheus' front panel. And what's more - there is only single presets in this demo video. Morpheus has also Hyperpreset mode to stack up to 16 Presets together, it means the Sound will be very FAT !!!
oscillator yeah, I usually use the on board screen to make sounds, I've gotten used to it from other synthesizers I use. Although someone convinced me to try another software program for some FM synthesis, so I work with that a bit as one of the only software I used with changing parameters outside of the on board screen. I don't mind it as much. I know about the hyper presets, it's that function generator and utilizing the filters to compliment a sound like a fine wine to a dish, that complicates my mind a bit. The Morpheus is definitely in depth and I've read the manual a few and still working with it. I'm curious to try the Sub outputs next with the mixer I have. All in all, a grand synthesizer.
+Rick Clausen Music Yes, the Morpheus is perfect for pads, sound FX and also some weird stuff too :) If you're interested, please check my latest works called "Insanity" - I showed there the dark side of the Morpheus :) Regards!
This demo shows the musical side of Morpheus, especially pad sounds. "Insanity" tracks are completely different, coz there are only sound effects and ambient noises. Morpheus synth is extremely flexible for any genre of music!
***** Thank you :) I wanted the Morpheus long time ago, since it was launched and now it surpasses all my expectations. The Dream Machine for any sound designer, programmer and musician... Greetings!
This is freaking awesome, is this what DepecheMode used on the Ultra album? God damnit I want this synth, so hard. I must have it! Did you program all of these sounds or are they from a specific soundbank? That sound at 28:08 is one of the most awesome sounds Ive ever heard come out of a synth. A truly epic demo, this is how a synth should sound like, impressive work!
Not sure about Ultra, but Depeche Mode used Morpheus in their songs, that's a fact. About presets there - mainly they are custom made or modified ROM patches. No Hyperpresets used.
oscillator Fantastic demo and sounds... I might be getting a Morpheus... do you offer your custom presets? what editor did you use to program the synth? Thanks and best wishes.
Wolfgang Gaube I'm glad you liked the demo, thanks. I could you suggest to get a Morpheus or UltraProteus - they are similar models, UltraProteus have much more ROM waveforms and filters, but unfortunately lacks some great stuff that Morpheus have. So it is difficult to say which is better, actually they both are great! About presets - I'm still working on Morpheus library bank and it's not ready yet. I spent much more time on Kurzweil K2000 before, so it is only beginning on Morpheus for me. About editor - mostly I use MorphEdit software, SoundDiver is also good and sometimes I use Midi Quest as well.
TheSynthZone Yes, it works on Win7 also. MorphEdit v0.912 can run on XP, Vista and both 32-bit and 64-bit Win7. The last version MorphEdit v1.000 works on XP, Vista and 32-bit Win7 only.
+Len “len303” kps Thanks mate :) Your acidtones discovered the power of Z-planes to me, wonderful collection, really! In this demo are most of melodic patches, I also have some dark Sci-Fi stuff on my latest two tracks called "Insanity". Best Regards!!!
Hi, unfortunately those patches are not ready for sale yet, because the patch bank (128 sounds) is not completed. Sorry, I have completed only about 80 sounds or so. My job is not connected to the music in any way, its just a hobby and I'm always busy, but I hope to fill the bank sometimes. Cheers
@@_oscillator Glad you are still working on this stuff Osc 😎👍 Got the Morpheus and the U/P too 😁 with both of them the 'extended' PCMCIA cards with extra Hyper's - would REALLY love you full 128 patch bank; are you due to finish this before Xmas? Cheers! 🍻
@@theaudioeng Hi, I was a bit away from my synths, for few years, but now I'm back and have some ideas :) My little MIDI studio is finally built, so I will try to make some new stuff!
@@_oscillator Hi, 4 years ago these superb sounds were not ready for sale yet. And now ???? 🙂 I would be happy with already 80 sounds of this quality....
@@tadream16w Unfortunately, I haven't touched my Morpheus since, to be honest. Love this synth and wish to make some sounds, but I probably have too many toys now. Currently I'm working on new soundbank called K-PLANET for Kurzweil K-series. This is the sequel of K-POWER patch collection. I have a few more synths waiting for me, such as Blofeld, Wavestation, MR Rack and Kawai K5000... there is never enough time for all this.
This synth is capable for even more - I've recorded all 3 parts of "Insanity" track, using only a single Morpheus synth. You can find them on my channel. Cheers
+Rafal Rudawski Actually Morpheus is pure digital rompler-synth, based on 16-bit samples. But it can sound as analog, of course, everything depends from programming. I believe that every synth can sound very different - as modular, analog, FM, granular etc. You can find Morpheus on eBay sometimes, check out!
***** You're right - the sound of Morpheus is very warm and soft, if you compare to other synths. That's because ROM samples of this synth are smooth and Z-Plane filters has very analog-type curves. Amazing and unique synth :)
***** I definitely will check your website :) I'm always interested to hear somthing new! Another thing I can show you is my latest video there on my channel - it's called "Insanity" and it's recorded entirely on Morpheus synth. But it is something completely different, some sci-fi horror stuff :)
Yes, it is. IMO it is by far, the greatest Morpheus demo ever made. It's more than a "demo" really. It's a vast collection of beautiful little musical arrangements & compositions + a showcase of incredible sound design & editing.🎵🎶 It's nothing short of remarkable. I never get tired of listening to it. 😍 This demo is actually the main reason I ended up buying a Morpheus. (though I can't do even .01% of what oscillator does with his Morpheus, 😖 hehehe)
+andy carter Yes. the Morpheus is great for pads and ambient stuff :) This demo is more for pads, I also have two tracks called 'Insanity' which shows the dark side of this synth. Cheers mate!
Yes, I would like to make some tutorials, but unfortunately I'm far away from my home now - woking abroad for life. You can check the video on TH-cam, called ''E-MU morpheus synthesizer guide tour (VHS RIP)'', which is an original videotape about this synth. That could be helpful I guess and also check some tracks called ''Insanity'' on my channel, if you want to hear the dark side of the Morpheus synth. Cheers!
yeah I've seen that. it's been on youtube for awhile but it was split up in parts. the video has some good info but it's pretty basic. It would just be cool to see your process. I'm so glad I a morpheus, I got it on ebay for like 150 a few years back and they've gone up quite a bit since then. Such an awesome synth =)
I got my Morpheus for 180 euro in year 2014, now the price is at least doubled. Basically this synth is ordinary rompler, but the best part are Z-filters, modulation matrix and Function generator, they makes it very special. One more useful tip - the best way to program patches is from Computer, using software called Morphedit, that is much more easy and fast way to get nice sounds :)
Yes, you can get the Owner's Manual there: www.synthmanuals.com/manuals/emu/morpheus/owners_manual/ Basically all functions of Morpheus are described in this manual, but this synth have one more option which is not writen there - the Lucky Accident.. Morpheus is full with surprises, I showed some of them on my "Insanity" tracks :)
If what I have been reading is correct, the downside on the Eurorack Morpheus Z-Plane Filter is it's only monophonic. These filters really shine in polyphonic synthesis, like harmonies and chords.
Morpheus vs. UltraProteus? I know that the ultra has got more filter cubes and a different sample set, but do these differences make it actually better? Which one got the better sample set?
Both are good (I have them both). People say that Morpheus is more synth-sound oriented, while UltraProteus is better for acoustic emulations. I would like to say that UltraProteus have same good synth waveforms. I could not see big difference between them, honestly.
@@thedoublek4816 The sound engine and all programming parameters of presets, hyperpresets, midimaps and FX processor are exactly the same for Morpheus and UltraProteus. So in that point is no difference at all. UltraProteus has more Z-filters (288 filters) - it contains all filters from Morpheus (197 filters) and also added vari-pole filters, parametric tracking filters, harmonic shifters, vocal formants and instrument formant filters. That definitely makes UltraProteus much better than Morpheus. About ROM waveforms - UltraProteus is based on Proteus 1 Pop-Rock, Proteus 2 Orchestral and Proteus 3 World synths, that means it has many orchestral, piano , woodwind, percussion, bass, organ and classic synth waves (470 waves together). That makes UltraProteus great for contemporary stage musicians, who likes to play in band. Morpheus has less ROM waveforms (242 waves), but they are not based on previous Proteus models. They are made specially for Morpheus and contains not just an ordinary orchestral, bass, percussion waves, but also some very special synth waves, that makes it better for pads and ambient stuff. So personally for me Morpheus is a winner in that point. I can rate Morpheus and UltraProteus as 50/50. Morpheus have more interesting waveforms, while UltraProteus has more Z-filters. If you like to create experimental and ambient style, than choose Morpheus. If you like to play in band and prefer standard sounds - choose UltraProteus. But as I said before - the difference between Morpheus and UltraProteus is not big, even if the number of filters and waveforms are different. They both have same synth-engine and sounds very similar. If you create a patch with same program parameters, same FX settings and using similar waveforms (like square or saw, choir or strings), you won't hear any difference.
***** Yes, this synth is great. Actually I spent many years before with Kurzweil and I got Morpheus just recently, so it's only beginning for me. I made some patches but the full preset bank is not ready yet. In this video I also used sounds from ROM and Morpheus Card Collection. If you are interested, I could share these Card sounds with you as Sysex files and you can load them into Morpheus from PC. Then you can use MorphEdit software to modify all these sounds - it is much more easy way to program because programming from the Morpheus' front panel is not handy. Just give me your e-mail and I will send Sysex files to you.
Wow 16:40 is a awesome Sound...where did you get this Synth Module...It's absolutely amazing sound....Nice Video...i'm scanning thru bit's and pieces....i like what i hear so far...
Hi, I got this synth from Germany, won the bidding at ebay last year in June, for 185Euro. I knew about Morpheus long time ago, how great it is with these Z-plane filters, and finally I had a chance to get this one :) Great synth, no doubts, just it isn't from the easy ones - I spend long time to connect it to PC and to make it sound how I wanted. So it's just begining!
So where is the noise coming from in the recordings? I like it and I'm happy with my AX73 and CZ-1 impart a little noise into the signal path alongside their synth sounds.
DivKidMusic My PC don't have a line-in so I used a cheap external USB-audio card (chinese one for 10 bucks on ebay). After normalizing the recorded sounds some noise appears, unfortunately. The synth itself has good output (Max. Signal to Quiescent Noise and Dynamic Range >90 dB, Frequency Response 20Hz-15kHz, Sample Playback Rate 39kHz, THD +N and IMD
These are absolutely beautiful, my exact taste when it comes to patches - love huge pads and textures! Seriously incredible work. I was wondering when you would be finished making your soundbank for the Morpheus? I’d happily pay money for an incomplete/WIP version, I don’t actually have a Morpheus but instead I’ve got an Ultraproteus - the patches would work right?
Morpheus synth is great not only for pads - the best part of this synth is ambient stuff, imho. You can check 3 parts of "Insanity" track on my channel, they were recorded using a single Morpheus synth. This track shows the real power of Morpheus. About UltraProteus - yes, it uses the same sound engine as Morpheus, but ROM waves are not compatible directly, so these patches do not work without altering of wave numbers. In other words, it is not possible to play Morpheus sounds on UltraProteus without changing the waves. The only way is to change these waves manually to something close to original Morpheus waves, but there will be some differences in sound anyway.
@@_oscillator Interesting, thanks for your reply! I checked out all your stuff and it's all really awesome. I seriously respect your ability and patience with these older ROMplers, they're my favourite synths but boy are they hard to program - I've been wanting a Morpheus for a long time now but only managed to pick up an Ultra Proteus from South Korea. It's very hard to find a Morpheus in the UK. The Ultra Proteus really seems to focus on replication of traditional instrument sounds (for the presets anyhow) but it is indeed more powerful with double the waveform size. I prefer to work off of presets as a base for programming new sounds but the Ultra Proteus definitely doesn't tailor its self towards 'electronic' or 'ambient' etc. Programming these soundbanks must be hard and labourous work so I completely understand!
@@connor1uk ROM waves of UltraProteus are based on Proteus 1 Pop-Rock, Proteus 2 Orchestral and Proteus 3 World synths (470 waves together). Morpheus has less ROM waveforms (242 waves), and they are not based on previous Proteus models, but were made specially for Morpheus and contains some special synth waves. UltraProteus has more Z-Plane filters too. Otherwise they are identical and same good. The best and easiest way to program those synths is from the software called MorphEdit - it is freeware (no need any registration), portable (no need to install), works on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. Great software, works like a charm on big screen of computer, instead of programming from 2-line tiny display and endless scrolling between the pages.
Not really. I have also the Wavestation SR synth, so I can compare it to the Morpheus. They both do different things. In musical context you can find some similarities between wavesequencing and morphing of filters, but only sometimes and there is a huge difference anyway. I have 3 parts of "Insanity" track on my channel and I'm sure you will never get these sounds out from Wavestation or Wavestate, unfortunately.
@@_oscillator The Wavestation architect is completely different from the Wavestate. The answer I would like is from someone who has both instruments. Thank you for your response.
@@bobcatt2294 I have a Wavestation SR model. Unfortunately I never had a chance to try the new Wavestate. I think they should be mostly similar, but maybe I'm wrong. In any case, they are both great synths refering to my experience with the SR model and demo videos of Wavestate.
@@medwaystudios The real Z-Plane filters are fiitted into the Morpheus and UltraProteus models, as far I know. Other E-MU models have a simplified and stripped-down Z-Plane.
Hello, do you think it's possible to get the same quality ambient sounds with the ultra proteus, or the morpheus comes with a kind of "special-unique sound" over the ultra proteus?
Hi, UltraProteus has the same engine as Morpheus, but they have a different set of ROM waves. UltraProteus is more for acoustic sounds, while Morpheus is better for ambient. You can check my channel for 'Insanity' tracks to hear the full power of the Morpheus synth - I quess UltraProteus would not be able to produce that kind of stuff.
Morpheus is very unique synth coz it can be very different - from nice sounding to bizarre noises. You can check "Insanity" track on my channel to hear what I'm talking about. Cheers!
I used it a lot years ago but recently I went back to it and thought it sounded weak, compared to FS1R and some other synths I've got, but I admit you made it sound good. I think it's the difficult editing that puts me off of my outboard stuff
FS1R definitely is the synth I also would like to have. Same as FIZMO. At a moment my tools are Kurzweil K2VX, E-mu Morpheus and UltraProteus, Blofeld, Wavestation and Kawai K5000. Every synth can be great if properly programmed, because most of the factory patches are just a crap.
I've got the FS1R. Havent used it much in a while because there was never a good PC editor for it but I found one a couple of days ago. It is quite cool that you can turn samples into FM Synthesis!
Sounds impressive! Many years ago I had the Yamaha DX21, still remember this my first synth ever... yeapp, FM is still cool thing. By the way, the Morpheus has a really nice PC editor called MorphEdit. It's freeware, you can find it over the internet.
+toberkitty You can find this synth over the i-net, ebay for example. Just keep in mind - Morpheus is not from the easy synths, it has tricky programming, also it have some tricks to connect to the PC or save/load patches etc. You must be familiar with these things well.
+oscillator I'm familiar with working with older gear and transferring patches to and from a computer. I make music with almost all hardware and most of my stuff is from the 80s and 90s. Anyway, I really love the sound of this. I used to have a Yamaha TG-33 and the Morpheus reminds me of it, though the sounds are more complex than the TG-33, imo. I only sold it because it's huge for a tabletop synth. I really liked it.
toberkitty Than you should check the ebay fo it, sometimes Morpheus appears there for 200-250 bucks. I told you about some tricks just because I also knew something about synths, but I spent few months to get work this synth with MorphEdit software on PC, also transfer sysex files without errors (using MIDI-OX program - adjust number of buffers and buffer sizes, there also was some problems with Windows XP MIDI drivers etc). But Z-Plane synth is great, this game worth the candle :)
Hello, thank you for your excellent demo. I bought a morpheus because of your video and these sounds. Can you please tell me which presets you used? Are they from these RAM/ROM banks?: www.emumania.net/emu-morpheus-sound-module/ In my bank 0 RAM there are other presets than listed on emu mania. Thanks for your help. Paul
There are many Factory RAM and ROM presets used in this demo, as well as custom patches. I started to fill the bank with custom patches long time ago, but it's still not full and ready-to-use. The idea was to create one full bank with 128 presets as commercial product, but it's not ready yet, unfortunately. I wish to complete the bank, but I really don't know yet when it will be ready. The reason you have different presets in your 0 RAM bank is that there are loaded presets from Morpheus Card Collection. You can easely restore the original RAM presets. To do this, you must Hold down “Cursor Left” and “Cursor Right” while powering on. To re-initialilize and ERASE all user preset data, select Diagnostic 16 and press enter. After this, the original Factory RAM presets will be restored.
@@_oscillator Thank you very much for your detailed reply. Let us know when your bank is ready. Or make a offer with less than 128 presets. I would be very interessted.
The audio outs are OK, the problem was in a cheap chinese USB-Audio audio interface for $10. Now I have better one, the Lexicon Alpha - you can hear the difference if you check my "Insanity" tracks. Same synth, better USB-Audio interface.
Hi, no external effects used - only internal FX processor. Those patches are not for sale, because the patch bank is not ready yet. Actually patches are not so important - the best part of this synth are realtime modulations, that let you create sounds instantly. You can hear this in "Insanity" tracks on my channel. Here is full power of the Morpheus synth !
oscillator it is a great synth, but it’s takes time to program (even though I use edisyn for the pc) and I really liked your sound design. I have “issues” with the effects - haven’t found a way to tie them to the preset and to me the effects are powerful sonic changers and should be part of the preset (which is by emu’s design I guess)
I've used the Morphedit software to program the Morpheus. Very clear and handy software, it's also freeware. About effects - there are not connected to the particular preset - you must work in Midimap mode to create effects for MIDI channel. The reason is that Morpheus is multi-timbral synth and E-mu creators decided to stack the FX processor to all 16 MIDI channels at once. It's little strange approach, but it's a little better than no FX at all... you can find about Midimaps in User Manual page 29.
oscillator yes I have the manual (and have studied it when stumped 🙄 😃) must check out morpedit then - I made 4 new patches yesterday and designed a nice fx setup for one of them - but it muffles and smears all the other patches - nice efx - but not generally usable so it’s only good for that one patch... so I need to design some more neutral midimaps (which edysyn cannot - so again must check out morphedit)
Dau That's a matter of taste - my K2VX has more analog-type-sound character than Morpheus, Kurzweil VAST algorithms has many analog emulations, but I never could make something similar like Morpheus' "Insanity" track on K2VX or any other synth, including modular or analog synths. That's it, Regards!
lovely sounds! really made me think about getting one... but it sounds kind of noisy in the video - is it the synth itself or are you just using bad AD-converters? cheers!
mariusdrescher My PC don't have a line-in so I used a cheap external USB-audio card (chinese for 10 bucks on ebay). After normalizing the recorded quieter sounds some noise appears, unfortunately. The synth itself has good output (Max. Signal to Quiescent Noise and Dynamic Range >90 dB, Frequency Response 20Hz-15kHz, Sample Playback Rate 39kHz, THD +N and IMD
This is the best demo I've ever heard on this highly underrated synth. Please forgive me if you have already been asked...but are these your own private sounds?
I'm glad you liked this demo. The Morpheus is really interesting synth with some very special features. In this video you can hear ROM presets, also patches from Morpheus Card Collection and some custom stuff. My patches are not for sale because the patch bank (128 sounds) is not completed yet. Actually patches are not the most powerful technique of this synth - the best results come from real-time modulations. You can hear this on ''Insanity'' tracks, there are 3 part on my channel. I will try to explore more about Morpheus synth in future to make some more videos. I still scratched the surface! Regards!
BCR2000 should work fine with 4 modulation channels of Morpheus (channels ABCD in Master page), but I'm not sure it will access the parameters in Morpheus patch edit mode, such as LFO, Filters, Envelopes, FG etc. The best way to program patches is using MorphEdit software and PC.
this instrument has a lot of hidden potential...but i think it lacks some important things like custom waveform facilities (no sampler or import of new samples) and the editing via panel is really tedious. Being a kurzweil user (ex user....) and knowing quite well the vast potential i guess....wouldn't be possible recreate the morpheus audio engine inside kurzweils?
+kyma1999x You're right - there is not possible to import sample waves into Morpheus. But... maybe it's not so necessary because Morpheus has so complex Filters, Modulation matrix and Function Generator which compensates the lack of wave expansion? You can check another track called "Insanity" on my channel and you will hear how different the Morpheus can be even with the same 8MB of wave ROM :) The trick is Z-Plane filter... which is so unique and never can be be created on other synthesis platforms, even on VAST which I know well because I also have the K2000 synth (check the demo on my channel).
My good friend Bob Bliss works at E-MU. He did the software engineering on it. Way to go BOB!! I'm STILL using my Proteus Plus!!
Yes, good work, definitely.
Not heard anything that betters E-MU products in the 21 years I bought mine. Cost a small fortune (£850 UK) but worth it!
Kurzweil K2000 also is great. And Kawai K5000. And Ensoniq Fizmo. And Hartmann Neuron.
Lucked out and found one last year for about half their regular price:). Great demo! Thanks!
Welcome to the Morpheus club, man!
This has to be the most amazing demo of the Morpheus I've ever heard!!! I'm totally inspired to get mine out and start programming!!!

@@audiolego Yes, I still have it and probably never sell.
This was and is the best sounding synth E-MU ever made!
+Karl Weaver Probably yes, although Ultra Proteus has the same synth engine as Morpheus. And even more Z-filters and waveforms! The best part of Z-plane is ability to morph into any type of sounds, for example you can hear how different it can be in my latest tracks called "Insanity" - you will never know it's the same synth as in this demo :) Regards!

a fabulous journey from start to finish, amazing work man!
I listened all last night. Amazing. Do you sell your patches for Morpheus? I also am getting a Kawai K5m and an Emax ii.
I'll pay. Cheers!
Are you using outboard effects or is this all in-synth?

Yes, I still have my Morpheus, even more - I got also the UltraProteus, which is a big brother of Morpheus. I would like to make some demo about UP synth also, they both has same synth engine.
Does the Morpheus have wave shape shifting as you find here: th-cam.com/video/hJgT0KpfdWc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Propellerhead
I been looking at the Korg Prologue as a candidate synth - just to give you the caliber of quality I adore.
Cheers.
Marvelous sounds....EMU was an awesome synth/sampler maker!!!
Definitely!
So was Ensoniq, now they are all collecting dust. :-/
@@randomtux392 Sorry to hear that
A great performance on one of the greatest Synthesizer Modules from E-mu.
Thanks for your kind comment. Cheers !
Confused how y'all missed the best preset of all, 090 BigWill!
That's a ROM preset and that's why I missed it. But that patch is actually good.
I do also use the bass boost control, since neither 78's or LP's particularly excel at reproducing low frequencies, even with equalization, e.g.,
RIAA. Of course, most 78's used equalization, but it varied from manufacturer to manufacturer. P.S. In my original comment I forgot to mention one other legacy hardware synth in my studio, a Waldorf MicroWave XT, a knob tweakers dream!
For me, BBE 382i works as an equalizer to lift the ends of the spectrum. Other effects I use only internal effects of synthesizers.
Hi oscillator,
this sounds really impressiv you made here.
Thanks for the commentary on my channel,
Greatings and best wishes from Germany
Thanks !
Wow, this thing's got some really beautiful sounds... love the lush pads! What an amazing synth module!
Morpheus is great synth for pads, ambient and sound effects. You can check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel to hear the power of this unique synth!
Wow over an hour of sounds, had to save this and listen when I have more time... thanks for posting
Thanks for visiting, Best Regards !
Nice demo not many good z-plane demos on youtube
Mel Shivson Yes, the Morpheus is totally underrated synth.
But people who knows about synthesis also knows the Morpheus :)
Nice, a wide variety of Timbre!
@kickdje The sound of Morpheus is not super clean, due to specific and comnplex filters - they can unexpectedly produce some distortion . But I like this synth because it sounds warm and lively, even if it's digital.
Wow this is a truly in depth demo!
I tried to show the best of the Morpheus.
Thanks for stopping by mate.
Cheers
That's a real good sounding digital synth !
Your playing aesthetic is wonderful friend.
Well done.
Yes, it is amazing synth and it can be very different - if you check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel and you could not believe it's the same synth :) Thanks for visiting, Best Regards mate !
Are you using any editor to design your patches or just the internal pages ?
Ares Kalogeropoulos
Marvin Gun You're welcome to check some bizarre stuf from the Morpheus synth - new video called "Insanity". Greetings!
Now you have a lot of soft synth that can play ambient sounds very well. But i must say,the sound of the Morpheus is outstanding.
Yes, the Morpheus can do even more - you can hear this if you check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel. Everything was recorded using only Morpheus synth, nothing else. Cheers!
dirk keersmaekers True. I use Omnisphere 2 a lot. But this thing sounds huge compared to software.
@@_oscillator Have you ever tried the Ultra Proteus? I was thinking of picking one up, but it looks like its the same as the Morpheus.
@@aristotlekumpis7095 Take it for sure! I have also the UltraProteus - it has the same engine as Morpheus, but they have different set of ROM waves. They both are great, you will be not dissapointed.
Congrats on these patches oscillator!
Lovely, full and warm sounds, great programming!
Morpheus is still going strong in good hands :)
+artenuovoglobal Thank you very much :) Yes, Morpheus is amazing synth coz it can be warm and melodic, but it also can be dark & demonic... You can hear this in my latest track called "Insanity" which is recorded entirely on Morpheus. This will be something completely different :)
Very Nice! Such smooth sounds, but still so much timbre variations.
+Super Fata You right, the Morpheus has very complex filter system, also advanced modulation matrix and 'Function generators' which all together makes Z-plane to sound very wide and different. I'm more than happy with this synth :)
+oscillator Is it hard to program? I mean, if you know your synth basics.
Oh my... I. Want. One. Now. ;)
Super Fata
Yup, this synth is unique, a dream for every sound designer :) It sounds nothing special by default, factory presets are very average and don't show the real power of Z-planes at all, but if you dig deeper, it's a real treasure chest :) It needs a bit of patience to understand how it works, also some tricks to work with SysEx files to save and load the presets between synth and PC, also edit them as hexadecimal codes to modify the parameters without the synth (such as preset number, controllers etc), but this game is worth the candle :)
Really good demo, thanks.
Yeapp, the Morpheus is great synth with unique sound :) Thanks for visiting, Regards!
good evening my friend,,,,,,....Listening your sound................................................more then one hour ...no problem....I have time....OK ...no writing anymore...just gonna listen...............
Amazing demo! Best on the Morpheus.
Regards!
Stunning sounds!
Thanks, the Morpheus in an amazing synth!
Sounds great!
Thanks !
Here is the other unique and quality synth. Maybe i would like one. I think it's perfect psybient synth. (Nice demo).
Hadron Orchestra Hello mate! If you're interested to hear psymbient sounds of this synth, please check my latest video called "Insanity". This track is made entirely on Morpheus - it will give you full spectre of this type of sounds! Greetings
Love this Morpheus sounds!! Thanks for upload
Sounds amazing, greetings!
Greetings to you!
All the best wishes and lot of inspiration, Cesar!
Amazing work! Sounds great!
Thanks man, actually this synth can sound very different. In this demo you can hear mostly pad sounds, but Morpheus is great also for ambient and sound FX - if you check the "Insanity" tracks. In this role Morpheus is unique. Cheers
This synth y amazing!
Agree for 100% ..... Morpheus is really unique synth !
great pad synth sound !
shirokumaxxx The Morpheus is perfect synth for pads and sound FX! Regards :)
That was a very lengthy demo. Nice. Are all sounds your custom programs?
Some of these sounds are factory presets, but mostly I played my own programs.
Amazing sounds! I like it! Thank you for sharing! Greetings, Matthias
Hi! Yes, that's right. It sounds great.
Oh wow,......this is an excellent demo, & a great synth! I have an E-MU Mo'Phatt, but it's nothing like this Morpheus!
Gerry No That's true - Mo'Phatt is aimed for hip-hop, R'n'B, dance and stuff like that, while Morpheus is field for truly electronic sounds and sonic experiments. They are very different synths.
oscillator I want this synth so badly. I keep checking eBay, (like 3-4 times per week) but no Morpheus ever comes up for auction. }:o{
I guess I can kind of see why. It doesn't seem like the kind of synth that owners would willingly want to part with. Oh well. When I finally do get one, (and I WILL get one!) the waiting & anticipation will make owning & using it that much sweeter. :-)
Gerry No
Actually it's not so bad - I've checked eBay and there is one Morpheus auction in UK.
(or which has better filters)
2000 - Filter - 128 (multiple types with resonance, including Z-Plane filters)
2500 - Filter - 50 types of 6th- and 12th-order Z-plane filters
Both appear to have "Z-Plane". The 2000 has more filters, (2.5X) but I have no idea what "6th & 12th order" means, or what "order" the 2000 has.
Morpheus - Filter - 32 14-Pole Interpolating Digital Filters employing 32-bit internal arithmetic; 198 programmed filter types)
Morpheus seems to have to most filters. (& I've heard what it can do!)
I think I'll wait for the Morpheus.
I appreciated your offer of software, & when the time comes, I will definitely take you up on that offer. ;-)
Gerry No
So there is what I found over the i-net:
The P2500 is 4 rack spaces.
Cheers
Aphex Twin has one - say no more!
Yes, he knows what is good.
This synth... the patches are so sci-fi but so ahead into the future.
Morpheus synth can be completely different - you can check the "Insanity" tracks on my channel.
Cheers
Dear Morpheus Lovers!
"Morphing Worlds" Soundset is here: th-cam.com/video/-sniPI7mJD0/w-d-xo.html
With 128 Ambient/Analogue Programs.
Amazing sounds! Will try to do a bit more programming with mine but would be good to have access to these presets.
@@_oscillator ok I understand. Thanks. I have just started editing mine with Edisyn. Any tips you can share to achieve similar sounds?
From what I understand, the Morpheus has more filter types, but I find it difficult to mentally translate this to "would it be worth it?"
It sounds nice enough, but I already have such a ridiculous amount of sonic potential at my fingertips, that the question begs whether I should perhaps focus on what I already have.
@@_oscillator Ah, you're the person behind Insanity? Excellent demos, those.
Did you polish the sound coming out of this thing? It sounds real lush and thick, even more so then later emus.
This is a real eye opener. As an ardent Roland fan, Morpheus would compliment the soundscape quite nicely.
+Rick Clausen Music Yes, the Morpheus is perfect for pads, sound FX and also some weird stuff too :) If you're interested, please check my latest works called "Insanity" - I showed there the dark side of the Morpheus :) Regards!
Brilliant ! I found it ! Thank you for sharing this exploration into sonic landscapes, now I will go and check out your “Insanity” video’s ....
This demo shows the musical side of Morpheus, especially pad sounds. "Insanity" tracks are completely different, coz there are only sound effects and ambient noises. Morpheus synth is extremely flexible for any genre of music!
@@_oscillator Yes, I've listened through, very creative and use of some depth of the Morpheus, thank you !
Very interesting clip ! Nice demo :-)
Wow, sounds excellent. Great work :)

That's nice if you liked this, tnx for watching and Happy New Year mate!
Thank you so much, Oscillator.
You're welcome mate, Regards!
About editor - mostly I use MorphEdit software, SoundDiver is also good and sometimes I use Midi Quest as well.
oscillator
Can the MorphEdit run on win 7?
TheSynthZone Yes, it works on Win7 also. MorphEdit v0.912 can run on XP, Vista and both 32-bit and 64-bit Win7. The last version MorphEdit v1.000 works on XP, Vista and 32-bit Win7 only.
lovely sounds m8 , subbed also ; ) very rich sounds nice
Thanks for subbing, I also like the sound of Morpheus.
Highly recommended synth! Cheers
Great Demo :D
+Len “len303” kps Thanks mate :) Your acidtones discovered the power of Z-planes to me, wonderful collection, really! In this demo are most of melodic patches, I also have some dark Sci-Fi stuff on my latest two tracks called "Insanity". Best Regards!!!
Great sounds! are your patches available for purchase? I would love to to have them in my Morpheus
I would be happy with already 80 sounds of this quality....
The crazy thing about these sounds is they are not copyrighted to use in a movie or song....
That's not so important for me, coz I never got a single penny for my music anyway. It's just a hobby for me.
Are you saying these sounds made from the Morpheus can’t be used commercially? And if so why?
Really awesome Demo. Making want to get my mothballed Morpheus out of mothballs.
Murray Browne You right, this old synth module really is a Monster :)
It is killer of all
This synth is capable for even more - I've recorded all 3 parts of "Insanity" track, using only a single Morpheus synth.
*****
You're right - the sound of Morpheus is very warm and soft, if you compare to other synths. That's because ROM samples of this synth are smooth and Z-Plane filters has very analog-type curves. Amazing and unique synth :)
*****
I definitely will check your website :) I'm always interested to hear somthing new! Another thing I can show you is my latest video there on my channel - it's called "Insanity" and it's recorded entirely on Morpheus synth. But it is something completely different, some sci-fi horror stuff :)
No its not great. It made me cry. Its beyond great.
Jan Martin Ulvåg
Thanks Jan!... I'm glad you liked this :)
(though I can't do even .01% of what oscillator does with his Morpheus, 😖 hehehe)
woah ! some awesome sounds in this machine! - i'm amazed i didn't get one when they first came out wtf ha
+andy carter Yes. the Morpheus is great for pads and ambient stuff :) This demo is more for pads, I also have two tracks called 'Insanity' which shows the dark side of this synth. Cheers mate!
would be cool if you made a tutorial series on this synth. I know that's asking a lot =)
I am impressed ! Where can I find more information about the E-MU Morpheus? is there a tutorial for programming?
Yes, you can get the Owner's Manual there:
www.synthmanuals.com/manuals/emu/morpheus/owners_manual/
Basically all functions of Morpheus are described in this manual, but this synth have one more option which is not writen there - the Lucky Accident.. Morpheus is full with surprises, I showed some of them on my "Insanity" tracks :)
Well I sure learn a lot from from this. Just wait and see...
We always learning something. all the time. That makes us better (mostly).
Ooh can't wait for the eurorack versions of this, Morpheus and Control Forge. Had to come for a listen to the original :)
Eurorack version of Z-Plane filters is great idea, should be exciting to work with it :)
oscillator
It's coming. Rossum Electronics (E-mu).
If what I have been reading is correct, the downside on the Eurorack Morpheus Z-Plane Filter is it's only monophonic. These filters really shine in polyphonic synthesis, like harmonies and chords.
@@terrencemann2278 So, what you're saying is you need two.
@@bitspacemusic from what I'm hearing one per instrument voice. Could be wrong, but the Eurorack is a monophonic instrument.
....nice...I wish I had one of those right here...
Great synth, no doubt.
@@_oscillator so would you rather recommend the Ultra (because of the more numerous filter cubes), as the wavesets aren't that different?
This synth sounds really great! Tell me please where should I get rhis wonderfull presets for my own Morpheus?
So it's just begining!
oscillator I hear ya...sometimes all that effort = will pay off..I'm gonna check out more of your Vids..I Subscribed for sure
rhampton1914
Every effort to make your synth sound as you like, worth every minute (hour, day, year) you spend for this :) Thanks for subscribing!
Can the Korg Wavestate achieve the results of wave shaping where within the context of music the Wavestate compares with the Z-Plane?
@@bobcatt2294 All the Best !
@@_oscillator Hi Oxcilltor - reading again you response, I notice you are referring to the Wavestation and not the Wavestate.
@@bobcatt2294 I have a Wavestation SR model. Unfortunately I never had a chance to try the new Wavestate. I think they should be mostly similar, but maybe I'm wrong. In any case, they are both great synths refering to my experience with the SR model and demo videos of Wavestate.
I did not realize it untill just now, that my Emulator 4 comes with 21 Z-plane filters.
Yes, same as E-Synth and some other models of E-MU.
They're not true zplane like this module though.
@@medwaystudios The real Z-Plane filters are fiitted into the Morpheus and UltraProteus models, as far I know. Other E-MU models have a simplified and stripped-down Z-Plane.
yeah..! cool sounds oscillator...!!
Ant GM Thanks, I'm happy you liked them!
Never got mine to sound this good but i might fire it up
Morpheus is very unique synth coz it can be very different - from nice sounding to bizarre noises.
I shouldn't have watched this. Now I want it.
Hello,
thank you for your excellent demo.
I bought a morpheus because of your video and these sounds.
Can you please tell me which presets you used?
Are they from these RAM/ROM banks?:
www.emumania.net/emu-morpheus-sound-module/
In my bank 0 RAM there are other presets than listed on emu mania.
I would be very interessted.
very nice synth, but sounds like it has a really noisy output. is that normal?
The audio outs are OK, the problem was in a cheap chinese USB-Audio audio interface for $10. Now I have better one, the Lexicon Alpha - you can hear the difference if you check my "Insanity" tracks. Same synth, better USB-Audio interface.
Is this the onboard reverb? Nice sounds!
Yes, only internal FX is used here.
Marvellous. Any external effects? And do you sell patch libraries?
I am an analog guy but there are def some digital sounds I appreciate - quite a few in this demo
Regards!
3:00 What’s that bass sound? Is that a preset
I don’t remember exactly, but it was probably a kick drum.
I think to program this beautiful synth is a pain. Maybe an hardware controller can be done with a bcr2000
You can check another track called "Insanity" on my channel and you will hear how different the Morpheus can be even with the same 8MB of wave ROM :) The trick is Z-Plane filter... which is so unique and never can be be created on other synthesis platforms, even on VAST which I know well because I also have the K2000 synth (check the demo on my channel).
drooling
Yes, the Morpheus is unique synth with very special sound. Cheers!
Drooling big-time, I feel you.
