I have their H5 released under the Baofeng BF-H5 label. I get almost 9 watts out of it. Fantastic battery life. However, the USB-C port is just a "hole" in the side of the radio. There's a sale on the H6s right with two batteries and other accessories on Amazon (Under 45 bux)....Wondered however if I should get the H8 OR even the H3 (OR BOTH) instead? (Unlocking the H3) Having a blast with the Quansheng firmware options now.
Are you sure the battery is what's getting hot? The heat sink of this radio is the entire length of the radio, and the battery recesses into this heat sink. I use mine on mid power, and only use Hi power if I really need it. So far I've had no issues involving a lot of heat.
They seemed to have a short in the battery or RF back feeding through the terminals. They changed batteries and did firmware update and that eliminated the problem. This was many months ago so see my updated videos on the TidRadio after this. Thanks Ham-Solo K0FYR
Good review, and beautiful scenery. The H8 HT putting out 10 Watts and possible RF exposure is a bit scary. Without a perfect antenna to fully radiate the power, the power has to go _somewhere,_ such as the user’s hand via the battery contacts. All other things being equal, 10 Watts is only 1/2 an S unit stronger at the receive site versus 5 Watts. Sometimes 1/2 an S unit is the difference between opening squelch and being heard in an emergency versus a receiver staying muted. It is great to have the extra output capability, but using it sparingly is probably a good idea.
I agree. Someone commented they used a better antenna and their problem went away. I’m still gathering data and working with TidRadio for a solution so more to follow. Ham-Solo K0FYR
Pretty sure it was RF burn from transmitter. Had it happen when touching an antenna wire by accident but not those battery charging disks. TidRadio told me last night they are having the engineers look into it. Ham-Solo K0FYR
Unfortunately - the radiation should be more of a concern - since you don't feel that heat. Insulting the rig from heat just covers up the problem which is not related to the brand of the rig but the power and distance to the brain with ALL HT units.

Great video!! The battery charge pads getting hot with RF is a real concern. I bought a gen2 TD-H8 on Amazon a few days ago and I'm returning it because in all of the radio checks I did, I was told that I had really low audio . The gen1 had that issue and I had heard the Gen2 addressed that. I was contacted by Tdiradio after I initiated the Amazon return, and was told that the ODMaster programmer can be used to change the mic gain setting from the factory. So I'm considering buying one again, but before I do that, can you confirm that there is a mic gain setting in ODMaster? Keep us posted on what becomes of the charging pads. Thanks and 73 de KN6VMK
