Why would he put it out? Without that fire this video wouldn't have almost 500,000 views soon to be a million. Now he has enough money to buy ten more of these
Batteries can conduct heat easily wich means if they're on fire there is a chance that it'll explode. Plus he had a kid with him so if he got close to put it out and it exploded it could've taken half his face off and in no condition to drive to the emergency room. It's called hobby grade for a reason it's not some "Toy" you can buy at walmart for $20.
That was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. I'm happy that you were able to bounce back so fast, though. Something like that would have scared a lot of guys out of the game. Keep your head up, sir. We've all got your back!
*Car starts to smolder* 5 minutes later (Just standing and watching) "Yep, guys we have a total loss here." (He only has like $1000 in the car, so you know, what the heck?)
The problem wasn't the battery, it was his gear ratio. Pinion to big, spur to small which caused his battery and his electronics to heat up. Pause it at 11 seconds...don't over gear, keep your pinion 24T and smaller your spur should be close to 86 tooth (48 pitch). If you want to go faster. Motor up but make sure you ESC can support the motor and battery you want to run.
That was a sad video, reading some of the post on here there are some willing to help...Hope the help takes the edge off the pain, that truck was a beauty...
Wow, Just now seeing this, agreed, I'm glad the other RC brothas got you back on track so soon. Congrats on making it into the club aswell.(MIDWID) Holla
Smart man. Brought me to tears watching it burn though. Alas, better lose a car then be disfigured or die. This is also why I plan to never go above 2s lipo
I love my Traxxas Bandit car. There is a warning for lipo batteries that says that they can catch fire. Must have been defective cells in the battery. Also the esc have smoked and burned. I feel sorry for you loss and the expense too!
' i have a good rustler with 550 motor / 7 cells nimh battery / XL5.....still good and never burn out / never too hot.....i learned from the former neighbor had a brushless motor, lipo battery, esc are all tooo hot and can be burn in out or fire
Gutted for you mate just put video on my channel as my esc burst into flames luckily for me not to much damaged done but can you the work you put into that rig hope you got something else now to replace that beast
the more I see these videos, the more im convinced that the people trying to perform high speed runs haven't gone through the calculations necessary to determine if the motor and esc can survive. most people just jam a huge castle motor with a huge pinion and small spur gear with a ton of voltage and then wonder why stuff like this happens.
What started that fire was plain and simple, ripple current. It may have been from bad lipo cell(s) and/or from the ESC not having enough capacitors to weak capacitors. Had you shown some urgency you could have pulled the lipos off and at least saved the car. It's happened to me before and it's not as "deadly" as some make it seem but I'll admit a bit nerving. Look at it this way, at least you had a little girl and wife to go back home to:-). I've lost/destroyed my share of RC stuff and while it sucks you just learn it's part of the hobby. Heck, just last week my Tekin Pro4 motor disintegrated and that's $150 motor!!
Is happen to me about 5 years ago, in a HPI Savage XS flux, the ESC get fire, but a was close to disconnect the battery in time just damage the ESC and saving all entire truck,; the canopy a little melted in the rear part, just like nothing.
Guess speed run guys should start carrying fire extinguishers! Some may think it's dumb letting it burn, but a lipo exploding and burning your body is even worse than the money wasted from a burnt rc. He probably did the right thing by letting it burn.
I was just thinking the same thing as I watched this tragic video. I have several small portable fire extinguishers @ home. I may start bringing one w me to during my runs.
what was the cause of the fire? i was going to buy sidewinder 8th and try to attempt on breaking 100mph, but because of this vid, im having a second thought. was it the battery, motor, esc or over heating that cause the fire.
You need to have heat sinks on the battery and boards, anywhere that gets hot, when you run flat out like that for extended times. As the LiPos age, they create more and more heat as they discharge and recharge, you have to be able to dissipate that. Once it hits about 80-90C (just below boiling) the materials and adhesives holding things together begin to fail. If the LiPo gets a breach, it will react with the oxygen in the air and violently burn, some even explode, so you were smart for not getting near it. I would have thrown some dirt on it though to slow the flames while the battery discharged and the heat dissipated. If it was new, thats one of those pesky warranty calls, but im guessing this is an old favorite?
WOW...Sorry to see your unfortunate situation. I'm guess that was at least 140 Mph. Not sure if you gave it all up, but things do happen like that in the RC world. Maybe next time carry a fire extinguisher with you.
so you know, nowadays one can cut and edit videos at home too... i miss those days where 5MB Webspace was about 10 bucks, that saved a lot of wasted time...
So the esc failed and caught fire, he couldn't see that it was on fire from such a distance. He goes to retrieve the Rustler assuming it's just turned off or something less of a fire. After walking for a few seconds he hesitates. At that moment the fire started by the esc has spread to the lipo batteries. This is when the Rustler begins to give off a smoke signal via delayed lipo fire. Now he knows it is on fire. At this point there's not much he can do. He clearly didn't have an extinguisher on hand and if he did do something that could have put him and his kid in danger. If it caught fire on the street within ten feet of him he probably could do something about it but it still risky. You can put out an esc fire with you lungs but not even water can put out a lipo fire. If you tried using your lungs then the most you'd be doing is inhaling toxic fumes and possibly burning your face. So that, to the people who still look at this comment section three years later, is why this man didn't suddenly become a giant foot and smother the fire out with his big toe. I know I'm late but I read the comments and they sounded just as confused. Thanks for reading.
Hey man I was talking to Lil Jay here at the house about LiPO batteries burning and I said well I'll show you a video of my buddies car burning to the ground so I showed him this one and we got your package in bro we will do a video here in a little bit thank you very much brother Tuner 89 this was definitely crazy man
Damm, dude really stood there and watched his car burn.... And was pretty calm about it. I'd be tripping.
It could of blowed up in his face but I see your point
If my car would burn down, i would cry because of the high price it costs
I would do anything to save it
A tip is to have a bucket of sand standing by incase you get a LiPo fire. It helps put the fire out instead of letting your entire car burn down.
2:12 you can FINALLY see the car pass, if you want to skip a deserted road camera angle
thx
Nathan Johnson thx
Nathan Johnson
yes, your rc car will eventually catch fire when you have lots of nothing going on in your video
Nathan Johnson
guy:"omg my car is on fire!"
*stands bach and watches
Spag Face I don’t know any guys that say “OMG” unless they were gay
Mesgg Daahbf
Boys, is saying, “OMG” gay 🤔🤔😑
Mesgg Daahbf sexist
LIPO batteries can explode
You can’t put out a rc battery fire lol, not how it works, you gotta set there and watch it
It's a blessing !! She's not forgotten !! RCFL peace brother
I "liked" the video but I actually hate the video haha. This hurt my heart. Such a beautiful rustler!
Man thats rough! Very glad to see you have a new rig up and running.
Subscribed. Keep the vids coming.
Nice burnout man, literally
Why would he put it out? Without that fire this video wouldn't have almost 500,000 views soon to be a million. Now he has enough money to buy ten more of these
That is tru
I know the feeling.. Been there b4..
I would've ran up and kicked it into the grass or something! Save the rc!
Tahts stopid
Why not put the fire out or maybe instead of try to walk like a bad ass, you could of ran to your car and put it out!
+Jed Jeakings what if he had a bad leg and cant move fast... you never know
+RideRedRacer Maybe he had a carrot up his ass and couldn't run... you never know
ya you get it haha

I have heart burn boy go upload some more cartoons
It sucks when all you can do is stand there watching it burn and make certain it doesn't spread to the grass nearby!
as a traxxas rustler owner this hit the heart
Too funny! 👌 well done sir!
Way too much juice lol....
What did we all learn from this? Take a traxxas camping with you to start fires
Ryan Fink hahaha that's exactly what I got from it, u don't need no stinking lighter just a rustler!
talkin like u got insurance or somthing
questionur world 😂😂😂😂
I was thinking same shit hahahahaha uuummmm Geico you see what happened was...
Guess he doesnt care about his car that much, Just watched it burn
damn, that sucks. I feel bad for you. hope you get back on the road soon.
That sucks!!!!! I will never buy a lipo for this reason! man I hope u recover from this one! Keep rcing!
never a dull with moment with cheap electric RC's bursting into flames
Those GRP tyres are looking good though......even while the car s on fire
I like how he takes he sweet time
4:33 to see the fire.
That was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. I'm happy that you were able to bounce back so fast, though. Something like that would have scared a lot of guys out of the game.
Keep your head up, sir. We've all got your back!
you're joking?
Five minutes of bullshit. One minute of shaky car on fire. Awesome video.
The end of Rustler .......Amazing.
Damn the car looks pretty new too.
*Car starts to smolder* 5 minutes later (Just standing and watching) "Yep, guys we have a total loss here." (He only has like $1000 in the car, so you know, what the heck?)

Holla
Did you set the esc to lipo mode? Same happened to me few days ago... next time rush over and unplug the lipos from the ecs
Smart man. Brought me to tears watching it burn though. Alas, better lose a car then be disfigured or die.
This is also why I plan to never go above 2s lipo
*late reply oOps* but going up above 2s is fine as long as your responsible to handle it and have the right components.
Wow bruh.... Sorry that happened. That really sucks. I know you'll be back strong tho.
Man!!!! That car was "on fire". Not many people could say the same about their own.
Sorry to see your car on fire .fantastic speed.on a good note it was a great vid mate.
well this video was pretty useful coz now i know how to start a fire :)
I love my Traxxas Bandit car. There is a warning for lipo batteries that says that they can catch fire. Must have been defective cells in the battery. Also the esc have smoked and burned. I feel sorry for you loss and the expense too!
what type of rear bumper did you have on that?
serves you right, punishment for making us wait so long before getting any action
Hey I would like to know what front bumper that is and how you lowered it.
Did you ever run a data logger in any of your rigs to measure current draw? That would be interesting.
Oh shit bro I feel really bad I was screaming to the phone save it save it!!!!!! But you never did.!!!!
Well it’s probably got a Lipo on it so if it did explode he’d probably get hurt and that’s why he didn’t get close and save it
'
i have a good rustler with 550 motor / 7 cells nimh battery / XL5.....still good and never burn out / never too hot.....i learned from the former neighbor had a brushless motor, lipo battery, esc are all tooo hot and can be burn in out or fire
Wow reely but fire
Oh damn that sucks. Im sorry that that happened. ):
Holy fudge sorry
The Rustler has moved on to a better place now........
What sort of motor and esc and battery are u running
he should call the fire department
could i use the sidewinder 3 esc with the motor in the sidewinder 8th?
Thats a shocker mate!
Gutted for you mate just put video on my channel as my esc burst into flames luckily for me not to much damaged done but can you the work you put into that rig hope you got something else now to replace that beast
Rustle in fire. wow
the more I see these videos, the more im convinced that the people trying to perform high speed runs haven't gone through the calculations necessary to determine if the motor and esc can survive. most people just jam a huge castle motor with a huge pinion and small spur gear with a ton of voltage and then wonder why stuff like this happens.
My cousin had an rc10-gt I had an original Losi NXT with an OS .15 black top head and we never had a single fire and they were nitro.
Man that's why.... The sidewinder 8th
thats crazy dude, those grps look brand-new , fuck that, id put it out
Nice car

Man that was crazy! !
that looks like a $1000 car with the up grades
Ah that sucks,.. great video though. If i were you, i would at least save the receiver or any good remaining parts of the car
Atleast the tires were great until it got roasted to nothing 😓
My ass would be calling the fire department asap
I would bring a blanket withe next time to deprive the rustler of oxygen
Motor or battery must've blown up. Did the thing heat up easily?
did u save any of it?
If the front end is good then rebuild. Funest part of the hobby if u ask me
I think from what i can see it looked like a short in the system and that would make the wires bern and Esc
You should always carry a fire extinguisher
You should always carry a brain
Guess speed run guys should start carrying fire extinguishers! Some may think it's dumb letting it burn, but a lipo exploding and burning your body is even worse than the money wasted from a burnt rc. He probably did the right thing by letting it burn.
y x c.f. D
rmlerch your right
hell no, should have tried to put it out. runnin lipos at high's you should be prepared for such things
I was just thinking the same thing as I watched this tragic video. I have several small portable fire extinguishers @ home. I may start bringing one w me to during my runs.
They shoot flames they dont explode lol i destroy b old ones all the time called twat between ur legs bro
Anyone else have that kings of leon song pop into their head....HEEEeeyyy, your rustler's on FIRE!
What app do u use to test the speed
Hes just standing there watching it burn up no fire extinguishers
What kind of rims and tires are they
gotta love that parenting though! awesome.
There's nothing quite like some quality time with your daughter !
OMG Nice Car and video man!:)
Damn dude, sorry to see that happen.
Fire
noooo it was such a great tc cat and saw its last moments alive and free 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😤😤😧😧

vtech kicked in...
Your joke made my day thanks
Lol yes it did
VTECH AHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH U GENIUS
scirockalot8v you forgot "yo" and it's vtec!
you clearly didnt get the joke
You could reacted faster and save some parts from the fire. Like wheels and tires and maybe servo...
That's how you know that it's a real Traxxas and not a fake Traxxas
yeah I would have tried to save it
WOW...Sorry to see your unfortunate situation. I'm guess that was at least 140 Mph. Not sure if you gave it all up, but things do happen like that in the RC world. Maybe next time carry a fire extinguisher with you.
DAmn. I miss my Savage K5
Well don't just let it burn!
so you know, nowadays one can cut and edit videos at home too... i miss those days where 5MB Webspace was about 10 bucks, that saved a lot of wasted time...
The electric speed control burned.
what type of rustler is that, vxl, nitro?
did you use the proper cooling stuff? maybe next time you should switch to some kind of fluid cooling
Very Much Salvageable Before He Let It Burn Completely
So the esc failed and caught fire, he couldn't see that it was on fire from such a distance. He goes to retrieve the Rustler assuming it's just turned off or something less of a fire. 👍
Good job
WHAT GEAR DID YOU HAVE IN IT
Oh wow brother I'm sorry that happen bro
That's why I run nitro, instead of Electric.
I like how he's ignoring his child.
What motor do you have because I need a new motor for my rustler
