I would love to share with California.Insider. I know Mr Brain James and he speaks truth. I am part of the new rehabilitation programs in prison and am going back into the prison systems to continue sharing the much needed insight of why we ended up in prison to the individuals still serving time in California prisons.

U.S prisons need to have opportunities for men to change. You can’t just lock a man up for years and offer no proper way of changing himself. It’s no wonder you have a high rates of returning back to prison. This man made a life changing choice. You only live a one life & letting the life go by you is plain foolish. This man an alternative route. I’m glad he can be that role model to get out of that cycle of violence. To me, I see a great character of a man willing to change & be a good man.

What a powerful message. I was moved to tears over the healing that took place between Brian and the victims of similar crimes as well as the canine program that Zach has brought into prisons. A very important shoutout to 12 step recovery for making this all possible. This is life changing stuff right here and we need to look at the positive change that has sprung from giving people a chance to heal, learn and become who they really are. MUCH LOVE Brian, never, never, never give up!

Right on Brother Brian! As a former inmate of the CDC, Oh excuse me CDCR I witnessed it all during my 47 month stretch! Yes, I was a outlaw at one time and was facing 15 years, but was fortunate enough to beat a few charges. At heart I wasn't born a criminal or a drug addict but made a few bad choices which led to many years of the outlaw life. I believe I am of average intelligence and actually a kind hearted human. I too have turned my life around. I have been clean, sober and a law abiding citizen for 20 years. Because I want to be. Not because of CDCR. I have watched many issues unfold while doing my time. I have also watched the same story as Brian's unfold a handful of times while also watching dead lifer's being wheeled out on stretchers. The reason Brian made it out is not because of CDCR's rehabilitation but because of Brian's willingness to make the best of the available programs and determination in turning his life around! Brian saved his life not the CDCR! I could go on and on about how the CDCR really is and how, if there isn't drastic change it will only continue to get worse!

I grew up in El Monte til I was 10, then moved to Baldwin Park as I got older & I can tell you that in this area 15 - 20 east of east L.A. at least in the late 80's - early 90's every young man had to make a decision about being in or being out of the gangs I chose to be out I have friends that chose to be in & it's a sad thing to see what that decision as a young person has made on some of us , I have a few friends that are dead, a friend in a wheel chair from a drive by another went into a 20 + year acoma & at least 2 friends that went into the Mexican Mafia that I i know longer know what happened to them, my drug addict friends are about a dozen or more & the only thing that helped me is that I got lucky & moved out of state for a good 20 + years, when I moved back I was shocked to see how they all ended up, I still love & care for them all but I had to let them go as they are no longer the same young kids I grew up with, they adapted to the streets of so cal, my point is this is your thinking of moving to almost anywhere in California & you have kids or thinking of having kids, Don't you wont know how treacherous it can be until your in the thick of it, you dont have to look for problems out here its bad in about 75% of the state the other 25% are super rich exclusive or gated communities but if your not rich enough to afford that & plan on moving here learning to deal with some type of gang, drugs or homeless is something you will have to learn to deal with & if you come anyways, I wish you good luck.

Good for him and those like him. But this is a small percentage of programming individuals in prisons like this guest.
I’m all for self betterment, but next time @Siyamak Khorrami let’s ask question and get legitimate answers to: “what about the child molesters and sex offenders with heinous rap, sheets and other offenders with criminal behavior patterns that are going to be a threat to public safety, that will be benefitting from this Gavin Newscum model or SB’s”.
How do they plan to prove to tax payers this investment is working?
This is not Norway and anyone who believes so is putting others at risk because of this experiment.
I hope more criminals take the approach to change but I don’t think it’s going to be the number of success story’s they’re promising in Sacramento.

16:26 “under the age of 18 there is no way for you hold the skills in life to make rational decisions that the state is going to bind you for the rest of your life”?! It you can have a sec change and have the school hold this information from your parents. You don’t need to inform your parents you are getting help to make such life changing choice, wow the hypocrisy nothing makes sense anymore.
