    I just discovered your channel and your videos are great as is your work. Not quite sure I understand how you made the diamonds. The rings right before you glue then together to make the diamonds don’t look the same. I’ll have to watch again. My first complicated turning was using walnut diamonds outlined with maple and it was a challenge.

    Beautiful piece. I am currently only doing segmented bowls. The problem I have is in the inside. There must be a difference in carbides as I seam to get bad catches with a round carbide. I am taking light cuts. Any suggestions? Thanks again for sharing your video.

    • @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft
      @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Curtis, thanks for watching. Yep, I know what you mean. I sometimes too get them with a round carbide cutter on the inside. Make sure that your tool rest is as close to the project as possible. If dull, make sure to rotate the cutter head or sharpen it using a diamond stone. Make sure also that the horizontal height on the tool rest is cutting at the equator of the project. If all else fails, use a well-sharpened 5/8 bowl gouge to shape it down enough for the scraper.

    I'm curious, It seems you've mixed details of two different bowl assemblies in this video, the Zig-Zag style (best seen at counter 4:33) and the chain-link style (shortly after at counter >4:36). It took me a while to figure that out, but I did see the clever trick that gives the chain-link effect back at 3:54. Nice

    Hi Dan, the software you are using, when you create a segmented piece either the bowl you made or a pen blank etc, can the software show what the final product will look like.

    • @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft
      @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not exactly, but close enough. The software does not take into consideration how you will shape it. But, it does comes close to showing you the final outcome.

      I see, I am actually using your video to make a diamond bowl. Last night I was in my shop till 11pm cutting the 32 degree pieces and clamping them together, lining them up took a bit of time. This morning I cut the ends off but then got rudely irrupted by one of my builders so I had to run to a job. Ever since I bought a lathe I’ve been addicted to turning and when I picked up a drum sander the quality of my bowls went up ten folds. Now I hunt for ideas.. Thanks for your video!!!

    Your work is great as always but I wonder why you don't use a riving knife on your table saw. Watching those long slats of wood being pressed through the saw with no riving knife and no downward pressure has me seeing visions of the board catching and flying upward and back toward you. Obviously you know what you are doing but the table saw is a scary tool not to be taken granted of.

    • @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft
