I'm not much of a drum solo guy. I've never found drum solos in jazz all that interesting, but Simon Phillips with Hiromi and now Roni Kaspi is making me change my mind about how awesome jazz drum solos can be.
I also cried- I've never gotten emotional with any drummer's playing- what a beautiful feeling!She is off the charts- Imagine her and Taj created a band (what???!!)
It's amazing to hear yet another version of this piece Avishai Cohen has played som many times with his trio, sometime with an orchestra - such as done in Antwerp on May 12th 2023. Maybe thanks to his long inspired introduction, he allowed fantastic drums player Roni Kaspi to also get out of the know path in her drums solo! I'm again blown away. Congrat's, Roni. You're 23yo, and we are hopefully going to be often amazed by you for the years to come. Thanks again Avishai Cohen for giving a chance to such talented young musicians!
Just awesome. All three musicians are. But as a drummer I focused on her. Superb playing. Seems to be creative rudiments based. The triples and i think quads are so cool. But what nails this is her composition and orchestration around the kit. Wow. Very inspirational. Is this in a seven time signature? Cheers. Bill.
Excellent trio play. Avishai is uniquely expressive on the bass and very musical. Guy and Roni are great. I am really loving Roni's approach, though. Guy's restraint and drive are integral to the way the tune works.
It is very difficult to feature the bottom of the rhythm section as the lead with the outcome being exciting.He is able to play in a style that suits his nature and ability. The great thing about Jazz is that it can go almost anywhere within what we can process.
Yeah drums can be very dynamic especially with the right drummer for that girl to play like that as I was just off the rails musically technically dynamically hair coloring❤
