    If you brought the quantity of lentils up to a reasonable amount, 1/2 cup, you would come up with 8 grams. Lentils are one of the highest quality sources of vegan protein, are extremely affordable, and do not require processing or refrigeration prior to cooking. They are at the top of the list but you didn’t give them the credit they deserve.

    This helps to show that green leafy vegetables aren't the top providers of plant-based protein? For example, where is kale which is supposed to be the new beef. You have nutritional yeast on your plant-based protein chart which many people don't consider vegan. It would be helpful if you suggest that vegans track their food intake to see how much protein, fat, and carbs they really are consuming. Veganism is a high carb-centric lifestyle. Most vegans consumes around 10% of their diet in proteins.

    I love your vids, I have to say I come often. I came particularly for this one in hopes you mention Hemp seeds. You see I have a dilemma here. I'm fully aware of the impact and how amazing hemp is, what gets me everyday is looking at vegans and watching how little do they care for the most medicinal plant in the world. I'm by far amazed on how such a plant goes ignored.

    • @zaftersoarseaweed
      @zaftersoarseaweed 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Twistedhippy I mean ya sure, dude I'm just bewildered to a point I might need therapy and the only therapy I need is to legalize a plant that feeds, clothes, shelters (yes a hemp houses are better than modern houses, no mold problems and chemical free) and medicates you. At the same time it cleans the environment. You have to be on lithium to not be outraged. I'm sorry to be so blunt but its true this is nothing more than insanity and everyone is treating it like its an intellectual debate. Its not!

    • @SwahaChris
      @SwahaChris ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yes12337 it has good levels of iron, however it is non-heme iron, which we don't absorb as well as as heme iron (from animal source).
      And considering the quantities of nettle leaves you can ingest per day (1 to 2 teaspoons of nettle powder at best), it won't really boost iron levels in the body.. But it has many other phytochemicals and micronutrients.. Definitely an amazing herb to include in our diet.

    (in response to this video) ... google tells me 1 cup = 250g.
    therefore 1/2cup = 125 grams.
    Pumpkin seeds, according to my product label states that it contains 24.4g of protein per 100g of pumpkin seeds. This is very different from your measurment of 1/2cup p seeds = 6g of protein (I think you have greatly made an undermeasurment)!
    Please let me know if i have made an error in my understanding!

    I find the measurement of 'cup' to be very difficult to understand as it seems to be different for every food source. My attempts to find out how many grams of spinach for example, in one cup has given me responses varying from 25gr - 200gr.!!! It would be easier just to use grams, or if you really insist, in ounces, as at least I can calculate how much that is!

      Is that liquid, solid, or what? Because volume doesn't equate to weight. Weight is mass x gravity. 1 cup, is volume and it is different for everything. For an extreme example: one cup sand is heavier than one cup of water. Density = mass/volume.

      Rosie Miranda not sure if already found out the information but alternatives to animal protein is just plant based protein which is what Dr. Berg was talking about in this video. Dont focus on all these so called meat substitutes which are made from soy or wheat gluten (vegan hot dogs, vegan chicken etc.) So its Legumes (peas, beans, Lentils) Pseudograins (Quinoa, wild rice, amaranth, buckwheat) seeds ( sesame, chia, hemp, pumpkin, sunflower, flax) and sprouts
      As for healthy plant based fat that would be avocado, coconut (oil, cream, canned milk, flour ) nuts, nut butters, hemp seed oil pumpkin seed oil, flaxseed oil, extra virgin olive oil, olives

    I have a dilemma. I just can't find the right answer. Because there's two sides of the fence. I'm trying to build muscle weight lifting and doing 16-8 Intermittent fasting. My lifestyle only allows me to work out at 5am, a half hour after I wake up. I read it's very important to replenish oneself after weightlifting. But my 8 hr window for eating is from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm...so I'm going 5 hrs just drinking water, a little black coffee and vitamins for 5 hrs. It just doesn't feel right. I know I could change my window of eating hours, but then I wouldn't be eating at the supper table with my wife 4 kids after she cooks a nice meal...
    What do I dooo??
    Keep fasting? They say it goes well because of the benefits and hgh release.
    Don't fast? Watch calories? Feed when hungry? And after a workout?

      Are you trying to build lean muscle or go bulky? Cause you’ll eventually build muscle if you keep weightlifting.. If you have fat and even if you still have a lot of fat on your body- the muscles under those fats are still getting stronger… So it could just be about losing fat if you feel there’s no results in muscle building which also takes time

    Dr Berg, what do you think about plant-based VEGA Sport protein? Is it a good idea to do one shake of this instead of trying to get the vegan proteins from eating a lot from other sources?

    From my understanding... the protiens we get from animals, are completely different to the protiens in plants... A gorilla does not eat meat yet is huge.. So this makes meat protiens 3rd party protiens.. and I feel animals are supposed to eat other animals... chickens, cows, pigs etc... that is not our food... it's other animals food..

    Thanks for the video. Can you specify the difference between organic and non gmo. I thought organic meant no pesticides or chemicals, but organic produce can still be genetically modified and cross bred?

      My understanding is that organic has to be GMO free. All organic is non GMO but not all non GMO is organic kind of deal

    For serving size, should lentils be close to 1 cup? If so, is this raw or after it's cooked?

      Thank you for this question. Unfortunately, we do not have any recommended videos about the best way to consume lentils. We will try to further expand on this topic soon though. Thank you for the question.

      @@Drberg No problem. Also sorry for any confusion. I'm sure no one eats raw lentils. But I was trying to figure out the amount one would eat as a protein. In the video it states 1table spoon. So, I was trying to figure out is that all one needs during consumption verses some one eating 3oz of chicken. All n all, Thanks for the reply.
