  • Another cool adventure, on our recent trip to the Rockies. Highly recommended! Take the full, sardine cage ride with us, 1000 ft. below the surface, and walk and ride through the old, granite tunnels, of this decommisioned gold mine.

    I love the Cripple Creek & Victor area. It's got the strangest layout and strangest vibe. There's nowhere else like it. It's absolutely fascinating

      Mike Olson I am definitely wanting to go! I have two daughters and they are used to seeing me drywash and metal detect but they haven’t been to a real hard rock lode style mine before. This one is looking good to take them to for sure

      Hi Mike, is that what a working mine is like or is it just made to be bright and clean for the tour?

    I used to live in Teller County back in the 70s and Cripple Creek was the count seat. We used to love to go to the old courthouse to conduct any business, but I think they built a new one.
    We were through there last year and the amount of changes to the area has been staggering.............not all for the better.

    Was fortunate enough to goto Cripple Creek for 8 days in the summer. Beautiful weather and plenty to do. We stayed at a mountain side cabin overlooking the town. Highly recommend 👌

    This is one of the best gold mine tours in the US the mine has always had a tour all the way back to 1890.

    Fill me pockets full of gold! Awesome trip some 1,000 feet below! Man those must have been some harsh and deafening conditions to work in! Often wondered what happened if they struck heavey water blasting and drilling deep in a hole! Thanks for sharing CD

    Been down twice in the early 90's. They had a mine cart with gold ore samples for free, and I got a button saying Ive been down 1000 feet.
    Memories!

    I went in the early 90s along with 6 family members and I was to young to go down by myself and none of them would go with me so we left but in 2005 4 of my family members and me went back and I was old enough to go by myself and I did but I was struggling to breathe during the whole time we were in up elevations of Colorado I could breathe just fine down in the mine though

    that was pretty kool - I bet the wife & you really enjoyed that - I bet they brought a lot of gold out of that mine back in the day, bet they make a lot of $$ just off tours - did you wear your hoodie up - thanks for sharing parts of your kool vaca

    • @creekdalton
      @creekdalton  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man, it was actually surprisingly comfortable down there, not very cold at all. Other mines connect to this one and share common shafts and tunnel intersection areas, to bring stuff to and from the surface. The Mollie Kathleen is estimated to only have had 5% of the gold removed, with 95% still in the rock, but now they would have to pay the government somewhere around $50 million, to start it back up again. All together, there are an estimated 10,000 miles of mine tunnels in the region.

    I did the tour in 93, they said the price was to low to make it worth it so I assumed that it would be mining again. Every visitor was given a small piece of rock from the vain. That rock was solid white and looked like any garden rock you could get at Home Depot....I guess it was.

      Unfortunately not, but we did each get a little complimentary chunk of it to take home, at the end of this tour. Maybe I can seed it in the cave, here at home, and it'll grow, lol?
