- Il y a quelques jours, le contrebassiste Avishai Cohen était l'invité du #DeliExpress. Son nouvel album "Shifting Sands" marque un retour à la source du trio, avec Elchin Shirinov au piano et Roni Kaspi à la batterie.
Un projet qu'ils présenteront le 17 mai à la Cigale.

Well this is amazing.
I really like how, in a smaller ensemble like this, which is quite sonically sparse, a good drummer has the space to use the whole kit as an instrument, and create so many subtle textures. Another particularly good example is Joey Alexander's Tiny Desk concert. The drummer there is playing a super-minimalist kit but he coaxes so many sounds of it.
It's obviously common in Jazz, Elvin Jones with Coltrane particularly comes to mind, or Fusion where I'd immediately think of something like Bright Size Life. In rock I think of something like Lucky Man by ELP; but, there's just so much less opportunity for it because of the denser sonics and overriding need for groove I guess.

What time signature is this in?😅
The first main part seems to be 9/8 with a lot of syncopation thrown in that makes it sound like a lot more is going on, then dropping a beat for 8/8 for the little breaks between cycles.

Man, I play together thinking in 7/4 ... you cant think in 7/8 too, but 7/4 match more. Watch the left foot of the Roni (drums), She counting in eightnotes ... 1 e 2 e 3 e 4 e 5 e 6 e 7 e.
@@PINELISMOyeah, I get 14/8. Like 12/8 with 2 extra 8th notes. 123, 123, 123, 123, 12. With the piano playing dotted eights and every time he “does that thing”, they drop the extra 2 eighth notes.

ça vient peut-être de votre système d’écoute qui ne descend pas assez dans les graves, sinon on l’entend mieux sur le solo à partir du milieu (et c’est une contrebasse)
